Being a country other than America, it's hard for me to tell what the bush sentiment is like at the moment, other than what i read on here. But from what i've been able to gather, it doesn't sound like he's going to make it back into office.
Is there much possibility of him getting elected for a second term?

I think anti-Bush sentiment is cliched. We should all just band together against kerry instead just to be different.

I mean, was i the only person watching the Daily Show when they showed a clip of Kerry snowboarding with about six secret service agents in tow? Kerry is no Bill Clinton.

Oil oil oil.....we all bitch about what this war is over but is anyone racing to sell their cars for bikes so that we might end our dependency on foreign oil? Ah, no. Honestly, I really think they are going to re instate the draft and this is going to become another Vietnam.

The social issues here will continue to erode the country and we will be living in a shitter.

It’s funny how they talk of homeland security but we are funding a war in Iraq.

Was Ashcroft thinking of homeland security when they locked up Tommy Chong for selling bongs?

This administration is white washing the country, planting seeds for a right wing, religiously conservative run country.

I have to say that my two favorite moments from that confrence were:

When that one guy (they didnt show his credentials or name), asked bush about goin to the 911 commission with cheney, and then when he didnt answer, the dude confronted him twice. it was classic. i had been waitin the entire time for someone to grow some balls and ask bush to actually answer the question posed.

The absolute best part though, was when the guy from NPR asked him about how all his speeches stayed the same and that the syntax there in never really wavered from a specific path. I found it rather funny when bush goes "just one more question..................actually, someone ive never talked to before, DON." Naturally NPR is the one news area not recognized by our pres.

Five bucks says that well never see Don from NPR again on one of the rare press confrences such as this.

I love how our president is completely infallible. anywho twas quite the grammatical experience tonight. he seemed off his game given the many many many errors he made. anyone else ever notice how happy he gets when he gets to mention a foreign leader's name? its like "Look at me, i can pronounce name from other languages. except arabic ones, nor can i really even speak my native tongue". except in his natural broken hick syntax. shit, im from texas, i dont speak that way. anywho just a friendly rant for the masses to enjoy.

another interesting thing that was seen tonight.

while talking about how iraq has gone from a "dictatorship" to "freedom" he switched from form of government to status of peoples. i thought it was a lil odd for him not to say democracy, but then i considered two things. first he is trying to play down the level of "nation building" that we are doing. and if he were to say democracy, it would imply that we are infact building a nation through structure. so that was the first implication of the statement.

secondly, my stepdad brought up the fact that by saying free, he was also hinting at a free market. thus cheaper access and more controll to the oil fields. and no im not makin some rant about the oil, i just thought it was an interesting prospect. and to an extent i think that our dependence on foreign oil is a good thing. it keeps us in check. i mean consider when venezuela's leader decided that bush is a jackass, so he decided to cut down imports of their oil to here. thats tight with me. just makes the general public that more disatisfied with the pres. albiet chavez isnt much of a political looker himself, he just fit the time with the right action with the right comment.

While I was watching this I realized he looks like a high school kid doing a class presentation. He stutters and is looking at his notes for more than 75 percent of the time. He can't even fucking read a single sentence without stuttering over the big words like "patriotic" and "europe". Its sad that he has prewritten responses to the questions (i hesitate to call them answers because they answered nothing and side steped the real answers) and he still manages to fuck up his responses. Anyone else remember the part he said something like "the iraqi people are glad to be freed." Yes they must be ecstatic, rioting and displaying the charred remains of westerners to cheering crowds.

ASN
04-14-2004, 04:15 AM
And since we couldn't find any weapons of mass destruction, wasn't the official reason for going to war (aside from oil or haliburton) was we "freed" the iraqi people? So they can all enjoy the luxuries us americans enjoy? Then how come we shut down one of the main Iraq newspapers....other than the fact it spoke against the occupation.

and funniest thing bush said in the "speech" was "well i dont think id like being occupied myself i tell ya what"
we are in safe hands.

