For the first time in my life I have a job that enables me to make substantial purchases (by substantial i mean anything over $500). So my first major puchase is going to be a new laptop. I know for sure I'm going to buy a mac laptop--as i already have a PC desktop-- so I'm looking for advice on whether I should purchase the best ibook (G4 1.33 GHz, 256 MB, 60 GB, SuperDrive, 32 MB Video, AirPort, 14" @ $1,899) or the worst powerbookPowerBook (1.33 GHz, 256 MB, 60 GB, ComboDrive, AirPort, 12" @ $2,099)

It will be used primarily for doing work in Pshop, illustrator, Quark, and Flash--and maybe, maybe a bit of after effects. Is it worth shelling out an additional $200 for a computer with a smaller screen and similar specs? So tell me powerbook/imac users, which machine--in your opinion-- best suits my needs.

i've worked on strictly a powerbook for the past 2 years...for most tasks it's sick...but you'll need to up the RAM...

i would even invest a couple more hundred and get the 15inch powerbook with a super drive...

honestly if you're spending that much...a couple hundred more isn't that bad...

doing video on a laptop sucks though...since the harddrives don't spin as fast as a standard 7200 rpm HD...a good external will help though......my next investment is a G5...

i'm on a almost 2 year old powerbook g4 / 1 gig / superdrive / 60 gig hd / 768mb ram...shit runs nice...

i've learned the hard way, you get what you pay for. so dont disappoint yourself by dropping all that loot on some shit that will just get you by.

Thanks for the replies fellas. I dig what you're saying (war pigs) about shelling out a couple hundred more for the 15". I'm sure working on a 12" would get to me after a while. Hmmm. I'll keep you posted.

personally, the ibooks have gotten so good, that even the bottom line ibook is more powerfull than war pigs powerbook. (no offense homie. ;) )

if you've got unlimited money, id say go for the power book, but you'd be saving about a grand (us) if you went with the ibook. that's nearly enough to get you a 23" flat panel.

seriously, look into the ibook though....save you a grip of money and give you damn powerful computer for what you're spending (1.33g g4, 60gb, super drive, up to 1.5gb ram...)

get one its the best thing you'll do...
plus you can floss with it every where... get the wireless connection and you can go ride on other peoples internet for free.....

You know, if you are buying it for school, they offer a healthy couple hundred dollar discount.

I just joined the darkside today.
I'm in for a treat

I just sold all my current computer crap to downsize and simplify. I ended up with the 17" powerbook and all the bells and whistles. I must say that it's a pretty smooth machine. And with the Airport Express... amazing. Nothing like chillin' with the fam in the living room while looking at porn on the net. None the wiser...

i would love a powerbook for its esthetics. small, sleek, portable. but i could never see myself taking it anywhere, i suppose i would find somewhere to take it. either way i vote for desktops and easy expandability, just picked up my G5 today, merry christmas.

congrats homie. that case alone is slick as hell.

i'll always be a laptop guy. once you check your email while taking a shit, you'll never be able to do it any other way.

ha-ha...awesome.
I really need to sell all my old stuff and just buy a powerbook. I'd still have to have my palette monitor...but I think it'd be a good move.

iv grown up on pcs and i did the research on macs and i got the 15" powerbook superdrive. i am really liking the mac, its way different but i like it a lot. so many good features. so much good shit. do the research, go to the apple store, see what you like. macs have a much nicer feel, i love this shit..ask people what they think. get a popular consensus

money comes and goes so fast. now it looks like i may have to blow my wad on a trip to cuba to please my girlfriend. bye bye laptop. although the funds leftover from the trip can go into purchasing more silk screens and a pressure washer. i can't wait to start running that bitch off my kitchen sink at 11:00 pm. my neighbors are going to love me.
