Where are you suggesting they "learn" to paint? Chum 101's school for graffiti vandals?

Why not learn in the yard if that is where they want to pressure-test themselves? What you are forgetting is that not everyone aims to put up a pretty picture.

The fore-most aim is to GET NOTICED! Whether you get noticed through an eye-catching style, by getting up more than others or by a combination of both and/or other factors is a personal choice.

Style develops over time - the vast majority of people were shit when they started, but after a while (a couple of months, years or even decades in some cases), they will improve until they reach an "acceptable" standard, whatever that might be.

yardnob when did i say i rated silk dm more? i didnt. silk cms is better and has done more doesnt mean he has the right to rob a tag. hes knowen about silk dm for long and chose not to change i think thats pritty disrespectfull, esspecially as silk dm is out there now doin his own thing paintin steel on the regs and dont try say he isnt coz u wouldnt know. and as far as the born goes, compare that with the props have a look at em both i think props letters smak the shit out of borns. props is much crisper look at borns white inner outline all over the place. look at the diiference in fills and there both yard mishions as u can see the next tube through the windows of borns dub. ur probly gona chat some shit now but i couldnt care less at the end of the day its an opinion and everyone is entitled to there own. im awaiting ur stubbon reply reguarding the silk issue and born safe.

That Silk tube looks ok to me, I've seen FAR worse stuff on the tubes than that, believe. First piece straight on a tube for Tich, tough canvas for a first paint so props for that. Of course everyone elses first tube pieces were t2b wc wildstyle burners with characters weren't they? Think back boys... :)

I think Yardcore had sum wise words to say wen he gave them "true ass" quotes. At the end of the day only a handful of writers are still living it the original way, riding the lines, racking paint etc. You've got to get to know the underground before u start to just roll in and bait up yards. So much for Props and that lot saying they didnt hot up the plot- there were trackies working on the outside train as they sed. Now if this isnt bait, wot is?? I doubt any of these new jacks would live it up the proper way as Fume and Bozo once stated- leaving the house with no money and riding the underground, racking everything u need and then coming home late, stinking of paint having just pulled sumthing respectable off. Sorry if this too long for any dumb toys but all the fun of tube painting is lost if ur sum toy who sits on the internet all day, buys their £5 montanas and then ventures out 2 bait up a yard.

got a copy a few weeks ago. not bad. put out by the people involved in running under pressure in montreal. Aside from the first 45 pages full of corny ass shit like "how to choose a name" and "how to make a mop" the rest is good interviews with writers. Heres the list of interviews:

the parties r normaly once a month in the summer. type in 'reclaim the beach' on yahoo, but u gotta keep checking, they dont tell the date till quite close to the night. its wierd, cos the raves r not legal, but they r not illegal either! cos its on the river, the police cant do anything, apparently the laws are slightly different on the water-line, its coast gaurds job, not the met police, so as long as theres no trouble at the raves (good, cos they are well chilled, thats why they rok), they let em go on. see u at the next one all!!!!!!:crazy:

London Underground in partnership with British Transport Police is launching Operation Rhino 2003 just before the start of the summer holidays to combat the threat of trespass and vandalism by youngsters.

Tony McNulty, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State will launch the scheme as it enters its third successful year. He will meet the Metropolitan Police Air Support Unit (MPAS) which will land its helicopter at the back of Eastbrook Comprehensive School, Dagenham Road, Dagenham, on Wednesday 02 July.

Mr McNulty will also see some of the work of London’s Transport Museum’s School Liaison team, which educates youngsters about the dangers of trespassing on the railway.
Operation Rhino is a partnership between London Underground’s Operational Security Team, the British Transport Police (BTP), MPAS and the local community which has seen route crime (vandalism and trespass) cut by almost 45% on the District Line.

The campaign receives enthusiastic support from the local community and in particular local schools, which assist by allowing London Underground to send letters home to every parent or carer with the school report to alert them to the dangers of children playing near the railway.

Trespassers and vandals, some as young as eight years old, throw objects at trains and damage fencing and railway equipment. Not only putting Underground customers and staff at risk, but themselves.

BTPChief Inspector David Dickason, BTP, said: “Operation Rhino has proved a success by cutting vandalism and trespass by almost 45%. But we still have a long way to go and we will be expanding to other hotspots around the system in time for the school summer holidays.

“This year, for the first time, we will have the British Transport Police help line number inside every District Line train window, so that if any Tube passenger or staff witness a train being vandalised they can call free on 0800 40 50 40.”

Mike Brown, London Underground’s Director of Customer Services (Stations), said: “We have a very successful partnership between London Underground and the British Transport Police. Vandalism on our railway is something that we take incredibly seriously. It causes disruption to our service as well as bringing potentially fatal consequences for our staff and customers.

“Over the past three years we have been able to reduce delays caused by vandalism and with the continuation of this scheme we will be able to improve this further.

“ Not only has Operation Rhino had a positive effect, but also the hard work of London’s Transport Museum School Liaison team, who have visited schools around London educating children about using and travelling on the Tube safely as well as the dangers incurred by vandalism and trespassing.”

Sergeant Richard Pooley of the Metropolitan Police Air Support Unit said: “This is a great example of partnership working and I’m pleased that the Air Support Unit continues to play a key role in tackling and reducing crimes on the railway system in London.

“The regular use of the Met’s helicopters over hotspots act as a deterrent to people thinking about committing crimes such as vandalism and trespassing which can be very dangerous near railway lines. Our unique viewpoint and speed of travel across London also enables us to spot potential incidents and deal with them quickly.”

excuse me if this is wrong, but isn't operation rhino more to do with little gippo type kids that throw bricks at the tubes round eastsides, put shit on the tracks etc??? They got undercovers with dogs patrolling parks that have tube lines going through them...doesn't seem much to do with graf at all.

That's what I originally thought. But here are a few points to bear in mind...

1. How many people have been out doing backjumps and popped a few windows (or been with someone who has popped some windows)?

2. If the Met are spending thousands of pounds on getting airborne, they are going to want as many arrests as possible to justify that expense. They are not going to discriminate between a kid taking a short-cut home across the tracks and someone spraying paint onto a train. The Rail Cops documentary showed just how petty BTP are (chasing kids walking down tracks and adults taking a shortcut home, etc). From what I have experienced, the Met are just as petty...

3. In my experience, graffiti is regarded by the police and courts as mindless criminal damage. If you scratch a word into a window, you'll be treated the same as someone who has thrown a brick through a window. If you write on a train it is classed as vandalism - FULL STOP!

4. Look at the situation in NYC after September 11th. There was a serious step-up in security to combat terrorists, but that affected writers as well. Just because the flying pigs and the sniffer dogs were not put there because of us does not mean that they won't arrest us!

"Oh, I'm sorry son, I thought you were one of the gippo type kids throwing bricks at tubes. As you're only criminally damaging the side of London Underground property we'll let you go! On your way, son!"

So, be aware!

Panels running on Met today (Thursday 10th). Just caught the tops of the panels as my tube passed it, judging by length there's probably 2 panels at least. I saw it when it was travelling Eastbound as it travelled Westbound so that should explain what side it's on :confused:
