In case you missed it, the American Folk Art Museum recently presented a brilliant exhibition of 650 red and white quilts at the Park Avenue Armory. Spanning over three centuries, this display was graphically overwhelmingly and worth seeking out. If you’re interested there’s a flickr pool where you can see a bunch of peoples’ blurry photos or you can wait to get the catalog.

I went to Cairo last year to meet with the good people of the Articulate Baboon gallery. I had planned to do an installation there this year, and hope it can still happen. I haven’t heard from them since Egypt turned off the internet and can only hope everyone’s safe and they can reestablish some communication soon.
For the past three days I’ve been glued to Al Jazeera live feed. It’s amazing seeing this footage of people in the streets and inspiring to think that after 40 years of autocratic rule, a leaderless populous can stand up to power and demand change. I definitely don’t pretend to know whether this will lead to a better government or destabilization of the middle east - I don’t think anyone knows this. The only thing that seems clear to me is that even if you turn off twitter, the world is still paying attention.

Be safe Adam + Omar. Keep your head down. Salaam ! Go Zamalek !
A revolution in a quiet room
Vallery, Barcelona
Nov. 4 - Jan 6

The work of a scientist is based on the conviction that nature is basically orderly. Evidence to support this faith can be seen with the naked eye - in the design of a honeycomb or a mollusk’s shell - but scientists seek and discover patterns at every level of being.
- The Scientist, Henry Margenau

This series of prints and wallpapers is an interpretation of the LIFE Science Library - 25 books that were published between 1964 and 1967 on topics such as ‘Energy’ ,‘Matter’, and ‘The Mind’. The work is a recognition of the art of knowledge as well as the poetry of things we do not and can not know. It’s also a tribute to my parents who are biologists and my grandfather - an engineer who left me the books.

Both in their art and their attendant values these artists work tirelessly to sustain cultural entities. They blanket space with meaning and convert square footage into bold proclamations. The music world reaps the rewards of Sonnenzimmer’s subtle, painterly gig posters while the apparel industry appropriate’s Mike Perry’s electric zine hallucinations into backpacks and Nike dunks. Both Dan Funderburgh and Seripop explore the limits of spatial adornment, Dan through the design of delicately intricate wallpaper that balances Moorish mosaic with American op art, and Seripop via enormous street poster collages, a medium they have evolved from their monstrous rock posters and describe as “the ‘skin’ of a city, growing and shedding organically.”

From the Factoria de Santos website...
“San Honesto is the patron saint against corruption, bribes and defender of truthfulness. Mission: To make a positive change in the world we have to start with ourselves. San Honesto’s mirror face reflects the image of the person praying to him. Citizens of the world can give San Honesto as a gift to corrupt individuals to awaken a change in consciousness and improve their behavior. If you believe people make miracles happen, start praying to San Honesto for a more honest planet. “

The Facoria de Santos is based in Mexico City, but has been manufacturing new saints for a world that could use a few more. And if looking into the mirror face doesn’t provide quite enough truth, a bottle of the San Honesto fair trade Mezcal should probably do the trick.

Eyelevel BQE is hosting a San Honesto group show starting December 11 Featuring works by myself, Vena2, Ciler, Bang Buro, Dr. Morbito, Monica Ruzansky, Gabriela Alva Cal y Mayor and Luisa Gloria Mota-Velasco.
“AMATEUR HOUR is not necessarily a theme for the work in this show. We hope the title is fitting for the times we live in where barriers between what is considered “amateur” and “professional” creative work in photography, video and other mediums continue to be broken down. People are making great music in their bedrooms, recording news on cell phones, etc. For our first show together we want to celebrate this phenomenon with works in a variety of mediums including: video, video stills, photography, sculpture, found objects, and collage. Hope to see you! P+A Suthz.”

“Topsafe is an online gallery that showcases high-quality, limited-edition artwork from some of Europe’s leading talents. A collective brought together by a shared passion for expression and individuality, many of the Topsafe artists honed their talents through graffiti writing. Here they present a development of the art they produce in the train yards and on city streets, while retaining the energy and free thinking that is the hallmark of their outlaw practice.”
