Alright, I know there's been a few threads on this already, but after digging through them, they seemed kind of a mess. Obviously, the major cities are really important, but if you know a real cool shop in some obscure town list anyways.
We're not looking for the crap mall stores that might have a mag or two and some streaks or the run of the mill shop with nothing special, but rather real slick clothing, skate, toy, and gallery spots that are worth seeking out if you happen to make it to that city.
Anyhow, please keep the format somewhat organized, and if you've visited the store yourself, please write a line or two about what they had that made it so slick, ie- product, interrier design, etc.
Example:
360 TOY GROUP
239 Eldridge Street
NY, NY 10002
646.602.0138
*Gallery/store of limited edition toys and art (Michael Lau, Kaws, Futura, etc)
-------------------------------------------
UNION
172 Spring Street
NY, NY 10012
212.226.8493
*Hipster boutique with lots of hard to find product like LE dunks, Maharashi, 2K, etc.

clothes to kicks to montana cans. Let me know if you want a full report.
if you can, please take some photos. (at least of the outside if they wont let you photograph the inside. also, if you can report back their full address and phone number, as well as a brief description of what they carry, etc... that would be swell.
thanks.
btw, are they the only store of this type in the area, or are there other noce shops around town?

For London Sneaker Heads ...
Courtesy of http://www.sneakerfreaker.com:
"The latest, but easily the greatest, is Foot Patrol. These guys know sneakers...fact. With UK sneaker guru Fraser Cooke at the helm, this store is the place for sneaker connoisseurs. The interior is truly bizarre with all the sneakers held in cages. You’ll find kicks from Supreme, Tas, Maad Foot, Visvims, limited Reeboks and super limited Nikes like the recent Escape series or all the HTMs."

Accessible from Westbahnhof, the 18 Stassenbahn and the U3 U-bahn
They speak German and English and have a pretty good selection of skate stuff, accessories, and have a pretty good stock of Montana Paint, (for the paint you have to ask them for it, it is in a locked room). Since I moved to Vienna it has been the only shop where I have found you can get paint at decent prices. 3 to 4 euros a can.

yeah scrap yard has some cool shit, but definitly don't be one of those kids that chills there all day itching to meet someone to get in his book!
yeah i had the displeasure of being dragged to patricia fields by a club/drug/ sound factory obsessed freind. he then insisted we goto "bang-bang". if ever in my life i wanted to burn a clothing store, it was when i went there!

LONDON
the brixton shop
it doesn't have a name, not that I'm aware of. go to brixton station, turn right and walk for about a minute to get to brixton market, and the shop is in the indoor market, on the furthest alley away. The indoor market is very small so if you wander around for ten minutes you'll find it.
They charge the least of any shop in london (£2.50 for 400ml montana) they also have the best selection, you can get paint, ink, markers etc. They also sell hoodies and british hip hop.
4 star general
directly opposite camden town station, on the left. the prices they charge are obscene, £3.50 for montana?!!!, but it's a graf shop, so I thought I'd mention it. oh yeah the guy who runs the shop is a bit fucked up.
there's also graphotism in clapham junction but I don't know much about that shop.
gfreshsushi
10-22-2003, 05:49 AM
i went to (what i'm pretty sure was) the graphotism shop when i was in england and they had everything you could ever want at medium to high prices, but it was in the middle of nowhere and i was traveling by public transit, so i only got a few pens and streaks. granted that was five years ago, but usually stores don't get cheaper over time.
pearl art supply is a national chain in the usa, and they have tons of shit you might want. i know they have locations in both nyc and sf, i'm assuming elsewhere.
luggage store gallery on market at 7th in sf has hosted several twist shows, as well as a recent os gemeos venture. always good, but go during daylight after the show has already been open for a couple days to avoid the hipster crowd. oh, and it's free.
in the east bay, check out 510 skateboarding on dwight and telegraph in berkeley. skate goods and clothing, plus a window display that showcases different artists. bigfoot had a thing in there, but most of the shit is local kids that have a knack for art or design.
east bay center for creative reuse on san pablo at ashby in berkeley is a great spot for you arty types. remember your kindergarden teacher who always made you do projects with tons of crazy knick knacks? this iswhere she bought all of it. they have a bookcase filled with individual vinyl letters, an oil drum filled with zippers, etc. usually they've got mops or bingo dabbers around, but you gotta dig for em. dirt fucking cheap too. i bought a gallon of paint, unopened, some stamps, a few rolls of blank stickers, and some other miscellaneous crap for about $8. all the crap is donated, the people who work there are volunteers, and all the proceeds go to the berkeley school district.
tons of art supply stores in the area, just gotta check em out.
hope this is helpful...

