do you think its queer to use a wall in your backyard to practice on? ive just recently caught the bug for painting, after putting down my cans for at least 5 yrs.. i kept paper piecing so my style has progressed but i lost all my can control as i found out last week i like my wall, and i dont care what other people think. i just want to know if anyone else is doing this?

Don't worry about that. I think it's better that people practice at their garage instead covering some spot with ugly shit. If you like painting your garage, paint it. People on here will call you gay regardless.

Hell, painting in my garage and under a few select bridges and in the yard a town over.. is about all the hell I do. Don't live in a city big enough to warrent throwies aesthetic speaking ..

plus cop's don't have anything better to do in my town than ilegally search some kid with a messenger bag walking around at 3am. bastards.

if i had a backyard, rest assured it would have layers of paint an 2 inches thick. any wall looks better with a piece on it... that is, if the piece is a good one.

definately waste of paint, but actually not. im sick of seeing ridiculous shit painted everywhere. pieces are hard to do but the least anyone should do is to practice your handstyle before bombing the whole town with irregular no-controlled shit one cannot even label as "tags"

I would feel bad losing cans on some hidden board at the backyard but at least if you're a tool you can check out where the paint comes from and what each cap does. I'd probably practice throwups if I had my own wall. I love it when i see throwups that are as controlled as tags

you can always find a bridge or a tunnel in the burbs and make it your own. ask some street kid where he drinks his space bags at night. the point is, you don't want to shit where you sleep. back yard walls are a reason for your bitch neighbor to snitch on you.

werd, i keep a low profile, dont use my real name on the wall, and all the bridges and tunnels out here are spots that people go to paint already, try to find an unknown spot in my city is a feat in itself. plus the whole point is to hone my skills back to the piont where i can rock the shit out of any wall anyone can see...........

She felt a male's lust for her gorgeous figure and her erection began again in earnest. What a strange feeling! For the first time, she got up the nerve to touch her new organ. Her tentative caress sent a thrill through her and served to harden her member to its fullest. What an incredibly different sensation! She stroked it again, and then once more. Oh, she knew that she would have to take this to its natural conclusion.

practice walls are not gay, i will most likley never pick up a can again for the rest of my life, the only thing think than my skull is my court record, and i am never going back there. i know a lot of cats who dont hit the streets anymore, retired, but they still love the art form even if they can't be part of the vandalism aspect(which sucks, cause thats the funnest part)

if you dont have the privledge of a nice back yard (aka you a project mufucka, or live in a studio what ever) don't let that stop you, even if you rent, building a temporary wall from 2x4's and dry wall is easy as shit, no nails needed, it leaves no marks when you take it down, i have built these for people who rent studios and want an extra room, simple shit and looks like a real wall(you can paint drywall numerous times over and over), just make sure you got a fuckin mask if you paint inside. the up side is you can stop worrying about cops, and even save your work if you want to, down side is unless you got a lotta of windows and big fans....everything in your pad smells like aerosol. this is also a good idea if you have an unfinished basment.

if you have a big balcony you can build a flat frame for a drywall peice and hang it from something, or build a jumbo easle from lumber. none of this shit is hard to do, you can jack most of the materials from construction dumpsters.

hope this helped some of you, get at me, 8onus got all your handy man needs. bob villa aint got shit on me.

is it really necessary to have a piece of plywood, or a wall to practice on? isn't it a waste of paint? shouldn't practice be spent on scrap paper or blackbooks? i don't see the point of wasting paint on bullshit practicing when you could be using it to bomb.

Thats true but skecthing with a pen and paper is fully different than using a cna of spray paint mate.

Thats actually smarter than going to the local piecing wall and toying the place up. I never did that myself but, if i could go back i would, that way when you went out to bomb youd have a gri on things and actually have some confidence in your tags. As opposed to someone who just goes out and makes shit look ugly, yeah its vandalism, but people DO have to see that. My $0.02.

to me, doing some wack piece out on the streets somewhere, thats just gonna get laughed at, is a much bigger waste of paint than practicing in your back yard. you throw up ugly work and you're not gonna get any respect, so get some can control, get a little bit a style, then hit those walls. then everyone will be like "whoa, this kid came outa no where" theres a lot more respect in that than in dirtying up a wall with your lame work.

