The only problem with my pics is that they probably look a lot worse on other people's monitors. I have mine always set on really dim. Like 30% brightness 30% contrast. On higher settings they look too washed out.

these were taken just as they were tearing down the old treasury office building a few blocks away. that thing was cool as shit and I regret not gettting even a crappy photo. ugly 70s architecture at its finest.

I'm assuming it doesnt look anything like that anymore, it might be restored already for all I know, but I'm curious. I cant give you street names but it was downtown, in that area where the office buildings stop, and it slowly turns into the old warehouse/industrial area. it was down the street from the main library, a few blocks south of the river. it was just a few blocks from those huge ass old grain silos that have been thoroughly painted up top. lots of condo development going on last time I was down there.

The Chicago, Milwaukee, and St. Paul Railroad Station at 3rd Street and Washington Avenue in 1901. This is the present day Milwaukee Depot, minus the elaborate 40 foot-high decorative cupola. (The depot has recently been renovated to become a hotel, indoor waterpark, and ice skating complex.)

as do i. They're one of those types of shots that doesn't take much, if any talent, yet they still can look completely sweet. Its all about being in the right place at the right time, or in the case of those pictures, quickly driving to the right place for the right time.

the smaller one I was able to get film for (Its called "time-zero" film, and has sx-70 on the box if that helps you find it) but look as if the camera I got is damaged. I only get one corner of the film to develop, the rest is just brown. the larger fold up polaroid I think needs the peel apart type of film pack. I have my doubts about getting any film for it soon, but I havent researched it yet so dont count it out.

I have the exact same SX-70, i remember finding a gazillion of sites that helped me realised just how dope and fetish this camera is for lots of people...anyway, the film is that 'time-zero' ese mentioned. If you care for Polaroid photo Transfers, the sx-70/time zero film..is the best combo to do it.

CENTER ****CENTER FUCKER!·· 12oz Online Photo Scavenger Hunt ··

On 10.28.03 I'll be creating a thread that emulates 26 Things (http://www.sh1ft.org/26things/), an online photographic scavenger hunt. You can check out over 500 entries here (http://sh1ft.org/26things/cgi-bin/guestbook.cgi).

Instead of 26, we here at 12oz will be posting 7 photos each (1 for each category) [hey, it's a start. If this proves popular, we can up the ante on a future occasion]. The categories that Kilo and I have agreed upon are as follows:
non-artisic graffiti - [self-explanatory]
perveract - [candid girlie shot]
authority - [rules and regulations, authority figures or restrictions]
play - [games, fun, laughter, what people do to relax]
light - [natural or artificial, bright or dim, unique lighting]
footwear - [what do feet wear? what goes on feet]
funk - [once again, self-explanatory]

I know all of the categories won't prove popular with some, but let's go with these to start off. They're easy to work with and provide a mixture of what to take pictures of.

Rules and Regulations - [these are taken straight from the 26 Things (http://www.sh1ft.org/26things/) site]
Film or digital (or both!) is fine.
New or old photographs are accepted - although most people have found it more challenging and fun to go out and take 26 new photographs for the project especially.
Basic editing (cropping etc.) is allowed. Your items are supposed to be photographs, not digital manipulations so don't go nuts in Photoshop.
Present your photos in any way you please that means you, coders!.


I'm posting this to give y'all a week's heads-up, as I hope a lot of people enter photos. The more people that do, the more fun it'll be. Show this post to those on 12oz you think might be interested in participating. And remember, on 10.28.03 I'll be creating that thread.

These are really good. Great use of composition and color on all of them. The serendipity of the 2nd photo is fantastic, especially against the backdrop of the 'walk' signal. The 1st and 3rd photo have a surreal vibe to them... Again, great use of color. Memory and emotion.

that is so weird in all the photos i have ever seen or even taken i have never seen one with the same subject (taken in the same spot by two different ppl) that guy looks like the same one. its neat to see two photos of the same subject from two different angles

yeah, its strange to say the least. you should have seen my face when he showed me that photo. kinda freaked me out. yours is more well composed however. I just stopped and whipped out my digital camera without really thinking about it. too odd to pass up.