Some good places to consume in Boston, MA. Don't really have address specifics.
Movies -
Video Underground, Centre St. Jamaica Plain -
All sorts of cult films and local films as well as a few mainstream titles. THE place to rent from if you are a film buff. They'll order anything for you.
Viper Video, Commonwealth Ave, by Washington St. Brighton -
Tons of terrible titles interspersed with the few good films. An extensive vintage 80s/90s porn selection, buyable. Cheap rental prices, too. 1.00 Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Coolidge Corner Theater, Harvard St. Brookline -
Great Non-Profit Independant film house. Good midnight shows on weekends.
Art -
Pearl Art, Mass Ave. Cambridge -
I know chains shouldn't be mentioned but if you want Belton or Molotov this is the only place you can get it in this city. Be ready to shell out 8 dollars a can though (not for me sorry). This is probably the largest art store in the city, also.
Books -
Harvard Book Store, Mass Ave. Cambridge -
Lots of good intellectually stimulating books about intellectually stimulating topics, populated by intellectually stimulated people. Real academia stuff and a lot of "liberal media" books. Not a bad thing.
Bars -
Hahahahahahahaha.
Music -
Funky Fresh Records, Roxbury -
Hard to find but they got a ton of bling bling Hip Hop and local shit.
Smash City, Newbury St. Boston -
Dunno if these guys are still open but they have a lot of used cds, lps, and 7 inches.
Cheapo Records, Mass Ave, Cambridge -
Tons and tons of records.
Welcome to Boston, now get out.
:P

Don't forget TLA Video (http://www.tlavideo.com/company/aboutus.cfm?c=0&v=1&sn=1) .
An award-winning group of 6 video stores in Philadelphia and New York City, the stores are renowned for their vast and varied selection along with a knowledgeable and dedicated staff. In Philadelphia, where TLA operated the city's premiere repertory movie theatre from 1981-87, the name is synonymous with movies that are hip, foreign, alternative and otherwise not in the mainstream. Our stores serve thousands of people weekly in their quest for the perfect video - served up, of course, with a smile and a flair for the unconventional.

I shop for more than just markers and toys, so here's a broad spectrum of the goods.

Holy shit...
Toronto kicks the ass of pretty much any city I've ever seen.... And to think toronto isn't even the "coolest" city in canada.... holyeee shit....
<KEY3>

People might say that some other city is 'more cool'
or whatever than toronto, but there is no denying that Toronto
IS the cultural hub of canada.
It's like saying the NYC is not the apex of american cities.

In Winnipeg, the best place to go is URBAN BAKERY, they sell graff markers, caps, videos, dvd's, montana paints, meanstreaks, lowrider bikes, turntables and records, clothing and bongs and pipes.
Amazing place, everybody is so mellow, good atmosphere, I dont know the adress but all you have to do is go eastbound on Portage Avenue until you get to Portage Place Shopping Mall and is right across the street.

You'd be suprised. Canada is way more 'hip' that the states by population.
Sure there's backwater places up here too, but think that there's about a hundred million
more clueless yokels in your country than in mine. No offence of course.
Sure there's burbs and sure there's farms but most major city in canada is 'cooler' than the US perspective would lead you to think.

