great pics...the only camera i have is a holga which i switch from 120 to 35 mm from time to time..i have a digital videocamera that takes digital stills but theyre crap.

just wondering if people are still into film and still recommend film..cause im planning on getting a fed5. its a russian lomo rangefinder (35mm)only $125 but extra money on film and prints and whatnot.

oh and i dont do my developing or prints..im planning on learning but there was this one lady at the film shop i talked to and she said not to waste my time because its being phased out.

I like takinf a lot of night shots so long exposure is a must.

I use an XT which is pretty much the XTi toned down a bit
you can use bulb for exposures so if you have a tripod you could do some good night shots

when i used to work for my schools (shitty) darkroom and newspaper, i would get free supplies/film but i havent been able to use it since. developing good black and white has just gotten too expensive.

When i had my d80 i had capture nx (i deleted the program when i sold my d80) but i just downloaded the program off a torrent site.

yeah limewire usually just has fakes that give you viruses and spyware
I suggest just downloading the trial from adobe and then getting the serial number from someone and entering it
the trial is for 30 days

I pretty much get all my programs and movies from torrents.
Just download a torrent client like bit torrent, azerus, etc then you can download torrents.
Youll be able to find cs3 right away

In about a month or so, a good friend of mine is gonna be doing a musical performance with a fairly well known artist in the bay area. He wasnt able to tell me much about it but he wanted me to go backstage and take pictures with my Canon XT, although im flattered by this im assuming (because he hast given me details) that its gonna be either:

a.In a club where lighting is tricky and more often than not low.

b.theyre gonna be on stage, since i dont know how close ill be to them im not sure how good shots am i gonna be able to take, since ill be using my only 18-55mm lens.

c.and who knows maybe he just wants pictures for memory purposes and AFTER the concert they will get together for a photo shoot(which would be perfect) because i could take my time and get as close as i need to.

assuming its gonna be scenario A and B what settings should i consider on my DSLR? this includes white Balance, center weighting, F-stop and shutter speed. any advice would be greatly appreciated, and ill be sure to post flicks if all goes as planned. feel free to PM me your advice, thanks everybody and sorry for the lengthy post.

for the post above, bring a flash for sure. if they are just portraits in club lighting, it will be an enormous help. either that or a much faster lens than the 18-55 (assuming it is a 4.5?)

white balance your going to have to experiment with, as every concert/club lighting is different. same with shutter speed. as for fstop, as open as possible.

"Fstopped" is not a photographers term, but I'm not a photographer. I mean by that, as you already explained, has been optimized in photoshop to peak the white and black,and is done right. Looks good.

To any Epson V700 scanner users, I have a query. Got mine about a week ago, and although I've learnt how to scan 35mm, alot of the time the auto crop function on the EpsonScan program used to scan the film either crops the frame or can't read it. What I was more interested in though is learning how to scan full frame - the whole frame including the negative border. Anyone who can give any advice on this, I would be very grateful. A friend of mine filed down his negative carrier, but I'm slightly worried about doing this in case i damage it beyond repair, and also I don't see how it would work anyway because the scanner automatically selects only the contents of the frame, without the border/sprockets etc.

You can't fit canon-mount lenses onto a nikon camera. And i'm pretty sure they don't make canon-nikon adaptors. sorry : /

hit your menu button and the very first option on the very first menu category is quality. click on quality, scroll over to the RAW option and hit SET.

once you shoot some raw shots you'll need to convert them to edit in photoshop. you can do that with the software that comes with your camera.

DO NOT ... I repeat DO NOT try to use that lens on your camera! Even if you can get it to fit, you will probably end up burning out your auto focus motor in your camera. It will be a costly mistake.

Yeah what rage said. Automatic Digital Cameras wont help. On mine, i can change the depth of field, shutter speed, lighting and such. Each camera is different on how to find those setting if they have them. Look on your owner's manuel and see it it has a "shutter speed" setting. If so, all you have to do it slow it down. I have the option to go up to 10 seconds, which is not that bad. I want a camera that can go slower in time, cus im limited to distance.
