The scrap facility fortunately is on my daily benching drive so it works out nicely and doesn't cost me any gas I otherwise wouldn't be using. I do recommend not leaving bulk/prepped cans, spray or soda/beer outside as scrappers will tend to come around and take your stuff the night before garbage pick-up day. I had my collection of aluminum, not much fortunately, taken the other day cuz I forgot to bag it. Ultimately I think some enterprising young lad decided to help himself to them. No worries tho as it was only about 80 cents worth. Either way tho, learn from my mistake and bag what you're going to recycle but keep it away from the normal stinky trash so the sanitation guys don't get too confused. They confuse easily.


@ Jib - You mean more pic of the cans I'm scrapping..? If so, I'll take better ones from now on for you. Let me know.

Jib, zynolytes are still coming in but i really dont want to collect them unless they are dope colors. Im trying to monitor my collection and i have been getting rid of stuff that im not really attatched to, and its actually making my collection look better to me. I was gonna get the whole color chart, but i painted with mainly krylon so every time i look at these cans, they are like a red headed stepchild to me. As is spar-var to krylon.

anyone heard of Adobe??? a rusto color from 1983 cans. ran across one and thought is seemed like a color i didnt remember hearing about. post pic soon.

Adobe, Terracotta, Sandstone, Greystone, Burgundy were part of the decorator color line up for rusto in the early 80's....krylon did a similar thing. You used to see them all the time, have not seen one on a shelf ina while. Dope color nice and thick.

thanks man, theres a couple of places ive been finding them, and im loving all of the colors. there are 2 stores im finding them in, i just havent had the money to pick them all up. ill probably end up using a few duplicates, i really want another daffodil.

some nice finds here, but also worth saying that there's some fine quality paints:
Woodsavers (when I say shake these up like CRAZY, i'm not kidding)
Glidden Rust-Master (they made these in OSHA colors, very nice)
Lucas Harvest Gold (this line in Avocado was lovely, bet that Harvest is good, despite danvern valve)
Rusto Adobe (very nice, also needs a good hard shake, probably getting a bit too old to use now... this was the "dog" of the Decorators, should still be able to find it in out of the way spots)

also:
Rusto Sunset Yellow... not bad per se, but perhaps the saggiest paint i've ever used. a good example of a paint that's heavy and yet not easy to use.
Nice Top Coat collection!
Rusto National Blue Scottie is a hard find!
Zynolytes in dope colors with that cool floating screwdriver hole in the overcap.....

great stuff!

oh yeah, misspelling of Caterpillar is nice too!

and thanks for the tip on the lowes clearance paint satin ambers and the rustos. i picked up almost 100 today and i still have like 8 more lowes to go to in my area.

the rusto cans were $1.06 each. even if it isnt the best paint for that price ill buy every can i see.

i got a color chart today of the last good line of krylons before the efffed up the valve system i have almost all of the colors plus some that i guess came out after the chart was made. im still missing some ill post up a list and see if anyone has any when i figure em all out.

and yeah telling everyone about the rustos could be viewed as bad but in places like where i live with a small graff community it dont really matter like u said atleast now it will get used the right way instead of painting a mailbox or something. and in the bigger cities the first person that finds that deal will clean out all the lowes near by anyways so who cares who knows. i cleaned up on the jo anns cans when yall tipped me off as well. i normally dont go to those stores to get paint because i get it "cheaper" at other stores and through mural jobs and such i get a tons of free paint so i appreciate it when someone spreads the news.

^Big Mack- Good to know you grabbed some of those Joann's cans when they were getting discontinued. I still have a grip load to get through, but I used a Sage Green last weekend and damn it's good stuff... I have no idea who made it. Just that the colors are really solid. A downer to know it's all dissappeared now from the shelves.

yeah man i got all of it from all the stores in my area. some of the colors were real good. great paint to just use and not care about how much you use. just blast away. i used it to do a full background instead of a rollout a couple of times like 20 cans just because i always wanted to do a background with spraypaint but didnt want to spend like $100 on the paint i would use up doing it. its fun though you can cut around your piece so nice and get real crisp with it.

they have the AA nutmegs on clearance for something like $2 at jo ann's. but they dont have a lot. maybe a couple of cans. went in a joanns on a road trip to see if they had any of the $1 cans and saw those. its a good color. i love all the AA brownsh tan colors they have. most work great.

