does anyone have anything to report on those new skinny nib big bodied Grog squeezers?

Few questions:
1)
This didn't work out. Does anyone offer MARSH T-GRADE in pint size? All I can find is quarts.
2)

I've just purchased this Esterbrook Advanced Flo Master NEW NR pen off ebay. What's the story here? I thought Esterbrook does not exist anymore. I can not find a company website. Am I wrong? And if so do they still offer 'Flo-Master' ink?
I also bought this for $0.99 :) :

This is crazy nice, I didn't realise they could take other nibs, the T-nib looks cool). Its the kind of pen you could tuck into a suit pocket on the way to work (if it doesn't leak of course...lol) Tested it yet?

best results if you flare the nib.honestly i didnt think this thing would last more than 15 tags or so but ive had it for quite some time and its still goin strong.
i thought the same thing. so bomb on windows. i didn't do anything to the nib when i got it, but after a couple days of use mine looked the same^^^

you know what would be bomb in there?
one-shot sign paint + one-shot reducer (the reducer is thinner, but you can ONLY use their thinner for their paint because it's a complicated formula).
one-shot is dope. bright, lasting.
but if you put it in a plastic marker it'll react with the plastic and warp it.
also you're not gonna get any drips with a sharpie paint. which may be your thing. it's definitely my thing, clean hands are take more skill and look better when done right.

i just put some silver thinned rusto with like a quarter of the marker filled with the blue in there and it looks ill now. silver with bluish highlights. but i will try that out i just need to find out where they sell it and if its rackable. sharpie paints are metal so i should be good with the warping

Also, what about sort of melting oil pastels and putting that in, or would it need to be mixed (:

just go to the 98 cent store (not the 99 cent store chains) like one of those asian-owned (usually) 98 cent stores, where you get the jesus candles, and like cheap incense.. and just go to the section where there is little kid school supplies.. usually they will have off brand sharpies.. the ones by me were called shonries i think.. ive had sharmarks before too.. they look exactly like the regular sharpies (every color) but the ink inside smells like SHIT its like stanky as shit.. i bet if you mixed all the colors together (like 8 markers for a dollar) it would make a nice ink..

No. As great of a miracle this would be, that's not how ink works. Shitty ink + different colored, same shitty ink = shitty ink. Seriously... if you're going out to places to buy ink, go to any arts and crafts store and buy Pilot ink for very cheap considering its quality.

DO NOT EVER USE BREAK FLUID. EVER. IT DOES NOTHING.
Second of all- please search this thread. There is countless information on MB throughout this thread. It is a great stainer, but you have to make sure you use the right amount and in the right form (solid) if you want it to be effective, especially if you plan to put it in a marker.

You could try it on some metal, but the nib is really stiff, so it'd get worn down REALLY quick, if you buy one you'll see what I mean, it isn't meant as an all-purpose marker, I think thats true with all calligraphy pens (i dunno)

On the topic of markers, I suppose it's only appropriate I post here. I use my closet as a canvas... only working with various markers.. ink and paint. The concern that has recently came into my mind.. could this shit be toxic? I know there is a possibility.. but there are no fumes coming off.. but carbon monoxide doesn't always give of smelly fumes and that shit can kill you. It a walk in closet.. and I keep my clothes in here.. worried maybe they can absorb some toxins.. Any useful feedback would be helpful.

Their inks are both a waste of money. All you are paying for is a grossly overpriced marker body that you can find at your local arts and crafts store. Haha I got a pink one too. Found them joann's fabrics. They had green, blue, yellow and pink. I was asking the woman what she thought about them and she said they were pretty good, but had a loooong drying time. I drew a bunch of hearts on an amp rack and yeah after about an hour i licked my finger and could wipe it off.. It look liked it thickened up after a bit.
Oh they glow under black-light she said =] you can tag da club and yo shit be bangin in the UV son!
As for woodcraft, I saw there was some discussion on these. I kinda like them. Pretty pricey at Micheal's but the paint is really juicy and the nib is pretty sturdy. Apparently they are refillable. I read on some website, forget which one, that said they carry refill ink for them.
Come in a ton of colors. Even more in the smaller one's.

