I actually came across a few other Boris pages...I'll try and find them.
I never read any of the Cable books except maybe issue 1. I was in love with New Mutants back in the day, but I just got sick of Liefeld and anything to do with him after a while.
jbrshmonster, no prob, dude. I have been involved with similar threads on other (comic related) message boards, so it's not hard for me to find these pictures. Don't let my giant posts get in the way of posting your own suggestions.

Everyone should read the maleev/bendis daredevils, they read very different from other books. Really fast paced, i heard he used to draw screenplay story boards, but I dont know if thats true.

I've been slowly catching up on DD. I have the first six trades, and am gonna get the next couple when I get paid next. I don't normally like Bendis' sloooooow moving dialogue ("Hey", "Hi", "So, uhhh...", "Yes?" etc, etc), but I'm loving this.
Bendis and Maleev will be done soon, and Brubaker and Lark will be replacing them. That is a great choice by Quesada and Marvel!!

^ Wovie's tits here remind me of that godawful Liefeld drawing of Captain America that is famous for those big tits.
****QUESTION:
What do you guys think of swiping? They say that Greg Land and Rob Liefeld "swipe" enough. Land with photos, and Liefeld with other artist's comic work.... if that is the case (people far more knowledgable than me seem to think so), do you think that one is more justified than the other??

oh yeah, FunTimePartyTeam...I wouldn't doubt that Bendis is involved in the movie industry. I know he started as an indie writer (Goldfish), but I could see him writing screenplays.
That's what they're all doing these days. Look at J Michael Straczynski (Babylon 5) and his huge run on Amazing Spider-Man, or Joss Whedon's (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) highly acclaimed Astonishing X-Men books, Kevin Smith (Clerks) with his ridiculously late assignments, Frank Miller...and there are more, I believe. Maybe Geoff Johns? Comic writers are getting mad respect these days...at least the job title is.
I saw a trailer before 40 Year Old Virgin for a movie called Serenity, and they really highlighted the fact that Joss Whedon wrote the screenplay. Wait, I think I mentioned that somewhere on here already. Anyway, I know he's well known for Buffy, but man, people buy stuff by Bendis or Whedon just because their name is on the title.

WOW that's a lot of artists!
The ones i dug the most were:
Alfredo Acala-
Travis Charest--
Neal Adams--
Jeph Loe--
and
Greg Ruth.
Not that most were really good, these I think are top notch though.
Great idea for a thread.

the reason that guy Whedon's name is highly associated with that dumb looking movie "serenity" is because it is actually the reincarnation of some show he did on Fox that got cancelled after like 10 episodes... anyways the fans were so into it they petitioned the studio and him for like 5 yrs until they revamped it and made it into a movie..
if you pick up the new wired theres an article on it.. thats the only reason i know.

oh yeah, I was a big fan of Valiant back in the day. I collected most of their titles, but Bloodshot and Ninjak were probably the best ones.
I have a hook up over the net to get all copies of Ninjak (I lost all Valiant comics I ever owned), but I'd probably get it cheaper if I just searched the backbins of my city.

I believe that is him on the Quasar cover.
I think that Capullo's old stuff (like X-Force) is a lot better than when he went all McFarlane on us. But I gotta say, the level of detail he put into his Spawn work was awesome.
Last I heard, he wasn't working...here's hoping that he gets put onto Hulk or something else Marvel.

Oh yeah, FunTime, I've had other people tell me to check out X-Statix lately.
And I recently read Milligan at the back of an Amazing Spider-Man trade. It was about Rhino going through surgery to become a genius. It was pretty well written, and I wanna check out more of his stuff.