*Siiigh... the shit I have to put up with to get good cigar advice on the Cigar Aficionado forums. Someone mentioned the "pressure of trying to answer" quote, here's some of the replies:

Hey, when you've made very few mistakes in foreign policy it's hard to come up with examples.(He's not about to give Kerry a free campaign ad) With the exception of a few stumbles, I thought he came off quite powerfully. Some people may not like his position, but there is really no question as to what his position is.

If you asked me the same question, I would have the same difficulty. I don't think I can just rattle off my biggest mistake in life, give you a complete answer about what it means and what the consequences were. Add in the obvious political ramifications and then it becomes a nearly impossible situation.

Some of you guys crack me up. You think giving a speech or having a press conference is so incredibly simple.

Bush was great at that press conference. Bush did to Kerry-Kennedy-Bird's "Let's Re-live Viet Nam" playbook what Rice did to Clark's "Bush Ruined Clinton's War on Terror" yarn.

that it is incredibly embarrassing to watch.

..i might add that although the press may be asking
good questions for this(really?), they are still sucking
on many fronts, especially this 9/11 commission shit.
one highlight would be the pdb and how its been spun
they didn't have a clue...so the fbi had 70 field investigations
huh? nobody at the fbi seems to recall... (http://www.newsday.com/news/nationworld/nation/ny-rice0410,0,3695500.story?coll=ny-nation-big-pix)where's the follow up on this shit..?
and even if there were those investigations occurring, why hasn't
the press raised questions about team bush's top down orders
for the fbi to 'back off' investigating saudi's? (http://news.bbc.co.uk/olmedia/cta/progs/newsnight/attack22.ram)

and it seems to me that the common sense PR 101, that karl rove was decked in laurels for has gone fucking bust.

care of roe to karl rove, one cup of coffee in me so youll excuse the coarseness, but you get the point.

ps. this isnt rocket science.

"the government and the system failed, if it hadnt people would not have died. we are a country founded on the ideas of taking responsibility for our action and growing from our experiences. in government the buck has to stop somewhere and it stops with me. as president its my job to realize and admit mistakes, and then figure out how to best avoid them in the future. i am apologize to this country for the failure of their government and i pledge to the victims of 911 as well as to those of the previous attacks on this nation, that their loved ones will not die in vain, that we as a country will learn from these errors and break downs in government no matter how painful the truth may be. for it would be even worse in my eyes, if all we did was morn and then continue to live with veiled ignorance shielding ourselves from the deaths of those we lost. So, here is what im doing to correct this mistake and change the attitude and behavior in washington when it comes to terrorism: 1. 2. 3. 4.

a few grumbling points:

"i want the american people to know that had we know what and where we would have moved mountains."

really? you mean if you had all the facts you could have spoiled the plot! youre like a regular fucking dick tracy. since when is stating the obvious an answer? you better fucking stop the attack if you know when and where. this answer is not answer. not for why didnt he do anything.

9/10th's of being president of the united states, is image. it's how you present yourself to us, and to the world. people can say what they want about clinton, but the guy was captivating, charming, and incredible when it came to fielding questions. you couldnt stump dude. he might not have always told the truth, but he gave answers that atleast were relivent to the question.
remember how much press it got when clinton momuntarily forgot monica's name? when he said 'i did not have sexual relations with...that woman, with ms. lewinsky'? it was a huge fucking deal because he forgot her name for a split second. meanwhile, bush has LITERALLY 30 second pauses in his answers, and we're not supposed to give a fuck, or think that makes him unfit or the job?

That's the sad part. So unless his fuckups make headlines noone is really going to know. However it does seem like the media is growing a set of balls. Perhaps they are emboldening each other. Yall make a good point about the media and its constant attacks on Clinton during his years. no doubt to the fact that they would hop on his balls the moment he put a finger in his nose, but there is another factor to be considered in terms of bush. now i am in no way endorsing, or justifying our current president, i am only presenting an explination of why the media doesnt attack him as much as clinton.