Brighton is 50 miles south of London, on the coast.
[img]http://b0b.dust.cx/shop145.jpg'>
One 40 Five (http://www.one40fivestore.com), on Sydney Street (http://www.streetmap.co.uk/newmap.srf?x=531245&y=104753&z=1&sv=sydney+street&st=6&tl=Sydney+Street,+Brighton,+BN1&searchp=newsearch.srf&mapp=newmap.srf) just down from the train station. Sells Silas and all those James Jarvis figures, few fresh trainers (including custom one offs) and all manor of trendy labels.
[img]http://b0b.dust.cx/minky.jpg'>
Minky is on the same street (tel: 01273 604490) and rammed full of uber trendy clothes. You will spend serious amounts of money here.
[img]http://b0b.dust.cx/shopec.jpg'>
Eclectic Threads is a Maharishi stockist, they sell rare trainers sometimes too. Never really been in there, but is the sort of shop for this thread. Located a little way down from the two above, in
Regent Street (http://www.streetmap.co.uk/newmap.srf?x=531168&y=104445&z=1&sv=531250,104250&st=4&ar=Y&mapp=newmap.srf&searchp=newsearch.srf) (no not that Regent Street).
[img]http://b0b.dust.cx/shopjell.jpg'>
Couple of doors down from the above is Jell-o. Uber trendy shop, loads of exclusive(expensive) Maharishi, I-Saw, Bape, etc etc stuff.
That series of roads is called The Laines and is full of boutiques and indy shops selling all sorts of interesting stuff. Definately worth spending a few hours wondering around, after spending time on the beach but before going out drinking and clubbing (which Brighton is well known for).

For Vancouver guy... if your talking about Vancouver, B.C, Canada then I can kinda help you. Theres a place in New Westminister three blocks from New Westminster skytrain station, check Yellow pages when in town for details. They sell german Montana, some caps, and a few markers. Theres also a place called Hip Hop Connection in Metrotown Center which is atached right to the Metrotown skytrain station. They sell Spanish montana and otr markers, fairly expensive shit on both counts though. New West store is cheaper, and they'll probably cut you a deal if you buy big.
SEPERATE QUESTION>>
I used to buy all my ink from bombing science, but they turned gay and stopped selling shit. Anywhere in Vancouver CANADA, or online in CAD that sells Marsh or anything. The two local stores I know of never carry ink and I'm fresh out. Anybody?

London Shop Review
Maharishi (Not Pictured)
Definitely the hidden gem of the shopping side of things. An amazing store located on a really exclusive street (nestled amongst a huge Paul Smith store), that emphasizes it's exclusiveness by the fact that your greeted by an older doorman/security guy in a formal button-up dark suit (a couple more also present within the store). Lots of very helpful and polite employees decked out mostly in Maharishi and other cool brands (Supreme, Bape, Dunks, etc), that seemed genuinely aware, and into, what's cool. Every inch of the store is carefully considered and mainly revolves around a Jungle type theme (More Thai/Vietnamese than African). Lots of examples of the Maharishi color pallet (shades of olives with a pop of bright orange), as well as tasteful use of the Maharishi camo motif. Lots of stuff to look at - glass cases full of carefully displayed exclusive toys, books, cans of spraypaint) as well as a larger than expected assortment of Maharishi clothing. A narrow (Easily missed) hallway in the back of the top floor leads to a small gallery/shop of designer toys. The staircase, in the middle of the shop leading down, is lined by flush-mounted glass cases with more exclusive toys/books/paint and leads under a large exotic tree that leans over the stairs and bottom floor, emphasizing the jungle decor. Bottom floor is carefully crammed with lots more (mainly male) Maharishi merchandise and large glass cases of more exclusive toys and books. Again at the back, there's a somewhat disguised hallway that opens to a fair sized art gallery displaying a series of Andy Warhol prints, as well as a large selection of Subway Art era photos by Henry Chalfant. Prices range from expensive to very expensive (Almost ridiculously expensive considering the poor exchange rate), but the merchandise is all highest quality materials, construction, and obviously, design. Though there were quite a few people shopping, it seemed like there were at least one employee per person with yet another employee walking by with merchandise, or hovering attentively along side (Vibe definitely upscale, and not overwhelming or pushy). Counter at the checkout was made of glass and packed with dozens of Kubrick toys for sale, many of which were exclusive Kubrick vs Maharashi collaborations, as well as neat stacks of postcards/flyers for Maharashi (Designed/printed in the same aesthetic as their store/product/packaging). Even their shopping bags are freshly designed and manufactured to a far above-average quality. If there's a single store not to miss when visiting London, this is it.