I have to say that as i grew up, and found myself being broke at times, xstatix was one of the few comics i continued to buy. I cut down on my xmen consumption, and my daredevil, (even though i love it), but x-statix i had to keep reading. Some issues twards the end got to be a bit much but it was a good run overall, especially if you like ironic humor. I know they released a graphic novel of the whole series, and if you decide to read it you should start with the x-force issues (which also have a seprate graphic novel), so you have a point of reference. yea...

am i the only one who thinks comics that are obviously colored in photoshop look like shit? they look all fake and plastic.
im hardly much of a comic fan, so maybe you guys are all about it or something, but IMO it totally cheapens the art and makes it look corny. as i was looking through james jean's site earlier, i kept being amazed by his sketchbooks and preliminary drawings, then totally let down by the final products. shit just looses so much of it's feel to me.

computer colored or computer drawn work is an aesthetic.. and the quality and style vary significantly.. i think some of it can be horrid but some also you have to just either accept the overall craftsmanship and ability to convey mood and feeling correctly.. i think some comic books are starting to spend too much time on the finished product and not enough on the original artwork. but there are those who are exceptional and those who arent.. ive always been a fan or sketches and pencil drawings before the inking or coloring process.

So, I havnt bought comics in a long time. It all had to do with graduating college and being broke. Then moving out and having priorites and not enough space, etc... Well the point of the story is, I was walking by a comic shop on Sunday, and I couldnt help myself. I went in and I spent around 65 bucks on comics. I got all those Daredevil: Father issues, the Deadgirl comic, the alex ross Justice comics, and among others I came accross the Frank Miller / Jim Lee book Batman and Robin the Boy Wonder.

Now Jim Lee is cool, and FM is a good writer, but I would be sucked in just for the covers by Frank.
http://comicsmedia.ign.com/comics/image/article/648/648066/all-star-batman-robin-20050906035628614-000.jpg
Anyway. Its dope. That quesada book is pretty good too.
WepX, whats your favorite comic all around for the read and art etc...? (tough question?)
PS. After reading sabe's response, I wanted to make a point that this batman comic as well as in the daredevil father series, there is much more profanity that Ive noticed before. Im not hating, Im just saying I noticed.
Edit again - Yes Jim Lee, my bad.

You mean Jim Lee. All-Star Batman and Robin the Boy Wonder, right? I hear very mixed reviews about it.
LOL, but it's funny, cuz the same thing happened to me. I hadn't bought comics in a very long, long time, then one day decided to spend $200. I spent another couple of hundred over the next couple of weeks until I started to pace myself.
Right now, I'm back to being broke, so I buy trades of stuff that I always wanted as a kid, or had as a kid but lost, and Daredevil and Spider-Man books. I'm still catching up really slowly.
I still have to buy 300 by FM, as well as Red Star, and From Hell by Alan Moore. Those are my "must buys" for this spring.
I only buy single issues when I'm giving something a sampling. I know, it's a rotten way to show support to a smaller circulated title if I'm waiting for the trade, but I'm not ready to be addicted to buying monthlies again. Besides, I hold comics in such high regard that I enjoy placing my Sale/Loeb trade paperback next to my Tolstoy on the bookshelf.
These are cool:
http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e86/b0bb33z3r/MLMW_Masterworks_SpiderManVSGreenGo.jpg
http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e86/b0bb33z3r/MLMW_Masterworks_FantasticFourBoxSe.jpg
Oh yeah, some other things I've been checking out (meaning reading in the store lol) are the Vertigo books, like Y the Last Man and 100 Bullets. Shit, I should get fermentor666 up in here. He seems the type that likes to try new books.
*Oh yeah, so if I were to start picking up monthlies, I would definitely include Friendly Neighbourhood Spider-Man, as well as X-Factor (which just came out). Peter David is one of my favourite writers. You might remember him from X-Factor and Hulk from back in the day.
I'm also a fan of Daredevil because the art is always on point, as well as the writing. But the thing with Bendis is that his writing is so decompressed that I just have to buy the trade or I'd be slapping myself for "wasting" my money on a book that takes 3 minutes to read.
Brubaker will be on it soon, though.

Hmm good response. I came to the conclusion that 100 Bullets is my favorite comic. I hadnt bought it for about a year and a half, and its the only one I felt nessicary to fill in all the missing issues. I ended up buying numbers 57-68 and reading all in one night. I love the art and I love detective novels, especially ones where its not obvious whats going on. I thought that the Batman that they did wasnt as good as the 100 bullets, but was still plenty dope.

