Now maybe you'd need flash to rock this, but i'm thinking you could have the images pop up where it says your name and has that image. or would that not work due to sizing on the pictures?
Also, maybe its just my computer, but it seems to be cropping some of the text on the righthand side when i go to some of the sections.
Overall, i like the layout and the photos.

I'm just shy of retard when it comes to flash. I really do like the idea of them opening in the middle, that would be rather nice. But liek you said sizing could be a definate problem and I refuse to have people scroll to see the whole picture. I'm definately going to experiment with the idea.
I was also thinking of inverting the color scheme...I'm not sure.
But regaurdless, I'm tired and my eyes aren't holding themselves open anymore. So all changes will be made tomorrow. '
thanks for the feedback

Seriously though, What would you recommend instead of the pop ups? I don't know flash so a slide show is kinda out of the question. And the pictures can't go any smaller than they already are because they look really crappy(all prints are originally 8x10 and the digi stuff is 5megapixels so it's ungodly huge.) but I can't really make the iFrames big enough for them. I don't know, this sadly is what I've been doing all day.
OK. First off, the problem with popups is that you MUST align each picture seperately. Gna.mean?
Example, you have one large 486x648 image and the pop-up is adjusted for 200x200 to start. This throws the image off vertically and the user may have to manually move the image up more to see it. (I had to)
The 200x200 works for some of your smaller (shorter) images.. i.e. 648x486.
Basically, you should just make the pop-ups at 150x(10-50).
Make sense?
Oh, you're linked back nikkuh.

My apologies to everyone involved with the polaroid pass around for taking so long. I'm finished with all of my work, but because pmb is moving on the 6th i'm going to wait a few extra days and send it to his new address instead of sending it out tomorrow and hoping it makes it to him before he moves. Normally i'd say a week was plenty of time, but i've had far too many problems with the postal service to trust them to get it there quickly.

Any land model with a tripod mount is the best. You'd be suprised at the amount of Land Cameras that were produced WITHOUT one.
The only land model I have with a tripod mount is the 250, and I fucking love it! Black and silver with a leather strap... sounds kinda S&M.

So today I was registering for classes and all that and I am told:
"Oh, you need a 4x5 camera for this class. it's $475 your first semester and $375 your second to rent it. Or you could just purchuse it for $900. We have an amazing school discount from B&H."
So I took out another loan and bought a 4x5 camera.
I know nothing about this camera other than the film is 4x5 and what it looks like. I don't want to wait till september to learn more about it so I'm begining my e-research now. Does anyone have experience with these? And if so, how do you feel about that? Do you prefer large format over medium or standard?
At the school store Ilford bw film is like $1.75 a roll...I win.

will post pics when i get back..
ctrl.. the old ran over the lens trick eh?
if you have an old 35mm(not a fancy new one with the weird connection system) i'd go to a thrift store, sometimes they just have lens lying around for cheap.i actually saw my pentax in a different model with extra lenses for around a $100..and i didn't buy it like a dick..
and the fisheye is an attachment to your original lens.. i think mine was 90$.. also go to smaller camera shops because they usually are cooler and sometimes have a lot of random shit..i dont think i've ever typed that much on 12oz..good luck..
i'm going to buy $1 rolls of expired film..

c+a+d,
jbrsh had most of what I was going to say, down. So, my only suggestion for a 28mm (wide angle) would be to go online.
I bought my 28mm lens at a large locally owned camera shop near me.
It was a Montgomery Ward lens for $89.
Keep in mind some lenses may not fit most cameras. This shop has lots of used equipment and they also organize it by what fits what camera model. In my case there were a TON of lenses for the Minoltas.. wide-angle, telephoto, etc.
Also note: the 28mm lens is NOT a fisheye lens.
If you want a fisheye, I recommend the Phoenix Super Fisheye (http://www.phoenixcorp.com/Lenses/Manual_Focus_Lenses/Super_FishEye_Converter/super_fisheye_converter.html).
I think jbrsh and I were the ones talking about it a while back on this thread and he bought one... seeing as how I can see he used one/it third picture down in his post.
Something cool.. when you use a 50mm lens and the Super Fisheye, your viewing angle is about 152°. When you add a 28mm and the Fisheye, it makes your image view angle 175°!
Pretty fucking sweet.
So in conclusion, try the local shops around you.
I suggest you call ahead and ask for thier inventory AND prices. It doesn't hurt to ask.
If you don't mind buying things online try eBay.
These sites are pretty cool for used equipment:
- B&H (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=NavBar&A=FetchChildren&Q=&ci=2871)
If you're still lost, let me know what model camera you have and I can be more specific.
Off to develop a roll from some recent shows.

