KILGALLEN, Margaret Leisha -- Our beloved Margaret passed peacefully on June 26, 2001 in the arms of her husband and daughter in San Francisco. An avid surfer, painter, and banjo player, Margaret's life inspired adventure, compassion, joy and great love. Supported by her loving family and friends, Margaret's battle with breast cancer demonstrated a calm courage and grace to enrich our lives. Margaret is survived by her husband Barry McGee; her newborn daughter Asha; her parents James and Dena Kilgallen; her siblings, Lil, Marianne and Jamie; her nephews Brendan, Collin, Conor and Joseph; and her family-in-law Mabel, John and Naomi, Mike, Sherri, and Kim McGee. A vibrant member of the local arts community, Margaret exhibited her work in museums and galleries nationally and internationally most recently at the Institute of Contemporary Art in Philadelphia and Stanford University, where she received her Master of Fine Arts degree on June 17th. Services will be held at St. John of God, 1290 - 5th Avenue on Thursday, June 28 at ten o'clock. In lieu of flowers, the Asha Kilgallen McGee fund has been established for her daughter's care at Bay View Bank, attn: Mark Harris, 443 Castro Street, San Francisco, CA 94114-2019. The family's email address is
[email protected]
Sales of Margaret and Barry's t-shirts will be donated to the Asha Kilgallen McGee fund in honor of her mother. Those wishing to send support are advised to contact Bay View Bank or email the family at the address above.
I only met her twice. Seemingly straight from the playground with her hair up in barrettes, wearing a summer dress and a quirky, timeless grace, her appearance communicated a love of life--the kind that creative spirits enjoy. Art is that intangible, subjective, indescribable stuff that makes life more than living, and I personally looked forward to and sought out the art that Margaret created because it gave me such joy. It is a great loss.
Regretfully,
Matt Houston

what can you say, you know?
Breast cancer is some serious shit. Maybe we can all learn a bit from this as well as so many other women who have fallen victim to this. We need to be aware of this and try to support the cause to find a cure. Much respect to her family and all other victims of breast cancer...

i was talking with someone the night this happened... and i was actually optimistic about the whole thing considering i am usually a pessimist. i know barry i strong and can deal.. and i pray that he can, we havent met, probably wont for a while, different coasts... but i went through seeing loved ones with cancer and it is tough as hell, my mom had breast cancer and ovarian, my grandmother died of metastatis...
to the family my heart goes out... you guys can make it through with all the prayers floating around out there for you guys i sincerely pray that everything lives on...
Nature's first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf's a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.
robert frost.
stay gold guys.
think of asha as a blessing. which i am sure you already do... much love.

show up early to get the best spots and to bust the best shit.
theres not going to be much other than ARTISTS, so you all holla,
for more info. go to www.openzine.com (http://www.openzine.com)
look for BSEEN EVENT.
or in www.vandalized.cjb.net (http://www.vandalized.cjb.net)
or in www.bseen.8m.com (http://www.bseen.8m.com)
go to www.305.s5.com (http://www.305.s5.com)
its on 5th Ave. and N.W. 25th Street

peace. its all love.
event.
well none of that 1st come 1st Serve crap.
they'll be spots for all, its more than 4 long big real walls.
the walls are concrete, and im thinking about giving out
8 feet width and 8 feet high.. and if its a really tight production
and you'll need to continue higher no problem , but painters will need to ask first.
so you pay $(a reasonable Price..)
,anyone you want will be able to get up on your spot, your 8 by 8 wall. and if you and your friends go and you all get another 8 feet side by side ya can paint on all that.. .ya know the rules.
it'll be a moment in HISTORY.
and the Price may drop. so dont let the price scare you.
remember this event will have real walls. inside and outside the factory...
ENTRANCE IS FREE….
so if you want Pre-Sale, a spot, just hit me back up and you'll get to pic the smoothest spot...
some walls are already reserved but they'll be enough.
also Early Birds available, that means that you all can come and paint there before the people show up.. alright holla.. making it good, and easy.. bSeen..
Painters Pieces will be up on a magazine and web site..peace.
Miami Fl, USA.
the event will be on AUGUST 25 2002
it will be near Down Town Miami on 480 N.W 25th Street.
dirrections, none needed, unless you request, its easy to find.
it will be from 12: pm till 8:25 pm
it will have more than just Graffiti.
may be. NOT SURE< there's been complications,
and some planz have changed, but if your an artist you'll love it..
all day long, gurls will be there dancing and all hopefully
muzic, rap performances,if they show up.. and food and merchandize for sale..
suveniers and Giveaways will be available...
there will be actual high walls to paint on...
its in a Factory, indoor and out door,
now i have been threw all the past events so i know what to do to make this one more inProved and better, they can get at me in my SN,
[email protected] and if they reQuest for my number then i will give it to them.
and all outta staters, you show up and you'll go threw the entire Event/party fest. for absolutely FREE. you'll get spots on the wall to show your love and represent your State for FREE. see this is how we show our LOVE.
Locals, will be charged, its not expensive dough. so be there and bSeen.

dude if you like her stuff its a bad ass book, i highly suggest it, really nice and great quality. kinda hard to get a copy of too. also the pbs documentary with her and barry is badass, way too pricey for how short their segment is but borrow it from the library and burn that shit.

some dipshit recently went over a big MAR silver straight letter she had done in a freight tunnel in philly. It was one of my favorite gems in town.