If you want to take night and low-light shots, the DSC P10 is NOT the camera for it...

"Further, you can only use camera presets and can't manually adjust shutter, aperture, ISO, etc., for really weird and challenging shots like bulb-exposures."

my scanner is being a twat and fucking with all my photos, so out of ten polaroids, these were the only ones that were scanning at all correctly. Blue tint because it was freezing outside and polaroids get jacked in the cold weather. Edit to say, these pictures look a bit nicer in actuality, so i guess my scanner was being bitchmade for these too...urrggg.

Pilau, i recieved that email from ese saying he couldn't get ahold of you for your address and all that good stuff. So, if you haven't contacted ese, it is possible the camera may be heading my way and skipping you. edit to add a few digital pictures until i get a roll developed tomorrow. I am excited for this roll, its black and white and ten pictures were shot on it almost a year ago. I then had to take out the film, i do believe to have my camera get fixed, and for some reason i just recently decided to use this roll and finish it off. Hopefully it isn't jacked or anything cuz all the new pictures i've taken have seemed to be good, and i'm interested to see the older photos. Now here are those digitals to give you something.

Turns out the camera store has to send it out to get them onto the cd, and because of the holidays i won't get it back till monday the first. those "dust specks" you speak of are probably "hott spots" or hott pixels... its something digi cameras do on long exposure shots... check to see if your camera has a "noise adjustment" its your only hope without using photoshop to edit them out..

arcel, i donno how that happened... i have seen scans that have turned out that way many times.. its usually from the bulb in the scanner overheating... but if its a digital camera shot the only thing i could imagine it being is somewhere along the line in the transfer to your computer something got bumped or unplugged... it could also be something to do with your camera not saving the pictures as fast as you are taking them.. which might cause them to do that.. really im not sure these are just kinda guesses...

also just for clarification, with the f-stops, you want a lower f-stop in low light conditions, and a higher f-stop in bright light correct?

f8 = less light f3.2 = more light (meaning the amount of light that is let into the camera...)


if your camera takes a battery the "auto manual switch" on the lense coulf be for f stop priority(spelling?) meaning it chooses the f stop based on light coming into the lense... im not 100% sure of this though..

as for all that dial stuff on the film winder thing... i havent the slightest... just bring it to a camera shop and ask them about anything you dont know about your camera...

wreck I have the same exact camera. I still have the original manual around here somewhere. But from what i can remember the little dial with color and empty and all that stuff is just so you can remember whats in the camera. Also the manual and auto thing I cant remember. If I find the manual I will scan it or something. Also AE. I would say look in thrift stores. Maybe pawn shops. You can talk pawn shops down probably. But I got my pentax, three lenses, a macro set. Original manual. Leather case. A few extras for 35 bucks. All it needed was a new battery.

i shot 35mm for a long ass time and swore against digital... i just in the last couple of months a digital camera... its a nikon 5700.. at first i was shooting using some of the suggested setting but for a while now ive shot only on fully manual... its really cool and hella easy to pick up because you can see your mistakes right away and correct them by adjusting fstops or shutter speeds.. it has a light meter and all that just like a 35mm... its well worth the money.. if you want to see what it looks like i can post pictures.... and i can also post my old 35mm work too if anyone cares...

I figure I'll post what I've been using the past few years now, it's a Nikon N8008s, with a 35-70mm zoom lens that I had to have sent back to the factory a few years ago to get it fixed, took a few months but they got it right. I just got a look at a moderatly high end digital the other day and it was pretty impressive, but I'm still non-plus'd about the quality of digital prints.

My shits on a Canon EOS 7e with a 28-90, all pictures are shot on 200 slide film and scanned. Tripod for night stuff... It works great. Digitals are cool, if you get the newer ones that can use 35mm lenses and have high mpx count then their just as good as standard film cameras, but cost thousands, and i dont think i would use anything else. I like the thrill of getting film developed and not seeing how they turned out till after. Its better than Christmas!
