After eight years in the making and journeys taking him across the globe, Nils Müller just published his second photo book ‘Vandals’. Following his 2009 publication ‘Blütezeit’, ‘Vandals’, takes the illegal and dangerous activity of graffiti on trains on 192 pages to a more personal level, one that is more detailed and yet, more abstract, too. The photos bear witness to the elaborate level of planning required to carry out the acts. They reveal team spirit as well as heightened emotions and tension, as trainwriters attempt to evade motion detectors and security cameras while scaling barbed wire fences.
Coinciding with the publication of Vandals is an eponymous exhibition showcasing a selection of photographs from the book. Presented in large-sized formats, they bring you closer and deeper into the underbelly of railway graffiti. It’s almost like we are on site ourselves.
Nils Müller is a former graffiti artist who taught himself photography to immortalize his work before it was cleaned up by authorities. It wasn’t long before he realized he wanted to show more than just the defacement of public structures. His photographs elevate graffiti into a sophisticated visual language that thrills both because of its illicit nature and aesthetic value.

That post felt thru the cracks, so I’m a little late on it but I’m very please to introduce you to my Sound Advice on The Worlds Best Ever. The idea of Sound Advice, if you don’t know it, is to broadcast a mix done by creative people that are not necessarily dj’s. I think it is a very intimate way to discover someone’s taste in what surrounds them on a daily basis: music. Since you’re getting the best taste in a musical genre that might not be yours all the time, you’re sure to get bangers and discover great music.
To top it all off the selection of artist is off the hook and I’m stoked to be sitting next: Scott Campbell, Ian Francis, Jerry Hsu, fellow blogger and friend Handselecta, good friend Alessandro Simonetti or the likes of Ed Templeton just to name a few… seriously the list could go on for hours since they have over 170 mixes available for download !

World renowned Pop Surrealist and Street Artist Ron English will exhibit his first new series of photographs in 25 years. With a master’s degree in fine art photography, Ron began his career in the early 1980s as part of the Fabricated to be Photographed movement that included Cindy Sherman, Sandy Skoglund and Nic Nicosia. Many of his most famous billboard takeovers, environmental interventions and trompe l’oeil art on the street, pieces that established him as a pioneer of the global street art phenomenon were actually byproducts of his staged photography in urban environments.
In 1986 Ron traded his camera for a canvas and became one of the founders of the pop surrealist movement and has been known ever since as an oil painter and street artist.
Although never exhibited publicly as standalone pieces, Ron’s photography has always remained an integral part of his artistic process. Ron creates elaborate sets that he photographs as the bases for his paintings, and for the first time he will exhibit these studies as limited edition photographs.
Show runs through July 28th, 2013.
