Stay High 149 memorial

This article was posted by Daze 11 months, 4 days, 38 minutes ago.

I recently did a new piece with Dmote and Vizie that I dedicated to the memory of Stay High 149. I didn’t know him very well but like many others the sheer virtuosity of his tag impacted my development as a writer. When people speak of “legends” Stay high was the very definition of the word. His tags were something that you saw either on the street or more importantly on the trains and you wondered who did that? You wanted to meet that cat and find find out what was behind the “voice of the ghetto”. I remember going out to Iz the Wiz’s house in Rockaway and seeing one of Stay High’s tags all the way out there. It really blew my mind. He was a real legend that held his title and crown with style ,poise, and more importantly ,humility. He didn’t need to boast about all his accomplishments because you all ready knew all of that . Stay High 149 will sadly be missed but never forgotten.

Daze in Ecuador part 4

This article was posted by Daze 11 months, 3 weeks, 3 days, 20 hours, 40 minutes ago.

So i’m about wrapping up my time here in Quito . I found the city here to be pretty amazing an i’m glad to say that working with the schools here was a great experience. I’d say the climate for graff/street art is a bit mixed. I’d say the majority really love seeing murals done and pieces of all kinds. On the other hand there are those who are misinformed about the culture and don’t really get it. Most of those people are politicians and those that hang on their every word. They don’t understand it and because they don’t understand it they hate it.
Nevertheless I had a great time here and this won’t be my last visit . I have plans to do more here.

Working on the mural project with the kids.

SMART power program, Quito , Ecuador

This article was posted by Daze 1 Year, 1 Day, 7 hours, 29 minutes ago.

I’ve been here in Quito , Ecuador for the past month working on a series of murals with kids ages 11 to 17 from 2 of the local schools. The murals all contain the running theme of biodiversity and celebration of Ecuador’s rich natural resources. The project has been a big success so far in that most of the children want to continue painting even after the mural is finished . I also feel as if i’ve inspired a lot of the kids in showing them that they can pursue art if they want to. I’m really amazed by the energy and enthusiasm these kids have. Even when i’m worried that they won’t finish up they always come through.Right now i’m on my last mural with them. Photo’s to come later.

Two legends

This article was posted by Daze 1 Year, 1 week, 1 Day, 1 hour, 28 minutes ago.

Tom Waits and Jim Jarmusch are two of my favorite artists. If you don’t know their stuff you need to check it out. My favorite Tom Waits records include: “Nighthawks at the diner,“Swordfish trombones”, and “Franks wild years”. Jim Jarmusch is an incredible director who i’ve had the pleasure of meeting several times in the past. He a veteran of the NYC downtown scene circa late 70’s early 80’s . My favorite films of his include: ” Stranger than paradise”,“down by law”, and “Coffee and Cigarettes”. Dudes are official!