I had a bunch of old sharpie paint markers for a few years ago. Thought I would contribute a little to this thread. It's not exactly the most creative thing on the planet but it takes about 10-20min to make it and it works pretty dang well. Hope no one has already done one of these and posted. It's hard going through all the posts to check.
Here we go
Step 1:
Remove cap. Unscrew the top of the marker. Pour paint out. Clean out marker shell.
(You can keep the mixing ball if you want it)
http://c1.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/134/l_febe7f842d3b4a5d9f2910e2ea8256d8.jpg
Step 2:
Inside the plastic part that holds the nib, there is a small circle of cork. Push pull it out with pliers or pry it out with a pen. Throw the cork away.
http://c3.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/142/l_93a360b38c78476d98c4af2d40720986.jpg
Step 3:
On the plastic tip, there is a wide section that is threaded. You want this. Cut the rest off.
http://c1.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/115/l_41880738f4ba4b0d9d3f49644560d078.jpg
Step 4:
Take a strip of chalk board felt and fold in half. Cut the felt to where it's sticking into the casing about half of an inch. Making sure you have the felt held tight together and force it through the plastic tip section. When you get it through, you want to make sure you can't push it through from the writing side. Also check to make sure you can't see where the felt is folded. It should be very very snug fitting so it does not leak ink.
http://c4.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/134/l_8b75c3f1de034ae1a30853c9ce58c157.jpg
Step 5:
Fill your casing with the ink of your choice, push the felt into the container till the threads touch the casing and screw it down tight.
http://c1.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/149/l_e01fbc64ca224ef085b886b1a4f27a3c.jpg
Step 6:
Have fun.

I complete forgot to mention. When your putting your nib in, you want to push it from the bottom up through the top as shown.
http://c1.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/141/l_40ef4f1fa7e7446bb11b5fb1c1dd9404.jpg
It's going to be a pretty damn tight squeeze. Keep pushing it till it goes through enough. Use the flat side of a pen. The felt is tough, you wont tear through it. This will make sure, once again, that it does NOT leak on you.
http://c3.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/143/l_20b883ca998a4b0391814e6ae6f11276.jpg
If you want different types of nib shape, such as a circle or a rectangle, you can shave out the top of the plastic that your nib is being pushed through. Just above the threads there is enough room to make it work.
Here is an example.
http://c4.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/142/l_70650103f3274dacab35570d9ec5df6b.jpg
Possible issues.
1. When screwing the nip/tip back onto the shell, depending on how wide the felt is, it might feel like it's not going on, or might even push the felt up some. This is okay. Turn the marker upside down over some news paper and push down onto the flat hard surface and start twisting the nib/tip back onto the shell.
It should not spill. If your felt is that tight in the shell, most likely you won't loose any ink putting it together this way.
There is also a little rubber gasket type of deal inside the tip of the shell. Experiment around, maybe pull it out.
2. Sometimes the caps have a little trouble going back on and staying on. This could really suck. Easy fix. With the increased height and width of the felt nib, the cap might have to be pushed down harder to make it's connection. You can also try twisting the cap while pushing downward.
Another good way that I found is to give a bit of grip to the cap. Get that electrical tape handy and put a single strip around the plastic tip that holds the nib. Then another strip, or two if you like, on the body just below the line.
BOILFAST
02-10-2010, 05:05 AM
good idea man, but if you want to put the cap back on easier only cut away to the first ridge
yea the nib won't be as big but then there's no extra dripping from squeezing the top back on
Kandybah

Yeah depending on the size of the nib you want, you could do that, there are a lot of options.
The thing is, depending on how full the body is with your ink, it would still drip no matter how slim the nib. That also depends on how deep into the body the felt goes down.
With the thick chalkboard felt that I used, I noticed it didn't push the ink out to overflow. The felt just soaked it up as I pushed it in. So I think it also depends on the consistency of whatever medium your filling in your marker.
That's the neat thing about making your own marker. It's your own. You can make it however you want =] I think it's a lot of fun, plus gives your mark a bit of personality with all those different tips you can make.

