A Phoenix police officer accidentally shot a graffiti suspect Sunday while the man hid under a pile of clothes in a stranger's bedroom.
The victim, 23-year-old Tim Vic, was shot in the hip through the clothing, said Sgt. Lauri Williams, a Phoenix police spokeswoman.
Vic was spray-painting a sidewalk in the 4700 block of North 86th Drive with three or four other people around 4:30 p.m. when police were called, she said. advertisement
All the spray-painters ran when officers arrived, Williams said.
Officer Joseph Twyford, 30, saw a man run toward a house on the block. Twyford asked the homeowner, a woman who was home alone, if he could search her house.
Twyford and another officer went into the house and were searching a bedroom when Twyford's gun went off. Authorities are investigating why it fired, but Twyford told investigators it was accidental.
Vic was in critical but stable condition at St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center. Twyford is on routine paid administrative leave.

where im from people hit ground tags all the time. they dident say how he was doing it, it could have been spray paint or latex. theres nothing wrong with ground tags, they burn for so long im suprised more people dont do it...

yeah, i was fucking bombing underneath this bridge, by some train tracks...turns out the 711 down the street was robbed, the area was swamped with 5-0 before we even know what was happening...got spot lights shined on us, so we ran. motherfuckers eventually caught up, told us about the robbery and said if we had cans in our hands and they saw them, we most likely would have gotten shot. fuck the police.