London Shop Review
Paul Smith (Not pictured)
I'm mentioning this shop simply because the product and space were so nice, and seemed to be an influence to many of the trendy urban shops I've seen. Located on the same street as Jones and Maharishi in a real upscale and trendy part of town. Store has that classic, 'London Gentlemen Shop' feel to it that's so well done, it almost makes Rivington Club in NYC look like a cheap copy. They also seem to include a random scattering of glass encased books and limited exclusive merchandise not made by Paul Smith that's clearly meant to position themselves in a particular context. Makes me wonder if they started that sort of thing or if they're following a cue from all the other hipster urban shops.

Magma Books (Not pictured)
Among the best book stores I've been to. Similar in offerings as Zakka, but even more focused on trendy new and exclusive releases. Mostly focused on graphic design and graffiti/street art, as well as cool artist books and independent releases. Some designer toys, and t-shirts, as well as narrow selection of really good magazines (Lodown, and lots of glossy couture fashion magazines.

Jones (Not pictured)
High-end, trendy shop somewhat reminiscent of Atrium in NYC, except not as stocked, and less 'club-like' atmosphere. Lots of premium denim (Rogan, PRPS, other euro brands), as well as trendy t-shirts from trendy brands I've never heard of. No street wear at all. Located on the same upscale street as Maharishi (Few doors down).

My Trainers (Not Pictured)
Run of the mill, mom and pop type sneaker store, that happens to have a really good selection of sneakers. Really good dunk offering including a glass case with a bunch of limited release Dunk SB's available in limited sizes and for inflated rates. The shop doesn't have a trendy vibe at all, and if anything is kind of a budget independent shop, that stumbled upon a trend. Store is relatively tiny and packed with tourists buying random styles of sneakers. Located up the street from Stussy.

Offspring (Not pictured)
This seems to be the main competition to Size? except with a focus purely on sneakers (Also a chain store, but less big budget). They had a pretty wide selection and lots of color ways available, as well as a random rare find mixed in (probably more for positioning since they never had multiple sizes of them). Pretty good dunk offering, and even had some Prada sneakers for sale. Seemed kinda mainstream (always on a major shopping street), despite efforts to look 'aware' and cool (Employees were wearing supreme, bape, etc).

Bond Int'l (Not pictured)
Small shop on a side street off a busy shopping district (around the corner from Size? and Puma and pretty close to Bape and Hideout) that mainly stocks their own house brand (Bond Int'l), as well as a fair selection of Stussy t-shirts (More the roots stuff than the branded hipster stuff). Shop and merchandise has kind of a Raga/Roots feel mixed with urban niche. Other merchandise included the standard issues of Graphotism found in almost every urban shop, as well as a few other lesser known European Graff magazines, and a fair amount of t-shirts from Silas. *a few dozen yards from the Crooked Tongues office.

Foot Patrol (Not Pictured)
Tiny shop in the typical hipster japanese design style found a couple doors in from a tiny darkened alley that anyone would easily walk past (A short walk up the street from Bond Int'l, Bape, and Hideout). They had a very small selection of merchandise mostly displayed inside wire cages (mainly obscure adidas and nike running - no dunks). Between the size of the shop, their displays, and the 'cooler than you' attitude I sensed from their two employees, the store seemed more like a status display for the owner than a business.

