thanks MrC

The 669 was about 2 years old (EXP 11/02) but still came out well.
Looks a bit blue/purple because of it's age. Not bad for 7.99 @ a twin pack!
FYI, that last exposure of the window light was 5 minutes.

One more.

Gotcha. I use a variety of Polaroid cameras, depending on what I'm photographing.
For the 669 and 690 I used a 250 Land Camera (http://www.rwhirled.com/landlist/pics/campics/250.jpg). I was able to buy a cable release for it off eBay for $10 and it proves handy.
For the 600 film I use an SX-70 Sonar (http://www.rwhirled.com/landlist/pics/campics/Sonar.jpg).

yeah, this is waht i have, i love it. I want an slr for the simple reason i want to change the lenses and things of that nature, its like ive pushed my camera to the limits, and basically i did what i wanted, which was get into the digital realm, and play with photography to see if i really liked it before i spent large bucks.

plus
-small and compact, portable
-great pictures
-reasonable price
-12/13 shooting modes
-ergonomic

cons
-lenses arent really changable, you can get more, but eh, its really not worth it
-plastic body, ive snapped something on mine
-screen is small, cant manual focus and shit very well

that sepia shot of the LA River is gorgous, i downloaded it a few days ago as my desktop, may possibly be asking for a print.

is that digital or film? it looks like theres burning done to the sky, i assume you can do that with digital too?

Yeah, it's digital. I don't know what you mean by "burning" though. That's awesome that you might want to get it printed. It was taken in the summer of '03. If you want it in its original color let me know. peace.

ATTENTION : All Polaroid posters/users!

I have some cool news.

I'm on Polazone.com (http://www.polazone.com), and a few of us have decided to start our own Polaroid book.

Because there aren't enough people on that site, or who visit the forums,
we are looking for more Polaroid enthusiasts to have some work displayed in the book.

We're looking for integral pieces only though.
These are 600 film, 500 film, Mio film, Spectra Film and Time-Zero film.

If you're interested, send me what you think are your
two best/favorite integral works: angryalanweb@yahoo.com

Or better yet, set up your own portfolio on Polazone.com,
http://www.polazone.com/join.htm.

Thanks.

you can get 3200 film at almost any photo store, good brand is Tmax3200 by kodak, this allows you to take pictures in extreamly low lit situations such as yours. i have turned many a writers on to this and many of them tell me the dont even try to use thier digital for night shots anymore. it can be a bit grainy, but i love the shit. give it a try.

i assume these where film,...
you can get 3200 film at almost any photo store, good brand is Tmax3200 by kodak, this allows you to take pictures in extreamly low lit situations such as yours. i have turned many a writers on to this and many of them tell me the dont even try to use thier digital for night shots anymore. it can be a bit grainy, but i love the shit. give it a try.

thanks a lot man. yeah, what i was saying was that the actual prints of those pictures came out better than what i posted, the quality was just compromised because i have no scanner. i'll definitely check it out though. thanks again

Since I don't even remember the start of it anymore, could anyone summarize quickly for me what the point of passing an entire camera with film around through the mail was?

With some of the expenses incurred through shipping that I'd read recently and other setbacks it almost seems like it would have been cheaper and easier for everyone to pick up a polaroid of this type from a second hand shop then mail the resulting photos to one person. Maybe I'm silly.

I'll stick with digital anyway. :-)

Hell yeah, the old Roland TR-606. I picked it up used off E-Bay a few months ago, sounds kind of lame if you run it plain, but I have it going through an Electro-Harmonix tube distortion/envelope, a Boss overdrive/distortion, and an analog delay pedal, you can do some wild shit with the 606 and a few decent pedals. Amazing that the machine is over 20 years old. Sucks that yours was busted and stolen.

Apparently you can get some modded version that lets you tweak the hell out of the drum sounds, but it's like 800 bucks.

There's nothing special about the camera itself, it's an old polaroid 220, you can grab them off ebay for under $10 usually.

