really i don't care.
if you don't laike latex on trains than fine. but its paint so who the fuck cares. yeah that was a nice midwest layup and not some passenger station, but 2 holyrollers-worth of spray paint fumes would have attracted some attention from the people around and the cops that rolled by every so often. not to mention that it was done right next to an a2m whole car. so whatever... hate all you want.
that being said i would love to get over to europe and hit those passenger trains and get that rush that fuck all talks about.
i think it will be funny when they split up.

There wasn't a Skew as far as I know, but there was a 4 car wholetrain by Nema. I understand he is trying to keep the photos exclusive, so I haven't posted them here. All those shots were from Christmas just gone, all done in the same yard. I didn't paint, but one of my friends did, so I got the shots. Anyhow, here is another one from UK last christmas:

Sorry but 10 of these wholecars would not be worth one passenger train..... you can't compare the two. I know it's been discussed on here alot why Americans like to paint freights- pieces running all over the country...cool. But why not paint clean trains too? I'm sure they run as long as most passenger trains in Europe or Australia- a couple of days at the most.... The joy of seeing a station packed with hundreds of people as a wholecar pulls in and people can't work out where the door is let alone the buttons to open it and then sitting inside the wholecar... that's another story! For me the joy of graffiti is putting it where people wouldn't expect it, upsetting the balance of their very dull, normal lives- I don't see how a freight could do this.

if these trains are so hard to paint, how the fuck do you get such quality day flicks? i mean, shouldnt it be equally impossible to go back into the yard in the day let alone the night and get the flicks? or are these taken somewhere else? but alot of them are taken in the yard, so what im wondering is, you go through all this trouble, but you waltz in the yard in the day and take flicks? im not being a smartass im seriously wondering, i have freight spots i cant even go into in the day and get flicks. so whats up?

It ain't too hard to run into a depot/yard and spend 20 seconds getting photos and run away. If you did get caught you'd only get trespass which is a fine at most. It is a different matter going in a yard at daytime, and spending 20 minutes painting. Or, it could be that they have a killer zoom on the camera to get the shots, or the photos were taken at 5.30am on a summers day when it is lovely and light already. I'm talking from England, so can't tell you about anywhere else.

If the train that is painted is in service then shit, you just wait at the platform for it to pull in. If you know the line, you know which stations are best to get a photo at.

this one in particular boggles my mind, its obviously not in service, and it sure did take sometime to paint, but the flick is a really good shot. i guess im wondering if its that hard to paint the damn thing, how is it so easy to get flicks? im not sure where this was painted, maybe its a chill spot, well it has to be somewhat chill to pull something like this off by yourself. i mean i have no clue the situation of the yard itself, but from what i hear you have to go thru razor wires and such, and i could only imagine how hard it would be to get in at night let alone the day. even if it was at 530 am, most transit systems are still going that early in the morning, and that doesent look like a distance shot, its pretty flat on and im guessing there would be a fence blocking this yard. maybe one just runs in and out and risks getting a tresspassing fine. maybe this spot isnt as hard as the most. im not sure, but im still amazed at the quality of this photo if theres as much security as i hear there is. maybe not all spots are as hard as theysay. great stuff none the less. its just one of those things.

All it takes is a bit of sence; watching the yard for a bit before you go back in again, picking your moment and doing the old 'in out', it does'nt take long to snap some flicks! but it does get your adrenaline pumping going back in the yard at early light, plus then seeing what you have done!

I bloody hate getting daytime shots, sleeping rough or in the car for a few hours in the freezing cold, then staggering back freezing your bollox off, bags under your eyes all to get a daylight flick!

T.T., to clean train writers, documenting the action is equally as important as the action itself. The mission isn't over until good clean pictures are obtained. Thus, taking a great amount of risk to get those photos is worthwhile to most.

Passengers: depends what country, but a hell of alot harder than any freight I have ever painted. Benching for 2 hours in the main station to get flicks just to see it roll in on the wrong platform, so I gotta get in the bitch, riding in your panel, nothing like it, except riding in your wholecar, thats orgasmic, I have been blessed to be able to do both, getting off two stations later to get the flicks with people looking at me like I am a crazy man and finally put an end to the mission. Because like what was said before, its not over until you get your flicks.

I fully feel your veiw. I wasn't comparing them in that respect though. I'm well aware that the rush of hitting a passenger train is not comparible to freights. I was just comenting on the the SIZE of the ta wholecar. I guess you could never appreciate it unless you've been in a yard of auotraks.

Sorry, being from the UK can i ask why a Workers train is considered less worthy than a Freight? Here in the UK we have th hireachy of Tubes (Metros) / National rail BR (probably closest equivilent is Amtrak) and then anything else (Frieghts, Workers, Track griters etc)

i dont paint engines or trucks (cause we have trucks that roll on rails) or track reconstruction equipment cause they will know exactly where it was done.

JTF, not true, the line here (subway0 runs paralell with the freight line, it follows it through teh entire city, many a times have i caught whole cars sitting on the line while im at a station. sure its one track over, but its still there, just stopped and being admired by a ton of people. now, im not saying people paint whole cars so they can get here and people can look at them, im just saying, in certain situations, they can have as much impact. sure theyre not boarding the freight, but a ton of business people will wonder how the fuck it got done and what its doing there. but you are right, a wholecar in the station beats freights.

Oh la la... I've been sleeping on this thread.

Whoever was having that arguement over freights vs clean trains... unless you live in Wyoming or Nebraska or some shit (Yes, I've actually been to Wyoming and you can see freights clearly on all major highways and streets), you have to go to a train yard or layup to actually see shit. Freights are great for dirtbags like most of us that actually like to hang out in such weird places. What's great about clean trains is that while you're waiting for the subway to take you to your 9-5 job, the graffiti is there right smack in your face.

i was neever a super huge fan of european graf for the most part. but looking at these trains (and a lot of really nice walls ive been spotting) i have to change my opinion. the quality of some of these cars (and this is mostly just on the last page) is outstanding. most of the stuff i was usually seeing was huge silvers , wich were always cool but nothing like these cars. they just blow my mind!

This is a scrapcar, but its done at night, over two nights actually.
This photo isnt from Bates, the people who take the photo and publish it should point it out, Bates has no control over this.

PS Bates has done plenty of live trains too...

nato, ive heard alot of different arguments about flicks like that (euros arguing). how often does something like that take place? ive heard its done only once for a flick and then the spot is blown. i mean thats pretty nuts, so how often does something like that go down?

Not that often, well not that blatantly anyway. Some subways are only possible to do on a backjump, so people do them like that. As for how often, well how lucky do you feel? Some places like Oslo and Barcelona it seems to happen a lot more than others. Sorry it isn't a very definate answer, but there are no hard and fast rules when it comes to stuff like that.