555 Soul
This was a bit of a surprise that I stumbled across. Small shop with a more upscale feel (less sporty) than their NYC shop. Stocked all the current 555 Soul merchandise and little, if anything, else. Shop had a few people in it, but also happened to be in a real touristy area. I sort of slipped in and out, so no comment on staff. *I also happened to notice a fair amount of 555 Soul sponsored party flyers and most the cool shops.

Duffer of St. George
Fairly large shop with a real upscale feel to it, despite all product being essentially t-shirts (street wear). Mainly stocks it's house brand (Duffer of St. George, and a couple sublines), plus a surprising amount of Alife stuff (button down shirts, hoodies, crewnecks, t-shirts), and a little bit of PRPS. Also stocked a couple toys and some magazines/books (also mostly Alife projects or stuff you'd expect them to stock). Staff was extremely polite and friendly. *Off a main shopping strip around the corner from Offspring and Foot Locker. **They also had an upscale shoe store (no sneakers) directly across the way.

Stussy
Nice clean shop packed with a wide selection of Stussy merchandise including a glass case with their own toys (almost seemed more stocked than the NYC store, but probably because it was a good bit smaller space). They also had a small selection (half hearted) of sneakers (mainly dunks and hurrache's). Prices seemed kinda high even for Stussy (Poor exchange rate for the dollar made pricing outrageous). Cool space with a real cool sliding door taht activates when you put your hand on a black hand print on the glass. Store had a couple Japanese tourists browsing that somehow didn't seem like a coincidence. Staff seemes to kinda just ignore us.

SIZE?
Kinda commercial, and obviously big budget backed chain store. Carries a large selection of sneakers with an emphasis on trendy styles and somewhat exclusive color ways. Stocked Nike Lasers in plexi-cases (Not for sale) to further push the impression that they know what's up. Also stocked a varied assortment of fashion and graffiti mags, as well as a couple trendy books on similar subjects. Store also has a separate section (usually basement) that focuses on apparel and more edgy independent shoe brands. Mostly niche brands and pseudo punk/indy style shirts, as well as a small wall's worth of OneTrueSaxon t-shirts. Stores are usually packed and staff is busy running around trying to keep up.

HIDEOUT
Three doors down from Bape's Busy Workshop. Easy shop to walk past since signage is subtle and there are no real window displays (Plus London is crammed with cleanly designed little boutiques). Really Japanese-style minimal design, but with a warmer (rather than sterile) feel. Very small selection of handpicked merchandise with an obvious attention to detail over status or brand recognition. Some accessories, small shoe selection (casual style, no sneakers), and a fair selection of Good Enough and Neighborhood (Japanese brands). Very friendly staff.

BAPE BUSY WORK SHOP
Relatively small shop, stocking only Bape merchandise. Very minimal and sterile Japanese style interior with multiple flush mounted video displays and plexi-glass encased t-shirt display same as those shown in the Wonderwall book of the original Japanese Bape shops. All shoes were out of stock in all sizes (£115), as well as most popular t-shirt sizes (£50). There was, however, a fair supply of cut & sew items and denim (was not salvaged denim and though they didn't look cheap, didn't really look high quality either. Possibly a step or two above Supreme denim) all in the £110 - £240 range. They also had a fair amount of accessories (wallets, key chains, digital camera cases, etc all with the infamous ape head), and a small stock of Baby Milo crewnecked sweatshirts for infants and kids (£50 - £70). Deliveries are received from Japan on most Saturdays. Very friendly staff.

*Other notables include Foot Locker and JD Sports which are the equivelent of Foot Locker and Champs here in the states. They have the same set up and about the same amount of merchandise, but mostly different styles, or different color ways of the same styles they sell domestically. Not sure if it's routine, but Foot Locker seemed, in general, a bit cheaper than the USA versions, and we're stuffed with people buying product. Another chain store worth checking out is Office, which is similar to Offspring, but a little more big budget, and with more regard to casual/dress shoes.

