that's pretty clean, you might want to consider re-doing it in illustrator though.

try googling the error message... i did and got a bunch of results, but im not motivated enough right now to search through them for you.... seems like whatever drive you designated as your scratch disc during install doesnt have enough free space on it basically.....

edit: found this:

"while PS is loading, hold down ctrl+alt+shift (i think...it's been almost 3 years since i last worked on PS!) and you should get a prompt to select your scratch disk.

it's always a bad idea to use your OS drive as your scratch disk because the OS and PS are gonna battle for the resource"

ive asked this somewhere else but i cant fucking find my question

how do u do the whole black and white with only one color showing in the image
im totally stumpppped

i mean i could turn the whole thing to grayscale then just color the part in, but that aint cool
is there a way to do this?

i dont have photoshop but im guessing all you have to do is use the 'select' tool at a high magnification to select what you want to be in color/bw and then desaturate the rest. that way the colored part is how the photo/whatever would look naturally and you wont have to color it yourself.

the select tool usually looks like a lasso, but could be different in ps.

Hayabusa
01-04-2008, 08:32 AM
yeah that might be a way
altho the select tool is a huge bitch to use so im hoping theres another way

anyways while i wait, heres some old shit i did in PS
mix of drawn and photo alteration
i hate using PS, its toooo time consuming for most of my projects
but ive learned a lot over the years about it
as well i have a lot of bookmarked sites with tutorials and shit

NEVERMIND ABOUT MY PREVIOUS QUESTION I FIGURED IT OUT

in the image tab, go to adjustments, hue/saturation
theres a drop down menu that has master, reds, yellows, blues etc. u can choose whatever color there and choose to edit it seperately
yay finally

im sure everyone has their own way of doing it, but i always desaturated the photo first then went back over the desired colour bits with the "art history brush"...

or using a layer adjustment and painting the mask where you want color exposed.

same idea as the art history brush.

Sometimes I'm amazed. Back in the early 90s you actually had to look and know the right people to download pirated software. Before that it was dial-up BBSes. Now, technology has advanced and any piece of illegal anything is available with a single search from public sources and people have trouble finding what is probably the most commonly pirated piece of software in the history of piracy itself. Unbelievable.

the pattern is just a brush i have. its basically a bunch of dots so you could use
.................................
.................................
.................................
.................................
.................................
.................................

and mess around with the ledding to get the same effect. rasterize the text layer and you'll be able to cut into it.

also the strokes doesn't have a bevel but i see how it can look that way. their is small drop shadow between the "one shot" and the "3D"

theres about 100 ways... but easiest ways are either select that layer in the layers pallet and then use the selection tool to select a rectangle around it then hit delete... or select a chunk of the light pink layer same way then copy/paste it on top of everything.....

Agreed, or at least reduce the size of the shadow itself, it kind of looks like an outer bevel without highlights.

Buncha art critics on here, yes?

Never went to design school, which would appear to be obvious by my lack of talent that you so thoughtfully pointed out.

It's a bit more than what you listed, but yes, all those things were involved. Do you "real" designers never do things just for shits and giggles anymore?

you're on a graffiti website that people get their shit torn apart by other writers

at first glance i like it.
second glance-
a little more texture in the "your life"
make the background fade to dark more fluid so i cant really tell where one color ends and another begins.
when parts of letters are connected and they change color as soon as the new letter starts, it really erks me. this is a personal preference i'm sure, so i dont think you need to listen to that.
aside from that, never being a designer but paying attention to shit for my entire life, i'm a fan of what you did here.

^ For some reason I want to put a woodgrain texture in the background of this. Cross-section of a tree's rings...something in the background that adds more interest.

I do like the alignment of the text, however it is approaching the fine line of "I can't read that shit" Maybe a bit more kerning between the letters...or not.

honestly... just play around with it to get familiar with the tools.... google some tutorials and follow them to help you learn the basics (thats all school is anyway).....
i taught myself how to use it with ver 6 or 7 while designing a friends cd cover about 10 yrs ago.... it took me 3 weeks and i could probably do the entire thing in less than an hour now.... one of the best ways to get faster/more efficient with it is keyboard shortcuts..... almost every tool and/or function has one, plus you can customize em (under the 'edit' menu)....
a lot of the photo editing shit youre askin about is under the image>adjustments menu..... i would suggest making a duplicate layer (ctrl+j) of the original before you start editting so you dont have to undo (ctrl+z) every edit to get back to where you started... as far as photo editing specifics im not the one to ask b/c most of what i do with PS is from scratch.....
im kinda buzzy right now so i prolly just rambled on and didnt say much, but i have had my head buried in PS for a while now so if there are any questions i might be able to answer just ask.....