Aside from the fact that even though most media is called liberal, and it isnt, there is another interesting factor that most need to consider in regards to bush. Lowered expectations. In the book The Bush Dyslexicon the author presents the point that bush did an amazing job of bringing down our contries expectations of leaders. During his campaign, by avoding questions, and giving small lil grammatical errors, we came to expect nothing but that from him. wether this was infact a strategy or an unexpected benifit of his own mental deffiencies, it paid off in a big way.

We as a society came to believe that u dont need intelligence, an ability to speak, and an ability to defend urself and our country, as reasonable prerequisites for that post in our government. and so, as we continue further and further into his administration, we have tolerated his inability to speak and to actually communicate an idea effectively through the correct use of syntax and diction.

Sadly, there are few of us left who remember the days when every word was scrutinized to its fullest extent.

Another interesting thing that i have considered is one reason the press pushed against clintons o much, was that we as society realised clintons amazing ability to speak, ex temp or prepared. but was saw it as a form of entertainment, and we liked to see him backed int o a corner to see how he would get out of it. with bush we dont expect him to be able to get himself out. and whenever he is pushed into one, it illicits a feeling of pity for him, for most ppl that is.

This is one of the reasons that i definantly saw the question from Don of NPR as the best of the press conference. He cornered bush, but on a subject that made perfect sense, language. For all of those that missed the conference he asked if bush had an responses to criticism of using redundant speech form and syntax for almost all of his speeches.

Anywho, i figured u two might enjoy those thoughts, and i am curious to hear urs ont he subject.

by the way, im andrew, nice to meet yall. been readin the boards for a long time. just started postin though

Clinton got it from the press because from the onset of his campaign the far right realized he had the, "winability" factor down. Clinton was the target of a huge be-smerching campaign from the days of his govenorship. William jefferson Clinon represented a large and real threat to the religous right; Carismatic, able to lead with a calming confidence, measured , stable, which are good things but not when posessed by the competition.

Bush finds himself in an interesting position; aside from his dumbing down the presidency. He is a wartime president, as such the would be critical media has been a little slow to flame the obvious faults of the current administration. He has also managed to take more vacation days than any other president in the history of our fine country. He, or his advisors have developed this, presidential two step, that circumvents accountability and substance. His speach was a farse, I actually ended up being more confused then before he spoke. I was able to be comforted by my niave assumptions that there was a well thought out plan in the midst of being executed. Now i know that bush has as little an idea of whats gonna happen, as I do.

All of this leads me to realize that Don Rummy, and Dick Chain, are in control of the decisions. They worked together in the DOD years back and were actualy responsible for the privatizing the goverment/military services. Rummy is a slimeball, although i cant quite see his angle. He seems a little to smart to go in for the religious rights rhetoric. I dont know.

well, i agree about bush not being in controll of the actual administration. i think that some of the best satire was that of the first snl episodes of will farrel as bush, and havin start an address to the people in the big desk, then cheney walks in and tells him to get to his own desk, and bush sits at a lil kiddy desk with mickey mouse pencils. prolly our best guess as to how things are actually working there.

u make a good point about rumsfeld. ive always been curious about that myself, about what he benefits from that is.

one thing ive always been a curious of; i live in missouri city texas, our representative is tom delay. im sure all of u politically conciouncess folk have heard of him. hes the one that causes all the stupid trouble... well anywho, he was a bug killer before he became a representative, and im sorry, there is no way that man is as smart as the things he pulls off. i wonder who tells him what to do.

GOOD GOD I CAN NOT FUCKING STAND GEORGE W. BUSH.

He isn't even a believable con man. Any asshole with half a knack for spotting a fraud could pick him out of a crowd with their eyes gouged out. I'd vote a fucking aborted fetus into office before I'd vote for that colonic-mishap-of-a-human-being.

***edit*** mams thats an awsesome web site. it reminds me of the www.welovetheiraqiinformationminister.com (http://www.welovetheiraqiinformationminister.com) during the "war".

the problem for us non bushies is it seems that the country is basically evenly split D/Rs, and kerry and bush are fighting over the 8% or so of undecided voters. To think this whole thing depends on 8% of the dumbest americans out there, we are in trouble with not a lot of light at the end of the tunnle.

Kerry/ Heavy 04 rock that vote folks.
