Painting Skills

what's up. i got a question. ive been painting for about six months, a few times a week. however, my skills have not progressed. everything pretty much looks the same - shitty. i know everyone says to get out and paint, but everytime i paint, i am not happy with the results, at all. i am pretty much doing the same shit over and over.

so my question pretty much is for the more experienced writers, how long did it take for you to actually start painting decent work and not be embarrased about it?

if you're able to tell that your work is 'shitty' then you should be able to figure out what needs to be improved about it. practice on paper until you get something that you're satisfied with and then try painting it. you shouldn't be painting if you're embarrassed by your work.

When I go bombing and shit its fine, I can do throwies and hit tags decently, and established writers have told me they like my handstlyle. the shit I do on paper is not that bad, it's all simple shit though. but when I go into a tunnel and try to paint it I can't do it, I get frustrated as fuck.

Try to get a more experienced writer to go with you. There is no faster way to learn than observing another writer or reciving criticism and advice from them

I found that I had to keep on painting over and over to get anything half decent done. Even now i dislike what I do most of the time. Just paint a lot (which is something I didn't do enuff when I started) and keep on sketching.
Out of the way not heavily used Halls Of Fame are good for practise (although some people think not) just be careful what you go over.

there is no one answer to this, like many other threads in here, this is something you are going to have to find out for yourself.

it depends on how dedicated you are
how much drive you have
how much natural talent you already had.

no one is going to give you a magic answer that is going to tell you how much longer until your shit makes you happy.

go out and paint until you do something that you like.
then you will know how long it takes.

another note, when you finally get better, you'll have progressed also in your sense of what is good and what isn't, so technically, you may NEVER be totally happy with what you do..
that's how some people push themselves to get better!

next time, read through all the threads in the yard.
you'll see a great many with opinion type questions like the one you just asked get closed, because this is some shit YOU MUST FIND OUT FOR YOURSELF> NO ONE ANSWER WORKS FOR EVERYONE.