I found a line of paint markers that work better than decos. These markers are super opaque and cost half as much as the elmers painters brand. Deco seems to take two coats to cover the page....even with darker colors.
They have a few different nib sizes and a lot of different colors..including silver and gold. They're just about...if not as opaque as the molotow paint markers I have.

B!G D
03-09-2010, 05:27 AM
aparently...
if you're on artprimo look at the on the run and molotow markers. they have a nib you depress that lets the ink/paint flow through. thats the valve system at work.
for a pilot marker you want an alcohol based ink. which is the stuff thats more liquidy.. such as on the run flowpen ink, pilot ink, grog, garvey and molotow has some stuff i've heard is good speedflow n coversall. i believe thats what its called.. I think thats what ap has, i'm just going from memory
but if you want something thick and can cover most other stuff get a mop. ap has them as drip mops. fill it with smash or any other paint type fluid they have. and they also work in valve markers but can be streaky so i personally prefer the mop.
hope that helps. tried to put it as simply as i could

using something thick in a marker with a "valve" (by this you mean regulator right?) would gum that marker the fuck up rendering it useless ..
use thick shit in a kiwi shoe polish marker or something along the lines of a bingo dabber and pop the regulator (the plastic spiral thingy under the nib) out
peace!

Well, as I know alot of you people still go to grade school (don't deny it...and as for those who DON'T, I'm not talking about you...)
Well, chalk is being phased out of schools, as apparently, it's not good for the body (Nawwww....). This means dry erase boards.
Hate your teacher? Steal those nice dry-board erasers...the material on them makes a good nib.
Still hate your teacher and want to ruin their ability to teach for the day? STeal their dry erase markers. You can open them, take out the crap liquid that's used for writing, get rid of the nib (or just use it...) and fill it with what ever ink you prefer.
I have another method for a nib (made from some UBER ABSORBENT material...) by opening a certain type of Printer Cartridge and using the sponge thingy (it's not a sponge. It looks like hair, but sucks up ink and water like one...) as a nib in a stolen dry erase marker, but I won't be able to post flicks because I have no camera period...-_-

^ reminds me of this printer maintenence cartridge in our wide format printer at work. It looks like 10 of the dry erase felts.....stacked side by side. It's like a repository for ink....soaks up the excess ink from the printer...eventually you gotta replace it....which is it's purpose.
Has anyone thought of using a sham-wow for a nib? It's pretty absorbent....maybe fold it a few times. Sounds like a joke I know...but who knows it might work?

FOR NON-RACKING WRITERS:
There's a sale going on at Hobby Lobby...20% off paint markers. Singles and sets.
A couple weeks back there was also a sale at Michaels, 2 for $5....not sure if it's still going on or not.

pilot super colours are better
easier to take the sponge out
better nib quality
and you can squeeze the barrel easier

Uni mebe? Or teh krinkz..top one looks like a mop a little bit but it's too clean
Yea, that's why I wasn't too sure because it had zero drip so I had kinda ruled krink out.
Pew_Pew_Pew

If it's a valve marker you don't have to get drips with it. Don't squeeze a mop, you don't get drips....but that's pushing it a bit far with those clean lines up top.
Pilot jumbo maybe? OTR?

yea the middle line on the E of the DE seems to have a chiseled tip, probably a valve marker like an otr or a pilot

^ i think that up there is a mop that hasnt been squeezed. those "chiseled bits" are actually where the mop has been lifted off the surface. and on the top picture there is a big bit of ink.
i only say this because i can make mops do that and it just looks the same. just my opinion, i could be wrong

does permanent acrylic paint work good as an ink ingredient? they come in those little plastic bottles.
not sure if this has been answered but in my experience dont mix paint with ink

you can add ink into paint but not paint into ink

I havent seen anyone post anythin about "ironlak" spray paint? i have just started to use it, and so far i have no compplaints... its thick, they have mad colors, and they are german, so you can use german fats. Does anyone else have anything to say about ironlak? Is it good, bad?