What's special about the project itself, and the whole reason the entire package is being mailed around, is that there's a book with it. Everyone in the passaround gets 2 pages front and back, to do whatever they want with. So it's not just polaroid pictures being taken and put in a book, but it's everyone contributing their own artwork.

ps. if anyone can directly reach Ese, please do so and get him to pass on his address to me, cause that's all I'm waiting on at this point

Gnome toys:you stick with digital cause its ass. im sorry if that offends a whole lot of people, which it will, and i am not really sorry, but while i have seen some ill work with digital, shit that can't be done with film, i have yet to see a digital shot that really captues me and shoves emotion down my spine the way film does. maybe saying digital is ass is a little harsh but i for one am impressed a hell of a lot more with film shots. also knowing that the actual frame was brought to life in someones hands in a lab somewhere, instead of downloading it on to your hard drive is another factor....whatever thats me.

fermentor: i cant remember which, but one of the very popular soft synths i beleive has a TR 606 model on it and is very tweakable....but you dont seem like a soft synth guy at all, i like that, keep shit natural, technology is good i love it but sometimes you gotta get vintage on some shit to give it that organic sound, so much new shit coming out sounds like video game butt slop, if you know how to use soft synths well and can really recreate a natural sound thats one thing, i for one like to keep shit hood dutty with my yamaha dx100...ask a brotha.

8onus: I actually write a lot of stuff using Reason, Fruityloops 2.0, and an old copy of Cooledit simply because I can get them for free. But I'm definitly in favor of hardware over software, it's just getting my hands on real equipment is difficult and expensive, plus I hate spending a shitload of money on something and then having no idea how to use it (like I did with a Yamaha RMX-1 a few years back). I'm slowly building an analog collection but I'm making sure that not only am I sure of what I'm getting, but that it is also actually analog, I want to get away from digital sounds. But Reason can be a very, very good program if you use it correctly.

But enough thread-hijacking, sorry.

I send out an old school Polaroid camera (seen here (http://www.rwhirled.com/landlist/pics/campics/220.jpg)), two new 20 packs of Polaroid 669 color film and a handmade book.

The deal is, you take two Polaroids with the camera and film given, paste them in your two designated pages in the book anyway you want.. paint on it, draw in it, do whatever.
Then it goes to the next person.
I've also said that it's fine if anyone wants to add more OTHER Polaroid pictures.. like 600 film, 500 film, etc.

The purpose of the PPA is to get the people on the list to use an old fold-out Polaroid camera and also to use Peel-Apart film.
It's a great photography medium that not many people are aware of, and it still exists.

both the pill shots are pretty good...kinda like the cup cake too.

the picture of that alley way could really become something...notice how the light on tree line dosn't look quite right? and raising the contrast within the alley would help too...if you don't know how, ask in the photoshop help thread.

If it's a new camera, I'd call them about those dead pixels immediately and see about getting it replaced, or take it back to the store and raise a fit. I've owned some Nikons in that line older than that one and never had that problem, I think it developed one hot pixel after a year of use but nothing to that extent.

Same fucking thing man.
I'm pissed. I read the PDF file on returns on the Nikon site..
I noticed you have to send it out on your own, wait forever, etc...

I sent out an SX-70 Polaroid Special Edition to a place in Texas, they sent it to a place in Mass. who estimated the repair at $139. I paid $20 for the camera, so I told them to keep the damn thing.

I'm not doing that shit again with this Nikon.
Hell, I can just attatch a cheap flash unit to the hot-socket.
As long as the Auto Focus (orange light) still works, I'm all set.

Ok, I find that amazing!
That box has been all around the world for almost a year.
I really thought one of you would get a new box, but no.
Damn, that's cool.

Awesome ese, hope everything still works ok.
Don't forget, if there are more than two shots left, just use them all...

glad it got there okay :) no word back yet from the bastards at customs about those fees, but it's not a big deal anymore -- started a new job a couple weeks back.

gave a roll of b&w to my girl to develop at the lab at her school, but she ruined it (tried to develop it in the darkroom with the red light on :|)

so instead, some colour shots i just got back today. first 2 were taken with a defective 80-200mm lens that i exchanged the other day

no lighter, not expired.
i don't even know what's going on. the morning after the sharon jones show, every photo came out with some kind of emulsion problem.. considering how much drunkery went on that night, i'm gonna say the camera was jostled a number of times..i just put a new pack in so i'll find out if its the camera or not.