I'm going to NYC fairly soon and i would really appreciate if someone would list some more record stores that carry a good selection of hiphop vinyl and how to get there by subway. I would also like to know about stores that carry paint that covers well and has a range of colors for cheap, or what store carries montana for the cheapest. I'm only going to be there for a few days and I must spend my time and cash wisely so any help is greatly appreciated.

Winnipeg:
Being a tourist over here.. I have been to the Urban Bakery, but I am a bit disapointed.
1) the lack of spray paint colours
2) They only sell montana, no true colorz or belton or any other brand
3) They seem to be the monopoly for graffiti spray paint (montana) in Winnipeg, so they charge over $7 a can and they wont include a tip with it... so you're spending an extra 50 cents for one of those black outlines.
I recomend canadian tire for krylon, armor coat, but mainly tremclad.
second i would recomend walmart for the color vizion, krylon, and what ever else that is cheaper then 7-8 bucks a can.
Props to the Winnipeg locals, I like some of what I've been seeing...

Name, Location, Crew affiliation, Year i began Breakin'
Boris "Swift Rock" Leptin, Kiel (North Germany), "Battle Squad", "Enorm in Form", 1983
First time i‘ve seen Breakin.
The first time I really saw b-boyin‘ was a documentary on TV. The programm showed Graffiti and B-Boyin‘ in NY, the Rock Steady Crew in its old original cast, how they were breakin‘ and doin‘ their footwork at the basketball court! My Dad saw it on TV and called me to check it out. He thought I would go crazy for it. But I didn‘t really register what was going on there, and I just forgot about it. I realized a little later when I saw other Dancers on other TV-Shows what was going on, then I knew what they were doing and thought I want to do that, too!
How the scene was like in Germany when i first started
At the time when I started, it was like almost everybody was breakdancin‘ or had somethin‘ to do with Hip Hop, for every type of person. Hip Hop had something to offer. If it was writin‘, Mcin‘, Djin‘, Beatboxin‘ or just b-boyin‘ (b-girlin‘), Popin‘, Lockin‘! Since it was a fresh trend from the USA that came over here, and most of them were just bad, or tried to do it well, but the people were bored with it real fast. They saw just novice dancers, it was an overflow on bad niveau.1985 was whe the whole thing disappeared. Only a few in each city kept going, but they thought they would be the only dancers left in Germany.
My influences, inspirations!
There are to many people and things to list all of them, but here‘s a couple of people I want to mention who played a major part in all of the this:
In the beginnin‘ the Rock Steady Crew (from the SixStep to Headspin I got from Crazy Legs) But only watched him on TV. He has the nicest Six Step I know. Then Prince Ken Swift in Wildstyle, how he is on the PVC in the Park doin‘ Poprocks and the footwork and the footwork in the whole Movie inspired and rocked me. NYCity Breakers for powermoves (the ones who stand out Pex, Little Lep, Ice-Ice) and the Dynamic Rockers.
Later on it was Maurizio, Emilio from Italy, I got to know them back in 1986 that‘s how they became members of the "Battle Squad". Brian from Manchester Street Machine (England) he became my Mentor for Top-Rock and footwork. Also Paulo, he was in 1985 doing Flair Airtwists and Flair Stand still in the Air without touching ground and changed directions. He has a Handycap in his leg, that‘s why he specialized more in Powermoves. He moved everything away. I always think about it when I was injured on my leg, to hold my leg still and just practice wolf, turtles, flairs, 90s were I don‘t have to bend my knee.
Orko I‘ve seen on the Olympics on TV and tried to turn like himÉ Like Little Alex from New York City Breakers at the Reagan-Appearance in white.
Around 1988 the French like Aktuel Force or Paris City Breakers their elegant style of dancing, and how they did their Steps in a total different manner.
That influenced me. The Swiss, Frank whom he and I brought this crew to Live in 1989 or Zed who‘s down with the Spartanic Rockers. His Steps were wicked. The Throw Down Rockers from Sweden Second 2 None from England. And of course the people who were there from the start. The Rock Steady Crew when I met them in NY. Because of the "RSC" I started to dance.
