Two legends

This article was posted by Daze 35 minutes ago.

Tom Waits and Jim Jarmusch are two of my favorite artists. If you don’t know their stuff you need to check it out. My favorite Tom Waits records include: “Nighthawks at the diner,“Swordfish trombones”, and “Franks wild years”. Jim Jarmusch is an incredible director who i’ve had the pleasure of meeting several times in the past. He a veteran of the NYC downtown scene circa late 70’s early 80’s . My favorite films of his include: ” Stranger than paradise”,“down by law”, and “Coffee and Cigarettes”. Dudes are official!

Daze in Ecuador

This article was posted by Daze 1 week, 8 minutes ago.

Right now i’m in Quito , Ecuador for about a month . I was awarded a SMART power grant last year from the Bronx Museum and the Federal government. I was very fortunate to receive this grant amongst thousands of applicants. The objective is to provide mural workshops with kids from 4 different schools here in Quito . The experience so far has been pretty amazing . I’ll be here for about a month working on this project. Of course i’ll also have time to pursue other projects. Here are some examples of said projects:

Adam Yauch , MCA , R.I.Peace

This article was posted by Daze 1 week, 5 days, 2 hours, 49 minutes ago.

Like many others out there I was shocked and saddened to here about the passing of one of hip hop’s true legends , MCA of the Beastie Boys. Though I didn’t know him well MCA and I travelled in many of the same downtown circles and shared many of the same friends. The Beasties were a part of what I personally consider my favorite era in hip hop. The Beasties were a part of a circle that contained such legendary greats as Public Enemy , LL Cool Jay , Run DMC , EPMD , and many , may others. MCA was an integral part of that and will be greatly missed .
I remember seeing The Beastie Boys at Lollapalooza in 19994 out at Randall’s island . It was an amazing line up that included Beck , Cypress hill , The PFunk all stars , and many others . It had just gotten dark and people were really amped up to see them as one of the final acts of that day . Flavor Flav came out and amped up the crowd in one of the greatest intro’s i’ve ever seen . They came out and ripped into ” So watcha won’t ?” with an energy that tore apart the place. Flav stayed on stage for most of the set which was dope. I’ll never forget that .
Rest in Peace MCA , you’ll never be forgotten.

The Fleshbeck Crew from Rio

This article was posted by Daze 2 weeks, 4 days, 35 minutes ago.

This post is about my homies in Rio: The Fleshbeck Crew. In the early 00’s I came to Rio and began painting with them on the regular. They came recommended to me by my man in Sao Paulo , Binho, as guys I should hook up with in Rio. He told me that they were among the best there and he wasn’t lying. They are. They still are . Various members of the crew included : Br (or True as he later became), Toz,Lets,Pia ,Riot, and also SWK from the Santa Crew . What set them apart for me was that not only did they pull off some incredible productions all over the city but they were organized enough to set their sights on commercial projects. In Rio they’ve had many commercial clients too numerous to list . They also started a clothing line and maintained a store for a while . It was easy to see that their influences came not only from poplar culture but also from the easy going Rio lifestyle that incorporates the beach into everything . I just wanted to post a selection of some of thier work, particularly that of BR, for you to enjoy.

Daze in Rio de Janeiro

This article was posted by Daze 3 weeks, 1 Day, 12 hours, 10 minutes ago.

I’ve painted a lot of places all over the world but Rio still remains one of my favorites . It’s an incredible city with a lot of good energy . The graff scene there is really cool , very positive and productive. I haven’t been there in a while but I thought I’d post these photo’s of a few of the many pieces I did there. Peace to my Homies ,The Fleshbeck crew ! They’ll soon be in NY !

I painted this on Avenida Presidente Vargas in Rio . It's a main street with a lot of traffic . I painted this with Mr. Beam in 2009

This was done in Lagoa , a suburb in Rio that is very nice . It was done with my homies the Fleshbeck crew.

I did this as a kind of demonstration for kids as a part of the Hutuz festival there in 2009 . I like how the face of the fish forms the "D"

Andrew Freeman home/ This side of paradise

This article was posted by Daze 1 Month, 1 week, 1 Day, 14 hours, 40 minutes ago.

I really enjoyed working on my installation at the Andrew Freeman home in the Bronx. It was a great experience that was artistically challenging in that i’m not asked very often to create an installation. I hope I get to do more projects like this in the future. If you get a chance check it out .
