All this nonsense about all the toys even in the 80's had flavour is bullshit. That was a time when graffiti was being pioneered in Australia, so basically you could've shat on a wall and these days someone could chalk that up to "exploring letter forms". In any graffiti culture in any country across the world at any given time, there is always going to be shit writers. They're called beginners. Everybody starts off shithouse. I'm absolutely sure that when you first started writing, your can control and knowledge of good letter structure was shocking, it's the way things go.
And i don't really think ABC would bother to go off and make up a new screen name and pretend to be a 15 year old to try and boost his argument with a couple of words of support.

I feel exactly the same way as you do in that respect revolutione, i was brought up with the understanding that you earnt the right to do trains, by putting in the legwork everywhere else and bulding up some knowledge and skill and then you did panels, but there's always been dudes hitting trains that shouldn't be. If you get the chance, then you sit down and explain to these kids what the etiquette is and what they should do before they hit trains, but when everyone comes on here and see's a photo of a toy piece and tells the kid they're gonna get smashed if they don't stop writing (extreme example) then that achieves nothing and all we're left with is beef, beef and beef.

Water marks don't bother me at all when they're small and out of the way like inshas and mg but when you get big blue font and write THIS ISNT MY PIECE\PANEL BUT IT IS MY WRITING OVER THE TOP it jsut takes the edge off what ever it is that you have flicked.

It's hard for me to comment with great confidence about the 80's because i wasn't around back then but in reference to your statement about toys abc, Toys of the 80's were more likely to be looked on now as having more style and what not because back then there really was only one main style (yes i know, everyone did differnt styles and what not) so there wasn't much variety to aspire too. Where as now there is a thing called the internet and everyone can check what everyone else is up too in the world and get ideas of styles from differnt cultures and area's. Anyone can do big bubble letters and overfills and call themselves euro, but to do a technical wildstyle piece when your a toy is a whole differnt story.

yes, we look back more favourably on 80's beginners these days because at the time alot of what they were doing was innovative due to the circumstances. does that make them better than toys these days? no, the were just as inexperienced as a toy in 2004. our rose coloured glasses may blind us to this fact, and i guess cos they sucked the first time around and many blossomed into the names we now all admire and respect we forget that.

my main problem was with the statement 'toys these days have limited styles to follow'. i'm sure we can agree that the resources at the disposal of a kid these days are far more immense than back in the 80's. kids these days progress at a far more accelerated rate than they did 2 decades ago. whether or not you like the style path they follow is irrelevant. personal taste will always vary.

keep in mind, being able to paint skinny lines and use pretty colors doesn't automatically make you good. i think too many kids follow the path of complex pieces and skip past learning how to do a correct straight letter/throwup/tag and end up with a limited knowledge of letters. i would have to say, of all the folks in that area of graffiti only a handful of them actually do dope letters. some people just disguise their inability behind a complex color scheme and well executed technique. this is also evident in the attrocious selection of names out there on the lines.

a stylish piece doesn't just rely on having a good color scheme and technically sound lettering, it also has alot to do with your letter selection/combination. would we have noticed and praised puzle so much if he didn't have such a cool name? this could be said for alot of people. you could be technically dope as hell, but if your name is 'anus' then your shit is destined to the rubbish bin of life. if your name looks good pieced, but looks rubbish when tagged, then your name sucks. if it doesn't work (or you can't make it work) in every way, then it's time to select a new name. hell, make one up even.

I'll have to disagree with you on that one Mr Wankerpants. As long as you have a dope style, it really shouldn't matter what word you write.
If Puzle were shit, no one would have payed any attention to him irregardless of his word. Furthermore, if you're writing a word like 'Anus' you're probably more likely to get noticed, and add a half decent style, you'd probably make a name for yourself in no time.