Yeah, Im not that into it. Im all for the original suit, with or without webs in the armpits, as well as the black suit. Beyond that its too weird. That one also looks alittle too much like SM 2099 suit, which is lame-o. And one more thing (cause im grumpy) why does it have to be Iron Man colors just cause its Stark industries. I mean we all know that Tony Stark is ego-centric kinda guy, but come on. On another note about costumes, I like in Daredevil: Gaurdian Devil how they mention that Reed Richards made DD's new suit with a micro-metal-fiber. Sweet.
Edit: Ok, I ate some food so Im no longer grumpy. But I still cant say that Im a fan. I do kinda like how that last drawing looks like it was done in MSPaint though.

Incidentally, I hear that Neal Adams is taking over for Jim Lee in the All-Star Batman series.
And I was reading up on that series, and it seems that 95% of the internet doesn't like it because of Frank Miller's writing. They're saying that he isn't in DD/Dark Knight Returns mode, but in Dark Knight Strikes Again mode.
But anyway, I love Neal Adams' drawings. I made a thread about him in Untitled before. It's around somewhere.

Captain America Coming to Film
In a recent interview, Avi Arad has dropped some cryptic clues about the future of a Captain America film. The movie will focus on the changes that have taken place over the last 60 years, questioning which world was better, the past or today. There are currently no directors or stars attached, though he does have some in mind for the possible 2009 release. Arad said very little about the costume, but promised it will keep at least one familiar aspect:
"The shield is a symbol. There will always be a shield. Now, I'll leave it to your imagination to figure out what one can do with a shield."

Feb. 14, 2006 — Beware, terrorists! The Caped Crusader is targeting a villain more sinister than the Joker — Osama bin Laden.
At the WonderCon 2006 comic-book convention in San Francisco last weekend, legendary comics writer and artist Frank Miller revealed that Batman would hunt down bin Laden and al Qaeda in his next DC Comics graphic novel.
In "Holy Terror, Batman!" the Caped Crusader goes after the terror leader and his organization after Gotham City is attacked by terrorists. Though the graphic novel's title is a take on Robin the Boy Wonder's catchphrase, Miller said there was nothing campy about the story.
Miller's reinvention of Batman in the 1987 graphic novel "Batman: The Dark Knight Returns" is credited with reviving interest in the superhero and helping launch the series of Batman movies in the 1990s and 2005's "Batman Begins." He said his anger over both the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks and subsequent acts of terror worldwide had inspired his latest work.
"Emotionally, it's really raw," Miller told the WonderCon audience. "Imagine the powerful rage when someone crosses the passion between a man and a woman or a man and his city."

I'm surprised that Bode's comics haven't been posted in here...
I'd post a few, but I deleted those images of a comic that had some graffiti involved with Cheech Wizard.
If anyone finds them or has some saved then post them here!

the wonderman quits cover... isnt that in reference to the spiderman quits or captain america quits deal? you know when captain america became.. 'the man with no country' and he dressed kinda like rambo. and some douche took his place because he no longer believed in america..

Yo, you did that? That's really good!
I'm no artist, so I guess that makes me a good judge. 'Cuz, yo, the movement in that is very easy to follow. There's not enough comics that let you follow what's going on in action scenes.
Is the whole book like that? 'Cuz, shit, the writing would have to be very decompressed, huh?

Yea man, I work with writter Jay Beane on this. So all the art is mine. The whole comic isn't all like this but I break it down like this a lot. Because I just like to smooth it out. Glad you think it flows well.

I did some googling and found a very positive review by one Derek Martinez on his blog. The premise sounds really interesting, and I'd love to get a copy.
I really should pick up an indie comic like this so I don't feel like I'm in arrested development with all these superhero books ;) . Can I find this in my city (Toronto)? I really wanna check this out!
I like that character he posted from page 13. Props, dude.

Actually we are redoing this book entirely. The review you saw is from a different artist. Right now this isn't out yet, but I'm trying to get my ass in gear so I can turn out more pages per month. You can see about getting a copy of the old artists work, but I would wait for my version. Not trying to toot my own horn but I think it works better to have the characters robotic, but so sutble that you have to pay close attention to notice they are robots.
