I just found out that my brothers body was cremated yesterday. The plans are to bring his remains back to Miami. I don’t know where his remains will be laid to rest but I will keep everyone posted. Thanks for all your support. I know my brother is up there somewhere spraying ‘oil’ on every cloud he can find.

that was a crazy night 3 deep in the 2 seater (no homo) in jax running from the cops, and we lived to talk about.

First time I wore the name DZ first time I represented STV. Running on 4 vop warrants with a fugitive red flag attached to my name, i jumped in the 2 seater with Bernie on the center console, his face pressed up against the ceiling of the car he was sitting on my arm. The door closed on my finger tips and I couldnt get it open because he was sitting on my arm, and it hurt so much i couldnt even tell you guys to open it for me, I was just wiggling in pain making grunting noises and Bernie looked over and let out the loudest HAAAAAAAA before opening the door for me to release my fingers. Im there thinking smooth move exlax first time ever painting with OIL and GS and not only is everyone laughing at me, i dont know if i can even press on the cap to write my name. We roamed the crack neighborhoods evading the zombies and ran for our lives from dt's. Seems like its been one thing after the other since that weekend with no down time in between 5 or 6 years later and I'm still waiting for life to calm down. G i hope to see you soon lifes to short...

Please allow me to start by thanking everyone for these kind words from the Perez family. Although I never agreed and even attempted to steer BB away from his love affair with the graffiti life style, I see his work and efforts have not gone unnoticed. Reading all these touching BB stories describing his true character and natural talent helps us coup with this tragedy a bit easier. All of you knew BB for who he really was.

Not everyone can be great at what they love but he clearly accomplished nothing short of that. His infectious laugher and genuine personality will be missed by many. My only regret not being able to wrap my arms around that skinny little frame one last time. Again I really can’t thank you all enough for being his family when we couldn’t, especially Allen for creating this outlet of expression in his memory. You have no idea how much it means to me and our family. Most of all BB appreciates it and is loves every bit of it from up above.

haven't stop thinking about you. i remember the first time we ever painted, crawling through woods and wet grass to get to a highway spot then straight on to the next till i could see the sun peaking over the ocean . once you started you never wanted to stop till the sun came up mane. we run outta paint we get more. nothing was ever enough and thats what made you different when most people would stop and one or two a night you didn't want to quit. you had weird little things about you that at the time might of annoyed me but i know i will forever miss those little weird things. and downtown you watching so i could hook up this roll door and little did i know we were bombing so long it was time for the guy to open his shop.....chasing us down streets and hallways for what seemed like forever and saying fuck it and stepping to him and watching the dude turn around like he wasn't even chasing us. you had a heart like a lion and to say i was envious of your talent skill and kindness would be and understatement. i know ur looking down laughing at my white ass for crying so much for you mane, i just don't know what to do when the phone isn't ringing anymore and you aren't on the other end.

I spoke to Bernie about posting pictures, and he wondered why i took them off my myspace one time, he was kind of offended, i told him i thought he didn't want his face up there, and he said no. I think a face should go with a name. right now he's so happy i guarantee he doesn't care. Him and Sace are partying it up, and i doubt that would even faze him.

I never met the late Oil personally, but like many others on here I basically feel like I somewhat know a good bit about the man. From the other writers of my generation and their "stories" that were passed on, to the old schoolers who have mentioned him, and me growing up seeing his tags and fills all over Kendall and such, I always figured he was something else. For some reason, no matter what had been said of him, before reaching a conclusion the speaker always had something good to say about Oil at the end, and this I sincerely mean it. Coming from Miami and temporarily relocating up North, I have met many talented writers from in between and when mentioning my roots he was one of the main 5 guys who was always mentioned, ironically. I always admired the letters of course, and strongly assumed he had heart, but after reading through all these pages I realize there was way more to this person besides all that and a good heart after all. All this to say that after all it is a big loss to us all, some more than others, but believe me we all felt it for he was like our 2pac or Eddie Griffin because graffiti is a passion and a sport for a lot of us. I hope his family and friends overcome all their sorrow, and I do not doubt his eternity in the Miami Graffiti history and more. We (the crew and I) offer you all our most sincere condolences, and assure you that is a lost for all of us as well.

Bernie's true friends know that he would not want his face posted anywhere - no matter what. He was, and has always been, extremely private about publishing photos of himself on the internet. He never wanted people who didn't know him to know what he looked like. He valued the mystery and glamor that comes with not being able to put a face to a name.

Please don't allow my friends image to become mainstream.

People who are his friends have pictures of him and are sharing amongst ourselves - there is no need to put pictures of his face on a graffiti website.

This is a ridiculous statement. Bernie helped build this site and obviously this thread is for Bernie by freinds of Bernie. There is no mystery to be had, and knowing him better than most, I seriously doubt he'd have taken issue with it.

