Like many others out there I was shocked and saddened to here about the passing of one of hip hop’s true legends , MCA of the Beastie Boys. Though I didn’t know him well MCA and I travelled in many of the same downtown circles and shared many of the same friends. The Beasties were a part of what I personally consider my favorite era in hip hop. The Beasties were a part of a circle that contained such legendary greats as Public Enemy , LL Cool Jay , Run DMC , EPMD , and many , may others. MCA was an integral part of that and will be greatly missed .
I remember seeing The Beastie Boys at Lollapalooza in 19994 out at Randall’s island . It was an amazing line up that included Beck , Cypress hill , The PFunk all stars , and many others . It had just gotten dark and people were really amped up to see them as one of the final acts of that day . Flavor Flav came out and amped up the crowd in one of the greatest intro’s i’ve ever seen . They came out and ripped into ” So watcha won’t ?” with an energy that tore apart the place. Flav stayed on stage for most of the set which was dope. I’ll never forget that .
Rest in Peace MCA , you’ll never be forgotten.
