View Full Version : I need a new bag.

Here's the deal, I need a new backpack.

The one I've been using for the last year and a half is clearly dead, there are massive holes in the bottom and the seams are ripping apart. I didn't expect a $6 backpack to last anyway.

Which brings us back to the point of this thread. I need a new backpack (no messenger bags please, my shoulders are only so strong). I'm looking for something low-key (like a jansport super break), but I'm open to something new if it's absolutely awesome.

I prefer smaller bags (again, I'm open to awesomeness), and don't want to spend more than $60. 12oz consumerism style arbiters: do your work.

I had a 'backpack' thread before... and I found a great one!

check www.mec.ca for some great packs.
It's in canadian funds too... so think cheap.
Oh... Eastpack has a durable rep too.

I cant find that old thread with the new search tool :(

Supreme dropped some new backpacks again this season. The quality of their bags is always nice. I'd also look at Head Porter (from Japan) if you can afford it. You can find it in NYC above Stussy in Soho.

A lot of skate companies make fresh bags.

I'm rocking a black es bag. It looks good and it's pretty functional. Mine ran me 50 bucks though.

Damn, I forgot about skate bags. CCS has some good ones for damned cheap, I might go with them.

ChrisWalkenOner

I recommend them. They carry a lot of shit, there comfortable and look damn good.

Any thoughts on this bag from anyone? (sorry raven, $200 was too much for a backpack):

20 bucks?! I say go for it.

seeking
10-13-2004, 08:02 PM
damn, that shit is ugly though.
if all you want is functional, hook it up. if im gonna be wearing some shit though, i want it to atleast not look like shit.
i dont know why you think messenger bags would hurt your shoulder. if you wear it right, the bulk of the weight is on your back, not your shoulder.

have you thought about one of those carts like the chinese women carry groceries in?

Nekro
10-13-2004, 09:28 PM
It comes in black, which isn't that bad. However, I'll probably just get one of these:

I would kill for a supreme back pack, only one place in the uk gets them at there shut at the moment, that is even if I could A afford the horrendous mark up and B get there before the resellers, head porter are nice I have an hp wallet but that’s all I could afford…I have a nice big north face courier bag I use most of the time, also got a gravis vs rostarr bag which look cool but is actually pretty crap, gravis do some nice bags though…

feeling that independent bag... looks like it's got a sick front organizer pocket.

Nekro
10-14-2004, 03:39 AM
I had a clive bag for a while, I didn't like flipping over the wierd stabilizer layer and buckling it every time I went in the bag. Other than that and the bright red color scheme it was (still is, never destroyed it) great. The newer color schemes are a lot better and they worked out the stabilizer flap issue.

i personally have a single dickies backpack, great bag, simple one big compartment, 1 outer, i love it, i have had others, but the over kill of pockets is just annoying.

On that note, can someone suggest a good messenger back that can hold at least 8 cans a paint, preferably in 2 rows of 4.

my friend had one that used to be a playstation carrier bag. It was the height of cans and the length of 4, 2 deep, does anyone have any idea what a good bag for this would be?

if you dont mind throwing down some flow
check out the timbuk2 bags. they cost a little more
but have a lifetime guarantee. however as i write i
remember that the velcro is super tight and really
noisy which may not be too stealthy when vandalizing.
but they are hip kid, and it should fit at least eight.
peace.

ps- those thermal lunch bags, the rectangular ones
fit six cans without caps and the foam insulation
deadens some of the agitator noise from the cans.

Raven and Hipster have it covered, I would love a supreme bag and the headporter’s are beautiful up close, both way out of my current price range though, been looking for a decent bag of late, at the moment im using a big northface courier bag which us ok but want a backpack, I have a rostarr gravis shadowpack which I really don’t like at all, its to bulky, I saw a nice nike acg one with similar lines to a supreme style bag the other day, might pic it up after xmas….

^^ bump for this backpack its awesome! this backpack is great for anything. the key is it has straps on the back so you can tighten or expand the area for stuff in the backpack. check it out:
here it is from the back, im not a fan of the reflective strips, i think i might paint them black:
http://img87.exs.cx/img87/1071/bp18gd.jpg

here it is from the side, so sexy and slim --and holding 6 cans and a mask!:
http://img87.exs.cx/img87/8766/bp20yh.jpg

open 'er up:
http://img87.exs.cx/img87/9660/open10yi.jpg

keeps the cans nicely organized too:
http://img87.exs.cx/img87/1535/open26wx.jpg

i give this bag an A++ this shit is so comfortable to wear with the gelled strips down the back and shapes to your body, the ability to keep it tight so things dont rattle around, and its drop dead gorgeous looks.

I call them Gandalf bags. People who walk around them all day are scary because they're usually ugly and poorly dressed and I'm afraid that if they can read my mind, they'll cast a spell using potions from the bag.

Kelty makes some of the best hiking / climbing packs out there.

I've got a medium sized one, but it's just a little too big for daily use.

and Low Alpine makes amazing packs. They're built as tough as the Lowe Pro camera cases.
I used to have a nice one, but my mom decided it was going to be my birthday gift to her.

Dakine backpacks are reaaalllly dope. Really comfy, pretty sure they also have a lifetime gaurantee but theyre really durable too. theres definitely enough room for 8 cans if not more. this was the one i bought

I've had it for almost 2 years now and never had a problem with it, and it was only 55$ canadian

messenger bags can fuck up the shoulders.

I dotn mind them in the fall or winter, but wearing a messenger bag
in the summer with just a t-shirt seems kind of funny. That's when it's a purse.

unless you're actually rolling around on a bike doing shit.

that Kremlin bag is just plain huge. I think I might start smuggling people across the border with it.

my messenger bag has a cross strap that keeps it from swinging around your body. most dont.

I think most 'Real' courier bags have them. I know my Chromes and Timbuk2 have them. The PAC bags I believe have a double strap for extra big and heavy loads.

After using a Chrome bag...I don't think I could switch to anything else...I just like the buckle so much more than having to slide in and out of the connected strap that all the other bags have. Definitely a convenience.

yeah, my buddy has one with the big buckle.
It's way easier to get in and out if you're waring bulky layers or rain gear.

Baileyworks Super Courier.
I absolutely love this bag.
I got it because I enjoy the cross straps and quick release setup.
Sick.

one other thing I love about the Chrome bags...is the fact that its completely fucking water proof. The completely seperate waterproof bag inside the nylon bag is super dope. I had mine strapped on the back of a Harley for around 14 hours...it rained for about 6-7 of those hours and everything inside it was dry. guess that doesn't matter much to those that only see weather from their car to wherever.

those people love their cages. (not me!)

the hardcore messengers around here rock the canoe packs.

My work gave me a chrome bag. I work for a marketing company so why the fuck did they give me a fucking messenger bag?! I hate the buckle. I just wish it wasn't a fucking seatbelt buckle.