If there was ever a time to celebrate the true Bernie, it's most certainly now.

this dude is ill. i spent almost two months in south florida in feb and march 1998. driving from ft lauderdale to south beachfor the first time, i knew right away who the king of miami was. oil took three typically boring letters and made this slick, classic style that is unforgettable. the one that stands out the most in my memory was a vw bug billboard with june. it was on the left headed out to south beach. its permanently embedded in my memory, but i've never seen a picture. peace to his friends and fam.

i remember this one! this was actually an unfinished oil that nero and i walked up on in georgia..the o and half the i were filled in and it must of rolled out on him. nero and i finished the fill and i busted the outline.. i felt honored to being able to do an oil on a train. i kinda felt like i was walking in shoes fit for a king but just a couple sizes too big for me. i remember telling him the next day i finished it for him and he was crackin on me askin if i put any of my fruity color schemes in it for him.. i was like naaa just that oiler homedepot special rusto black and white all day. we clowned and hoped it would pop up one day on the lines since i never got a flick of it.its kind of a bittersweet memory.

i met bernie when i was a lil kid. my cousin jessie and him went to high school together and use to hang occasionally way b4 i started painting. he never knew id grow up and start this shit nor be very influenced by his work. i knew him as bernie, not oil, and he knew me by my real name as well. rest in peace to thee real miami legend.

Met Oil back in 99 while I was attempting to do my first piece. He came out with Deed. I was dumbfounded when they said their names. I was honored to be kicking it with Miami's top dawg writers. I remember him teaching me how to fade colors. The second time i ran across Oil was at the Marina penit. I heard all the rumors about him, but he remembered me and we kicked it again. A week before his passing I remember looking at his pictures online thinking how fresh he is. Then i found out this horrible news. I never really knew him personally, but it hurts me a lot to know he's gone. Oil you will never be forgotten !!!

I thought I would share my thoughts because I've known about Oil for over 15 years.
My regards go out to his family, friends, crew and everyone on here giving him love.

I remember all the stories coming up about how oil would jack your paint and ruff you up if he caught you painting. So inevitably, he comes up to me while im painting some wack shit @ agripost, and im like oh shit. But dude was cool as hell even gave me some pointers and encouragement, told me to stick with it. And he didnt take my paint. A few years later, I ran into him again at a pro am where he recognized me, and gave me a bag of caps. I wish I had the opportunity to spend more time with him. His work and being is inspiring and will always be. This is the latest train I caught, and I know I'll catch many more.

It really saddens me to read all this shit to the point of losing sleep and having to post on this pretentious ass thread. The reality is Bernie is fucking gone, and no one knew his wishes or exactly what was going through his head the last few days before he was taken from us. All we can do is try to piece together the mess that was left behind...
Rarailu was a part of Bernie's life. Love it, or hate it. It is what it is. Rarailu has as much right as anyone to grieve, and post in this thread with out getting any shit from you guys. Not pointing any fingers, but to assume you know what Bernie wanted, or what's best for him now because you were close at some point in time, does not make it so. Bernie was always evolving and progressing at life and at what ever he chose to do. If Bernie wasn't good at something, it was because he didn't care enough about it to try. To box him in into a certain period of his life because that's the way you remember him is borderline insulting the man and what he stood for as a person.
I knew Bernie for 15+ years. I've cried with him, and we've beat the shit out of each other. I've spent birthdays, and christmas' alone with Bernie without our "friends" or families calling either of us. I've seen people that barely knew Bernie look out for him in ways that most didn't, so let's not assume because we don't know someone or they aren't "crew" that they were not dear to Bernie...
Bernie came to stay with me a couple of weeks before he passed, and all I can say is that he was not the same person I knew. The luster was gone from his eyes. He constantly had headphones on in social situations. He was lying to me and making accusations about people I knew wished no ill upon him. Plain and simple, he didn't give a fuck anymore. The same mental state he worked so hard to put in his back pocket was back ten fold. When he went back home, I spoke to Bernie every night til the night he passed. Pleading with him to not regress...
It's funny how Bernie predicted all of this shit. Fair weather friends and people who just didn't give a fuck about him in life, crying and playing the "best friend" role after his passing. I could honestly give a fuck about what you all think about me, but if you don't count, play your positions, keep your 2 cents to yourselves and respect the man. No one on this forum has the right to belittle an others feelings towards Bernie's passing. This isn't a dick measuring contest to see who is down and who isn't. Some of you fucktards need to stop playing graffiti for a sec and wake the fuck up. This is a fucking tragedy, not a social event. If you had the pleasure of being Bernie's friend, appreciate it, cherish it, and learn from it.