I took pics at two recent Finch shows.. in Philly on the 1st and a NJ show on the 4th.
The disposable I used had about 16 shots left on it.. I have no idea what I used it for before, should be interesting.
30 mins and I can pick it up at the store.

ISO Settings
Stephen Canning
12-15-01
Are you wondering what the ISO dial on your camera is used for? Learn to adjust the ISO setting in order to "trick" your camera into giving you the results you want.
_
Your camera's light meter decides how much light should be let into the camera based on what "speed" your film is or the ISO setting of your digital camera's CCD. A fast ISO 800 film will need less light to be properly exposed than a slow ISO 100 film. So, if you are using a fast film, your camera will use a very small Aperture, limiting the amount of light hitting the film. If you are using a slow film such as ISO 100, your camera will use a wide aperture, letting more light hit the film. See our Film Speed article for a more in-depth look at this.
_
With a traditional camera, when you load film into your camera, the film has a special coding on it that will tell the camera what speed the film is. The camera's light meter will then select an appropriate amount of light to let in. In a manual camera, the light meter will suggest the appropriate aperture and shutter speed for the shot, while compact cameras will automatically set them for you._
_
However, it is possible to trick your camera to get creative results. Let's say you want to underexpose your picture a bit. This is something that you would commonly do to create a silhouette against a bright background. Just set the film speed one faster than the actual speed of the film. For example, if you are using ISO 400 film, set the ISO at 800. The camera will then think that it must limit the light to get the proper exposure, so it will choose a narrower aperture. Less light will hit the film and the picture will be slightly darker. After adjusting the ISO, just take the picture as you normally would.
_
This adjustment will affect exposure to the same degree as changing your aperture or your shutter speed one setting: decreasing the speed will let twice as much light hit the film while increasing it will let half as much light hit the film.
_
Digital cameras, although they don't have film, will often have ISO settings. However, changing the ISO setting on your digital camera will not overexpose or underexpose the picture like it would on a film camera. This is because the sensitivity of the camera's sensor is actually changed along with the sensitivity of the light meter. Changing the ISO setting is like putting in a new role of film with the new ISO rating. You can't trick the camera. Instead, use the exposure compensation function, often called E.V.. Plus or Minus 1 E.V. is equivalent to one ISO adjustment.
_
ISO adjustment is easily done on SLR cameras, often with a control built into the shutter speed dial. Many compact cameras will not have adjustable shutter speed or aperture, but will have an ISO setting. This may be the only way for you to adjust exposure and will make your camera much more versatile.
_
Don't forget to set the ISO back to the proper level for the film before you continue regular shooting!
I however will be posting photos after work..

Polaroid Square Shooter 2 Land Camera (Type 88 film)
Polaroid Swinger Model 20 Land Camera (I think this takes actual 120mm film, not sure though...film???)
Polaroid Colorpack II Land Camera (600 film)

All of camera aside from the Automatic 103 have some cheesey little faux leather cases and I also have two 6 packs of flash cubes!
I'd like to use the autmatic 103 and the square shooter but nothing more than shoot a couple pictures.

Haha, I'm actually glad you aren't interested. I went thirft shopping with the lady and found all of these for a buck each and had no real interest in them(other than the auto103...it looks so cool.) and prematurely posted them thinking you'd be interested then I started to see if I could still get film for them and my interest slowly grew into a small obsession. I just ordered a the twin pack of the 667 and a pack of the type 88. I'm expecting them to arrive sometime before friday so probably when you get back there will be pictures up.
For the "swinger" that site you linked said it was "roll film" I was wondering if that's actual roll film as in like 120mm film or if there is some crazy roll polaroid film I am completely unaware of.
Edit: That actually reads "Attention My Pants Pants" and that makes me laugh for some odd known reason.

This is PMB from ilovedrunk's place.
The film in the camera was once again ruined, forcing us to spend the ends and buy a new pack. There was an extra pack of film that came in the package, but it wasn't with us when we realized the film in the camera was ruined, so we didn't try it to figure out if it was dead, too. This could become a problem if every person has to spend money to replace the film. I've yet to speak with Alan, but he'll probably have more to add. The package will be leaving here shortly. ilovedrunk will be sending it off, so he'll let y'all know when it's on the road again.