The man who made it all possible who showed us around and introduced us to the people, and dragged you to every practice spot in NY to show them that B-Boys in Europe are present, was Quickstep. He never really quit to dance, and damn you could tell. Elbowtracks and Donuts just nice.
Fabel, who answered like a Hip Hop Teacher all our questions we had, and those were not just a few. We had to catch up on a lot of things.
And of course Storm, we always pushed and inspired each other. There‘s not a place or space were we didn‘t practice or danced.
As I said it‘s so many and there‘s always new ones, I probably forgot some of them SORRY!!!
How i do get my name, "Swift Rock"
When I started I was little and fast. That‘s why the people called me "Swifty". Later on as I got older and grew a bit more I just took the "Y" of Swift. Because it just didn‘t go along with me any more. Then ZEB-Rocksky started to call me "Swift la Rock" To That time T-La Rock was out. Later on I made out of the name "Swift Rock"
My style of dance.
I think others could be describin‘ that better than me. I can only explain what‘s important for me and what I look for. For me the movement, that it all goes smoothly into each other. And it has to have harmony. That‘s important. I have to feel good about it not just looking cool but to really feel that move. I don‘t like small Steps or moves all the time, or moves and in between you throw in a Toprock. That only works when you can‘t connect it into all the other things. It only works once in a while. I try to do Steps and combine them with Powermoves. Just to show that every thing fits well together. To give the Powermoves and Steps my own little twist. Only then you develop new things and help to further more the cause.
About Battle Squad.
1989 I travelled to Switzerland to check out the scene. I met Frank there, who had that whole B-Boy-Flavor down. But he wasn‘t motivated since there are not many dancers who really were committed. And I thought it would be sad if he would quit just because of that. So I said to him, let‘s form a Crew who goes to every Jam and battle all the breakers who are there. It wasn‘t to make us look cool or anything. It was just at that time there were only a few breakers around anyway. It was more to get to know each other better. The battles were mostly friendly and respectful. It was just to check out the other breakers. And what‘s better way then a battle? Some people gave you props for your moves, others just dissed you. No Matter what moves you were bringin‘. Everythin‘ to them was dirt. You could judge right away the persons attitude thru that. The core of the crew were more like that some of them quit and then they did not quit. That was quite stressful Storm came to the crew right after we were a crew. Before I was dancin‘ in Storms crew "The Unique Rockers". Then there was Maurizio and Emilio with that combination, us four, we wanted to show that we exist! B-Boyin‘ in Europe is still alive! We did that till we came to New York in 1991. Since then every thing got weird. Maurizio went to the Rock Steady Crew and from that point on we were only three guess it shouldn‘t be! Later Storms little brother "Speedy" joined the group. Since he was always hanging around with us and was on the same page as us, and... yeah... he was and is still burnin‘!!! The contact with Emilio got lost. I don‘t want to go any further. Personally it‘s really sad, since I valued him as friend and as dancer anyway!
Some of the best battles I‘ve ever seen!
That was 1986 in Italy. I just met Maurizio, Emilio, Paulo and many more. That was a official Dancecompetition. Worldwide representation. Well that night was practice and there came this group who looked like wicked street breakers and wanted to battle everybody who was gonna enter that contest. Everyone stopped practicin‘ and every dancer got into the middle of the hall and started to battle. This was a masacar, because they didn‘t think that there would be any good dancers! Paulo came to the circle and he had a backpack on. He was pulled into the circle without even taken of his backpack. He did a wicked combo and rocked it!! The battle was on and it went on. The level people were puttin‘ on in Europe to this time, was high. Because people were doin‘ - except multiple Twists one after the other- just everything. After the battle, it equalled itself out, we started to practice together. Everywhere in the city, people were dancing. Just like in every Hip Hop cliche movie. That was the most wicked thing I‘ve ever experienced. After that I really started to practice and learned the most.