I didn't bother reading this thread so what I have to say might've been repeated...

Plywood... Cement Wall... Freight... Three different types of surfaces that react distinctively when (spray) painted on. And on top of that, temperature. The paint tends to drip more in a hotter environment. So when you're out this upcoming summer, you'll notice that your paint is gonig to drip more on that cheap plywood of yours rather than on a cement wall in the winter. Go out and explore your city. Find a chill wall and practice there rather than on a piece of plywood in your backyard. Plus, they're advantages in painting at a chill spot. One being that you MIGHT actually run into another writer. If he's experienced, he'll show you the ropes. If he's as toy as you, you both can LEARN together. Which makes for a better experience IMO. BUt above all else, practice. Caps and brand name paint don't make the writer...

peace,
-J.

ps- Don't quote me on that temperature statement. It could be the other way around depending on your situation. I like situations... ;)

yellow feets has a good point. finding a nice chill spot, where you might run into another writter, would make for a much more valuable experience than just painting by yourself in your backyard. i still like to try stuff out in my backyard, on cardboard pulled from the trashn though. but nothing beats some practice at a good chill spot, and at a chill spot you're at least getting up, in your backyard you're just painting.

When i first started painting I used my garage. O the fun with that LOL. Once I finished took a picture then a few days later coverd it with matt paint. Just regular paint, so I could use it agen. Its only about £12 for a big 10litre tub of paint and I didnt use that much of my cans either. Its worth while as you get better so when you finaly hit the streets you no what to do LOL.

practice walls are for the birds...just think, what did people do before practice walls...they just painted. how can you prepare and practice for illegal graffiti in the comfort of moms little shed thingy in the back yard.

[quote=Malice,Sep 11 2004, 04:11 AM]if you're self-conscious about your graffiti I don't see anything wrong with a little practice on the side.*** Just don't try and play it off as real graff and post like on 12oz or something that would be kinda gay.

if youre self concious about your writing your doing it for the wrong reason. and as far as practicing on a wall at your house, if you feel like doin it, then do, who cares what anyone thinks. if i feel like paintin somethin and i dont feel like hittin the streets ill go get some plywood or cardboard and paint on it. its jus somethin you, do it how you want.

how about all you shut up, aguing over wether practice and where it is done is "gay" or not. you seem to be forgeting this shit is art, and if you think other wise you shouldnt do it. practice is practice boys, anything you spend time doing wether it be with a pencil, chalk, a biro or can orr marker will get you better and better and it shouldnt matter where it is, the back of your hand or the forehead of freeking mona lisa PRACTICE IS PRACTICE.
the only thing for style and idividality and, in the long term, self acceptance of your skill and own personal style will come as long as you keep on at it. as long as you are happy that what you have just threw up on the wall is the best to your abilty, it is art, be happy.
does it mattter if you practice on wood at home or in your garage? any one hu says anything deogatory toward thoos who practice, im sorry but do you really think putting some one who practices makes you look like you have achieved everything you want from your vandilisms without any practice? think not.
realise what you are saying, everything you ever drew was practice for the following peice, just keep writing and leave the toys alone.
just rok and respect eachother...? thank you, and peace.

Theres this drainage ditch down the roaqd from my house that you can wak through this pipe, its about 100 meters or so, abd theres hell black widows and shit but thats where I go to practice. It coes out behind someones house.Theres no chill walls so i works. And about how real men practice in the street or whatever, I hate it when toys hit up around my place. Atleast know what your doing first.

there's this parking garage nearby my apartment. it's like semi-abandoned, still in use but hardly anyone uses it. you still have to go there at like 2 in the morning because the people at the apartment complex can see you clear as day from their balconies.

here's how i think of it. buy cheap ass paint for your back yard wall and practice practice practice. then when you get good, get some better paint and hit the streets.

i use shitty colorplace in my backyard and rusto and krylon on the streets.