Yeah, I learned the same way ballbags did. I had to make flyers for friends events about 6 years ago, and I ended up doing it for a living. IMO, the best way to learn is to have something to do. When I had nothing going on, I would try to re-do my favorite album covers. As long as there was a subject and some text to work with, you'll have plenty.

johnny ballbags
08-30-2010, 03:28 AM
yeah man.....
having a project to complete is definitely the best way to learn.... give yourself 'assignments' and complete them.....
any 'how to' book or even formal classes basically work the same way....
also just open a jpg of a photo and just fuck w all the tools 1 by 1 to get a feel for what they all do...
look at other peoples work that youre into and try to break down how they did it and recreate it.....
start small..... dont overwhelm yourself.... it seems like theres a ton of shit to learn but you will eventually pick your fav 5 or 6 tools and only use the other here and there...... almost every PS newbie gets filter happy as a phase, but you will grow out of that quick (if you even hit that phase), especially knowing how much raw talent you have, B.......
one spot i frequented for a time for tips, tricks, and tuts is creativebits.org ....... i cant recall an other specific ones right now, but i will post any that come to mind.... i spent/spend a shit ton of time just googling specific tuts based on any project im working on.....
theres really no substitute for burying your nose in your keyboard for 8 hours at a time when it comes to learning PS (or any design s/w for that matter)....its a matter of dedication and reps...theres no secret formula......
i have wasted more hours than i care to think of just staring at other peoples shit....
shiniybinary.com is a pretty fresh site that always inspires me.....
also check out brianlife.com for some fresh work.....
if youre really tryina get serious with it i would look into a wacom tablet..... i have a 9" x 12" intuos that i could not live without.....
...../more buzzy rambling....

I'm self taught on photoshop, best place to look is youtube now for video tutorials.
I had CS3 pretty much down but recently upgraded to CS5, youtube had everything I needed to learn for free.
Plus it's better to watch a variety of techniques than just learn one way to do things.

I will say this though, alot of talk in here is based around graphic design, letters, font's and stuff like that.
Illustrator is much better for graphics and typography, photoshop does have some of those features built in but it's best for just working with photo's.
If you really want to do design work I'd suggest learning illustrator also.

Existing typeface. Taller evolution. I would never stretch a typeface more than 5-10%, and thats IF I would do it at all.

Adobe.com has tons of tutorials and if you have the install disks there are tons of tutorials already in there.
Most of them will be updates describing the new features but some will be basics.

Personally I use youtube, I hate their stupid fucking adds but if you get used to searching on there it's better.
The people making tutorials on there have competition and tend to be better than even the paid sites like linda.com
Getting used to searching and arranging the search results by relevance, most comments, most views, ect. is the key I think.
That's whats going to help you out the most, not a few links here and there, if you have specific tasks you want to learn you can pick and choose.

For the most part it's tough because if you don't even know what you want to do is called in photoshop talk it's tough to search for.
That's why I just watched a ton of basics and payed more attention to what different stuff is called.
Learning the names of tools, functions, stuff like that is the foundation, getting good and improving your skills with them is the never ending process.
Watching basic tutorials are mad boring though and hard to pay attention to but remembering what stuff is named is the key.
By far the first skill you have to learn is good search skills to get started.

yeah man anyone who wants to learn some good tips, go to the adobe site, or when you open your program there should be a link in the welcome window. They got lots of vids for every program, they even got mini convention things on tour, if you got the cash and wana see it in person or whatever you might wanna look into it.

you can also just google what you want, i.e. "chrome text photoshop" and a bunch will come up.

also, look into the classroom in a book they got, some of it is pretty dull, but they teach you the technique and you can apply it to whatever you want after you master it. Good books, and you might be able to find pdfs somewhere online.

What's funny is he said "CD Cover". He was talking about the "Album Cover", not the disc itself

Johnny - nice stuff but on the subway car cd, the type used in the metro is out of place I feel
I know it's past work but if your bored play around with a different one to make it a better portfolio piece

that was literally the first project i had ever done.....prolly about 8 years ago.....i got into & learned PS while doing that project.... it was rereleased lrecently & i did the cover for the re-release....if i can find the new cover i will post it...

if you did that bottom one in photoshop then you just made the file size about 40x bigger for no reason

I feel I work quicker in photoshop compared to illustrator
it's really not that much worse once it's setup to be printed
once a file is like 5'x2' it's a big file anyway

Issue.

I'm working on a water mark to place on my pics.
I have the text the way I want it but I'm having trouble removing the background.
I just want the text so I can copy and paste on all the necessary photos.
How do I do it?

Thanks

watson
01-09-2011, 09:53 PM
Did you make the watermark or is it a random picture
I'd have to see what your talking about because I would just select what needs to be erased
Then have it on its own layer

rushawn wuan
01-09-2011, 11:42 PM
the watermark is just text with a few effects.

Hey I was just wondering how much do you (or anyone else) charge for photo fixing?

r1char
03-15-2011, 12:11 AM
depends on the photo and extent of restoration or "fixing"

03-15-2011, 08:35 PM

Just wanted to know since I was thinking about getting into that as well.

I get bored and photo edit.
I work with GIMP, but I assumed it would be fine to post shit here...since it's the same general concept.

Here's some examples lol:
These are all pictures of me that I've edited except for the band one. I just do it for fun.

and this was super easy to photo edit, but really hard to take with a self timer. I ended up looking sooo awkward.

http://i653.photobucket.com/albums/uu260/goodfella2903/turt.jpg

the body nor the head was designed by me, I just collaborated the pieces and added spikes for good measure, a little bit of color matching for the body and head helped...