I might need another day or two with the PPA. I tried to get some shots today and the film was getting jammed in the camera, I had to pop the back to fix it, so the whole pack was exposed slightly. the prints are comming out all washed out, so I'll have to get a new pack on monday and try again.

i havent shot with slide film that much... but from what ive heard its real touchy... the colors are more vibrant and you can blow stuff up bigger with higher quality... but its easy to underexpose or over expose... if youre having trouble organizing negatives how would slides be any better??
slide film costs more to process last time i checked... and it has to be sent away unless you go to a real deal processing place..

slides are nice, however they are expensive. I shoot 99% of my photos in digital now, just because it is cost effective, I don't have to buy film or slides. I can shoot as much as I like & re-size my images to any image size depending on the print resolution. plus I don't have to mess around with the processing chemicals. peace zombie

ive shot a few rolls of slide and had good results. fuji velvia is pretty good. the only con i think of to slide film is that agfa is the only company that makes b&w slide film. i think its processed differently too. E6 on 10th st. in ATL processes at a reasonable price.

onesecondple, i've shot a couple rolls of slide film (expired), and not had that much luck with it for night stuff, most stuff was extremely underexposed. the other thing is, expired slide film from what i can remember starts to tint everything blue, and from my experience that's true.

i have a lot of rolls left so i hope to eventually shoot more day photos with it. my advice: make sure it's not expired :p

and simply to whore this, i've started my own photoblog finally, http://www.stolentype.org/

I've shot one roll of 100 speed slide film and one roll of 50. First off, its not going to be any easier to organize, so if thats your reasoning for shooting it, don't. The downside to slide film is as far as i know it only comes in really slow speeds, so you need either reletively bright light or a tripod. It actually worked well for me for night time shots, provided i used a tripod. I love the colors you get from slide film in comparison to normal color film, and if i'm shooting color it will definitely be slide, even if i have to carry a tripod.
Slide film isn't going to make your photography amazing, but it might help make your colors more vibrant. Personal recomendation any time you're working with a new type of film: bracket your shots. Take one photo with the light meter right in the middle, one with it a little lower, one with it a little higher. If you really want the best results, do four or five shots. This way you can see how you should be shooting various types of shots with this type of film and you can figure out the techniques to use to get the best colors, level of exposure, overall photo, etc.
Also, to whoever was saying slide film is expensive to process, both times i've had it done it was like $12 for a 36 roll. Now, granted, i don't shoot normal color film very often, but that doesn't seem too expensive to me. Although i guess you aren't getting prints.

PS: No offense fermentor, this goes for everyone: long exposures while moving your camera are kind of fun when you're just messing around with a digi, but they are not pleasing to look at.

I also think i stayed in that same hotel when i was in philly. Weird.

SEZ YOU!!~ Personally, I love 'em. But I definitly see the newbie factor in them as well and I see where you are coming from. What I did for some of them was set the exposure to 8 seconds, take the picture and wait about 3-4 seconds, then put my hand over the lens and swing the camara around to another point and remove my hand to try get a ghost image effect. Didn't work that well but I still think they're pretty interesting to look at.

The hotel was the Wyndsor. The room was nice, but the bed was hard as rocks and the hotel itself was pretty bootleg, despite it being in such a nice part of Philly.

so after calling and/or visiting 10 different camera stores I finally tracked down some polaroid 669 packfilm for the camera. all they had were twinpacks and it was 46 FUCKING DOLLARS. but I had no choice. I cant believe how fucking expensive that shit is. for 20 lousy exposures. anyhow, should have everything done and ready to be mailed back by friday.

i guess i worded that wrong, the negatives comment didnt have much to do with the slide thing

the cost of processing and the cost of the film is not a big issue for me, because i get it for free as is

i do shoot 99% digi now anyway, and am about to buy a 350d or a 20d canon, but i just thought i would fuck around with slide film for a while, see how it went, that was all, so i guess i just wanted to know experience views on it

I'm 100% Polaroid now.

I don't even think I've touched a 35mm in a year.