Below is a set of empty cans I found in an old train car scrapping yard. It was in a garbage bag, not closed tight, at the end of an old early 20th century passenger car. I just tapped the bag with my foot and these fell out. They were in surprisingly good condition. It was the first time I ever actually sold true garbage. From then on, everything was possible. Got $12.00 for them. Lose your pride and dumpster dive....trust me. There's money in them there containers. Yee haw.

$100 shipped is a very reasonable price for a high grade NOS Jungle Green. Yeah sure you could wait for one to pop up on ebay, and than hope that it don't get bid up. On top of your bid you are going to pay most likely $10 for shipping. In the past 10+ years on ebay sale prices have been up and down so many times.....on top of that $100 for a can you will almost NEVER find on a shelf is a bargain when people are paying $50+ for shit that is used and rusty....kids these days....

jib funny thing man i got that jungle from you and some of those other cans then i went to a harware store in my own town and found 1 case hiding away in the basement of the store. i couldnt believe my eyes. i had just been ripping the casses open becaus ethere was a ton of stuff in there and then out of nowhere i see the tops and though it was some other bs paint just a cool color, i hadnt even looked at the side of the box where it said krylon. lol. jungle greens. i wanted to yell out loud but i tried to keep myself composed. lol. got em plus everything else for $1.50 a can.

then they tell me when they moved stores about 10 years ago they had tons more paint and threw a huge commercial garbage can full away. damn

Mayco definitely looks like Plasti-kote. The Barkers is anyone's guess. We know of filling companies like Spruce, Ill-Bronze, and Nybco, but who knows about smaller companies and local businesses that did the same thing and just copied designs and product info? There's few if any hard and fast rules. Unless there's something tell-tale on the back of the can, it's very hard to determine. And I have a Fay's that's not clear who made it and doesn't look like a Nybco. How would we know what a Raabe custom fill looked like?

Red devil I think did some custom fill cans, and so did krylon but you don't see them too often. Sometimes I think companies hid it so well you would never know. I have been told on multiple occasions that Krylon makes Ace paint....

whisper whites have been discussed here a few times, BIGMETAL has some good thoughts on em. used a few, nothing amazing, but hardly went for them when i saw them.

i'm sure people say Krylon makes a lot of different brands, when it's more likely that a brand is produced by somewhere under the (huge) SWP umbrella. saying it's made by Krylon is a good way to sell the product.

speaking of which, I'm somewhat surprised to see a SWP Red Devil chart. i know that some chain stores sometime have current-ish Red Devil stock, but I really would have thought that SWP would have done away with this brand by now. no one wants to see Red Devil as a viable paint still in production more than I, but it's been the pattern with SWP to horizontally acquire a company and then shut it down... see IllBronze, Nybco, etc. I basically figured that unless they'd kill it off, SWP would make Red Devil their bargain brand for store chains, kinda like what RPM/Rusto did with Derusto.

I know one thing, graffiti is an art for the struggling. If your old enough, you can relate that when you started out nobody was spending 3-4 grand on paint between late 80s and the 90s. Its changed due to suburb hipsters and kids with mommy and daddys credit card on art primo and bombing science paying for paint. Ebay etc.

Im close to 35 and dont crash at home, ive spent 3 grand in one sitting at a poker table 10 years ago. Doesnt really mean anything. I didnt mean to turn this into a question of what 4 gees is. Im just saying its alot of cash to blow on paint. Didnt wanna turn it into a pissing match.

Well said. My parents have long been gone out of my life. The dirt underneath my fingernails provides me with the cash to "blow" on various whimsical passions. Take my advice, enjoy what money you have, because when you pass those who.get will surely enjoy it. Those rusto oil cans can be used for fills and if you have spray you can use that to cut it. That QD green probably has lead....

I was thinking of making the QD green into a deco marker holder but I figured I'd put it out for others to grab before I change it up...tho if there's lead in it I may pass on my idea altogether. Wish they had paper labels so I could just save them....alas they aren't.

Few cans from trades (Exol can is just cleaned up from last weeks find)....I don't think I have ever seen a fuller that old. All the rest I have are newer with warnings on the front....
