OKUDA IN SOUTH AFRICA

Last week, Okuda found himself in South Africa, invited by the Spanish embassy for the cultural program, Mzansicultura. He spent a few days visiting the capital, Capetown, with his friend Faith47, and left some samples of his art in SideStudios (Woodstock).

Afterwards, he headed to Johannesburg to participate in the second edition of ‘ City of Gold’, a few days dedicated to international urban art, during which other international artists, such as Atom, Tasso, Case (Germany), Lazoo (France), Solo One (UK), and Dal East (China) also participated, along with other representatives from the South African scene.

The festival kicked off with a collective exposition in Afronova Gallery, and the following days (up to last wednesday) were dedicated to the murals being done on the street. We’ll leave you with some of the exhibits and mural pieces by Okuda, with photos courtesy of Derek Smith.

The collection is titled ‘Lost in the Infinite’, and the artist, who is from Santander but now lives in Madrid, offers us this description, “My work has for quite some time dealt with the same subjects; existentialism, conflict between nature and capitalism, self-destruction, and false freedom.”

“Can you count? Can you imagine the amount of empty cans that there are in the world?” The majority, unfortunately, end up being thrown on the ground of halls of game, yards, tunnels, etc…

The people from CanLove, via their new project, CANLOVE: 1500 Project, propose doing something with those dirty, rusted spray cans: collecting, manipulating, and cutting them, and using the parts to construct something new.

From Montana Colors, true to our slogan, Keep the Planet Clean, we are participating by offering 1,500 unsellable white 94 cans, which the people at CanLove have used to make a huge canvas for painting upon.

MONTANA T.N.T. OUR FIRST DONATION HAS BEEN MADE!

After three months of fund raising for the TNT solo project, we have made our first donation * (more details at the bottom of the page) to a neighboring organization.

Montana Colors is situated at the base of Montserrat, a precious mountain near Bages, 40km north of Barcelona.

There is a small recuperation shelter near by us for abandoned animals called Seproan. They are a group of volunteers that sacrifice their free time and much of there economic resources in order to provide care. They try to return confidence to the animals whose owners treated them like broken toys.

A lot of people ask how NGO’s can be in favor of helping animals while at the same time there are children who are in need. We could ask them another question: “What do you do for those kids.?”

The truth is that it is sure that whoever helps animals has more than enough sensitivity in their hearts to help their neighbors.

* Between December 20th, 2011 and March, 2012, the total value of TNT sales amounted to 28.571 €. The donation is 7% of this amount (2000 €). Next donation date: July 20th, 2012.

Through the years, he has manage to constantly transform his style never stagnating into one thing, but simply letting it grow. Every lign has it’s reason.

To this day, Stare keeps going, continuing the love of pushing himself to give more to this art.

Fem Graff 2012: The photos

Last Saturday, March 11th, we verified that graffiti done by feminine hands is all in good health.

Fem Graff was organized again over at the Three Chimneys Park in Barcelona. This year the event brought together ten national writers and street artists: Turquesa Rabodiga (Zaragoza), Yubia (Bilbao), Eme de Mati (Murcia), Laia, Menor, Fatima (Mallorca), the duo NM, Flexi, Lahe (Seville) and Musa were all commissioned to paint both sides of two out of the three murals in the plaza.

What were your first steps into graffiti?

We started getting into graffiti around 2005 by seeing some pieces and tags around the neighborhood and seeing photos of pieces that our cousin’s friends painted in Rijeka, Croatia. It was during that period that we painted our first wall in front of our house, but we didn’t really get into it till 2006/2007.

Which crew are you in? What does it mean to you?

We’re in Heavy Artillery. The crew means a lot to us because it is something that we hold in very high regards, and also, in in a way, being in a crew with so many talented writers helped us to elevate our game by constantly pushing us to reinvent ourselves.

There’s also 2013 which is not exactly a crew, it’s more of a cause but is still something we stand behind. And it’s good to have something that connects us back to Belgrade.

So we decided to do a compilation of these moments in which ‘his lordships’ – Lula da Silva, Lars Løkke Rasmussen, Paavo Arhinmäki, Alberto Ruiz Gallardón (currently spanish Minister of Justice) and Queen Sofia of Spain - have some fun and pose for the cameras, despite the unusual situations. There are some things wich will never fail to surprise. It’s best to just keep on playing.

The art market is like a fortress inhabited by artists; the only valid interpreters of society’s experiences and the emotions; and their works. It’s a fortress which expands by means of art galleries, fairs, and museums, and it is watched by critics and commissioners, the security agents of the system. But we mustn’t forget that the origin of art is in emotions, and the experiences of human beings; the people, the history, their stories. Without them, art does not exist.

With the offering of Trojan TV Wall SUSO33, a Trojan Horse is introduced into the art fortress, claiming its fountains, its plurality, and its humanity. It reminds us of the reality of the human experience and its value as the base of art, and the fact that it is art in itself. Only life is real. Only life is art.

With Trojan TV Wall, a direct entry canal into the art fortress is created for the experiences and emotions of society, making them into art without the artist, who solely structures the support which allows the automatic transformation.

Trojan TV Wall will be made up of a 10 meter long wall with changeable content screens. Each photo or text which is sent VIA EMAIL - trojantvwall(at)gmail.com - will be exhibited on one of the Trojan TV Wall screens, in a random order, without previous selection. Anyone can upload a photo or short sentence which condenses their emotions, experiences, beliefs… anything which is important for him or her, in any language.

Trojan TV Wall will also have a communication system which will allow visitors to upload in real time, during the fair, their own contribution, whether it be a sentence or a photo, from their own mobile device. A twitter account will be created over the next few days for the same purpose. To the exhibition of the contributions which will be uploaded onto the website, SUSO33 will add his own pieces, integrating them and creating an added element, with the goal of strengthening the reflection on art and the market.