Haha, has a couple good ones though:
Do: Editing …because there is nothing worse than a bad edit. There are plenty of good picture-takers out there, but what makes a really good photographer is the ability to edit the million photos you took down to the 20 or 30 that make sense. They'll show the rest of it in a retrospective when you're old or dead and people give a shit about every little fart you ever mustered.

Well, I was considering doing another a few weeks ago, but the response from the last one was so lame that I decided against it. I think only 3 or 4 people added their pictures after me. But if there's interest in doing another, I'd love to. The only problem (from my point of view) is that I have to have all of the pictures completed by a set date, whereas everyone else usually starts their pictures then ... and then never finish and post.
I posted a thread (http://www.12ozprophet.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=57538)about it.

PantsPants, the film for the Swinger (20 Series) is no longer produced in large amounts like the packfilm still is. I've heard there are still places online to purchase the correct rollfilm, but I have no idea where...

Unfortunately, 120mm film won't work with the 20 Series cameras, if you find a 30 Series:

Thrift shops of all varieties are great gold mines for photo treasures.
Mostly you'll find some plastic 35mm cameras and some flash bulbs to a foreign camera. One in 10 might have some variation of Polaroid treasure. Look in your local Yellow Pages for a listing of "Thrift Shops", "Second Hand Stores", "Flea Markets", and so on..
Ask around, friends, family, neighbors.. You never know how willing people are to give away a camera they never use that has been sitting in thier attic for decades!
If all else fails.. eBay.
Once you get ahold of a camera or two, let us know and we can help you use it.
Woops, I just saw your Colorpack camera..
Sweeeeeet, you got an SE (Special Edition). If you ask me all the best color combinations come from the SE models. I found an SE model of a 600 Land Camera in Montreal.. It has a sliver/blue button. Fancy.

My mistake, it was used at my drunken party last Monday. A co-worker took it home in a hungover panic. She called me later and asked why she had 3 cameras instead of 2.
I told her to develop the camera and I'd pay her back. That was a week ago, it should be set.

Ok, for the Pass Around:
As I see it now, the PPA is ready (or soon ready) to be sent to SteveAustin.
I take it that the packaging might be a little crappy. I have no idea how to compensate for whatever the film is going through with shipping from A to B. We don't know if the film is being destroyed from heat, lasers, handling... or what.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to better pack the PPA? Does coating the inside of the box in tin foil do anything to block the x-ray process.
My guess is that that's illegal anyways.
Poo on a stick. I need to know what's damaging the film each time it's sent out.
As SA suggested if this continues, each person could (and may have to) purchase a new pack of film (667 or 669 packfilm).
Are you guys cool with this?
The upside would be, more use with the camera and more photos for yourself AND more to post in the book itself.
DON'T FORGET: you CAN use other Polaroid materials in the book on your pages.

Self-developing (integral film)
Packaged 10 prints to a pack.
Actual image area: 4" x 3" (10.2 x 7.6 cm)
330-series AutoFilms are used in photographic equipment having a Polaroid CB-33 back. As far as I know, there were no general-purpose cameras available which use this film 'natively'. NOTE: You can think of AutoFilm as being much like an "extra-large" version of Spectra or 600 film.
Type 339:
Produced: 19??- 2003 ? / Original Price: $??.??
Film speed: ASA 640
Color
Has self-contained battery to power film back and/or camera.