One of the most memorable battle I have ever been in!
That was usually at the small parties they just happened. To many to list. But one was sticking in my mind: it was the original "Battle Squad" we were at this Party in Switzerland in 1988. We wanted to battle these French but at the time I injured my knee. I didn‘t think that the French would come out that strong. If I had known that I would not have entered the battle. But too late! They were bustin‘out moves left and right. I just thought: "Don‘t fuck up!" Hopefully it works out! In the End we got away good. It was around the time were we did not know each other that well or not at all. That was funny and interesting in that time. You had no plan, what would the other crew come out with. Today you know everbody from the videos alone.
What got Me to start the Hip Hop store business!
From 1990 to 1997 I just lived of dancing, sometimes good, sometimes bad. Had of course every Injury you can think of but I never thought I would have to stop because of it. Anyway the injuries got worse and I had to take off because of it more and more time. Till the day I had the problem with my spine and backÉ it broke off and stabbed into my right leg which paralized my leg. I was in fuckin‘pain, I couldn‘t do shit. It all happened in Japan with Storm and Vartan. Also with us were Easy Roc, Ivan, KwikStep. I thought it was just a pinched nerve but it got to worse. I went to see the doc and he told me that my spine slipped and I would never could dance again! I did for half a year intensive back exercises and (thank god) it got better and as you can see: I still rock these days!!! Well, it came about the Shop because there was no Hip Hop shop in my city. Since then I had knowledge about Hip Hop, and had all the connections. I just opened up a shop with the help of Backspin. We also opened up a second shop shortly but in a different city. Then came the weak economy in Germany and after 5 years we were confronted to close down the shop because shit loads of other hip hop stores opened up in better locations and bigger places. Now i got the Swift Rock Online Store wat i run by my self....... The good thing is I have more time to dance.
Some other European B-boy pioneers that kids should know about today!
In Germany I Would say the Dynamic Freezing Crew from Berlin in 1984 they rocked it. Then Universal Movements from Frankfurt. The Paris City Breakers and Aktuel Force from France. (Most of the Aktuel Froce Dance to this day) Manchester Street Machine, London All Stars, Broken Glass Crew from England, those are Crews I know of that rocked on a level in 1984 that was internationally fresh, and the influenced a lot of European Breakers. I‘m sure they were more Breakin Crews which I don‘t know and thatÕs why their not mentioned!
About Rocking today!
Half a year later I started again after the back injury. Shortly after that I did shows again. Small ones. Then later theatre stories with the Battle Squad, it was like 30 minute Spots. Thru the shop I had not a set schedual to practice, and I couldn‘t go on tour for a longer time, so I practiced less and did not enter so many shows. Now it is like I take time again to practice. I‘m happy that now almost everyday and feel good about it.

About:
A lot of the spray paint that we use comes from Europe, which are hard to find. A lot of graffiti artists from back in the day started with Krylon and all those other cans, but then, when we started painting and we had like rainbows of colors, we started using Belton and Montana—he started to carry a bunch of that paint.
All The Right is on Junction Boulevard in Corona, basically the neighborhood that I grew up in. At first it opened as a record shop—they sold mixed tapes—and then the guy started adding graffiti markers and t-shirts. Then he expanded and started carrying spray paint, because a lot of the spray paint that we use comes from Europe, which are hard to find. A lot of graffiti artists from back in the day started with Krylon and all those other cans, but then, when we started painting and we had like rainbows of colors, we started using Belton and Montana—he started to carry a bunch of that paint. So he has markers, black books and paint. I'll call up and ask if they have a color I'm looking for and they'll hold it for me and I'll pick it up.