more talk.
i can buy new film if i have to.
aluminum foil would block the xray, but it might make the package look really suspicious.
as much as we'd all like to think our government is on top of things, they are not.
the post office is not xraying [all] packages.
i can pretty much guarantee this.
i know some post office people.
it may have happened travelling overseas, but nothing is being xrayed from point AtoB in the continental u.s.
wrapping the film and the camera itself (as opposed to the entire box) in foil wouldn't be a bad idea.
-Rage-
08-23-2004, 03:44 PM
This is what makes no sense.
The camera went from Me to Tesseract overseas with no problem at all. The film arrived in perfect shape.
Then it's sent back overseas to Chupa and it's dead.
Then it's sent again, DOMESTIC to PMB/ild, and it's dead again.
I have NO IDEA how it keeps getting killed.
PMB and I did some research and discovered that ANY film under ISO-800 is ok to scan multiple times.
The Polaroid film, 669, is only ISO-80.
Is someone in the postal office taking a blowtorch to the package everytime it's on the move?!
WTF!
!@#$%
08-23-2004, 04:47 PM
so, it's the film that's dying, or the camera, or both?
i don't think xrays could kill a battery.
we could have the thing insured as well.
at least that way, new film would be replaced.
apparently battery powered items are classified as restricted by USPS.
technically, we weren't even supposed to send that thing internationally.
i dunno.
i'll look into it more.
-Rage-
08-23-2004, 05:44 PM
A) Only the packs of film are dying. Something is causing them to produce nothing but a blob of colored nothingness.
This is caused by x-rays, heat and aged film.
B) Having a battery connected to the camera shouldn't cause it to nuke the packs of film. Both IN the camera and the seperately wrapped pack of extra film.
C) Why wouldn't an object with a battery be insurable?
If it IS posible to insure the whole package, and I think it is, then we should totally do it.
The total value of the package should be estimated at about $100.
1 Polaroid Camera = $10.
2 Packs of undeveloped Polaroid Film = $40
1 Art Book = $50
It shouldn't cost more than 5 bucks to insure it.
I have a feeling that if it's insured, it isn't scanned OR it isn't scanned as much.
...
woops.
Come to think of it I did Insure the package when I sent it to Tesseract, battery and all....
I insured it for $50. and it only cost an extra $1.85.
Maybe that's how it escaped a deadly film mushing virus.
!@#$%
08-23-2004, 06:16 PM
i'd say heat may be a likely culprit.
post office trucks are not insulated, so they won't cost shit, this means that during the winter, they get frozen and during the summer they get cooked.
maybe insuring the package gets it handled better and maybe placed on an insulated truck.
dunno.
but, they obviously pay more attention to the care of the package.
i don't think battery powered stuff can't be insured, i was just saying it was restricted. what this means for us, i don't know exactly. they might just want to put an extra sticker on it. they might also say that to get them out of trouble when batteries get ruined in unisured packages.
i'll ask my friend whats up with insured packages, what they do or do not go through on the way.
aside from all that, we've learned the hard way.
so, when i get it and have to pass it on, i will insure it, and let's get that going for the rest on the list as well.

My thoughts exactly.
I've sent a message to ilovedrunk to insure it on its way to SteveAustin.
I think he'll be sending it out sometime this week.
I'd advise everyone to know if your local camera/photo shops have Polaroid packfilm in advance. So, if the film in the camera IS damaged, you can get a new pack right away and keep the PPA moving.
from the same night as those last pictures i posted, also thanks for the suggestions and comments...

I need advice
What should I have done to make this turn out right? Or what should I do in similar lighting situations in the future? I just figured out how to use the light meter, although not completely by the looks of it.
ilovedrunk
08-28-2004, 01:11 AM
my two cents would be to bracket... and take notes like whoah when youre learning to bracket... i usually take one image set to where the light meter tells me things are all perfect... then another image at one f-stop higher, and another image at one f stop smaller... youll have three images to pick the best of... the light meter only reads the bright light in an image like the one you took above...
i take it you want more detail or depth in the shadows??? bracketing would probably help you in a situation like that... yea its more pictures and less overall difference in images per roll of film.. but after doing a few rolls like that youll learn a lot..
you can also bracket using the shutter speed.. but i usually do it as stated above..
get one of those little notepads and write down the settings you used for which number image you took... (unless youre using a digi like whoah)
ramble
ilovedrunk,
Thanks a lot, I'll need to do some research to figure out what you're talking about but I appreciate it. This is the first camera I've ever owned. I bought a Nikon FM10 on ebay about 6 months ago and didn't really start taking pictures until recently, so my knowledge on this subject is nil. Now I have some key words to look up.
ilovedrunk
08-28-2004, 03:04 AM
sorry man "f-stop" is the lil ring thing you can turn on the lense and the "shutter speed" is this

First off, i actually liked how you lit that photo so that the branches and such are really dark but if you're looking to make those have more light and detail what you would want to do in that situation is set the light meter so it is a little high. Because the camera is looking into the bright light it just reads that and by having the light meter a little higher it shouldn't over expose the shot, but should just make the brights even brighter and it should help bring some light/detail to the dark parts.
Bracketing is also a really good idea to get a feel for different situations and how you should light them. I still bracket shots every once in awhile if i really like that shot and i think it would turn out if i did it multiple ways. That way you get to see the shot with different lighting as opposed to just getting the roll developed and thinking, fuck, i should've had that a tad bit darker, it would've looked a ton better.
Here's a couple more from that same day.

...attention polaroid project crew...
the package has left me and is on its way
to steve austin... i insured the package like
i was supposed to.. i even asked the lady
(who was very nice) if there was some way
it could be shipped without being exposed
to too much heat... she said no that it would
only be in transit for like 2 days and it should
be fine..
im sorry i took so damn long.. i know i suck..
