What does it say, Nile? I can't really find anything wrong with your piece except its kind hard to make out what it says. Other than that everything else is on point, colors, extension, fill and force field. I even like the chain and eyeball. Just work on your letter structure. Especially the N if that’s what it is.

I see the term letter structure thrown around so much these days
on these boards but still hardly anyone truly understands what it is.

For starters, imaging you are building your letters with boards of wood.
The boards are all the same size but you can cut them to make them
shorter if needed. The boards can be bended to create curves but they
do not get wider or skinnier; they stay the same width in all areas.

I know that's not the greatest explanation but it's easier to show with
images than with words and I don't have time to post anything up right
now. Maybe if I get some time later I'll post something so you can get
a better understanding of what I mean. But start with that.

Flux, I have a set of Prismas, i use them for other things besides graff and i have been using them since i have been a kid for the most part (my dad used them_ anyway thats what i use, i love them and i love how they color, but i used to use prisma colored pencils which are also the shit when u press hard enough you get a real good texture

groove, basically what hes saying abotu letter structure is make it all the same width and thickness throughout the letter...i dont really understand why people want this so much because besides the old shcool most newer shit does not stay the smae width it stays in relativity and peopel understand how to make it look but when you go to a right angle from one peice alot of times the horizontal bars will be thinner... or vice versa...but when your beginning and dont do extensions or anyhtign liek that and workign on simples you hsoudl work on your structure in a way to keep the entire peice in one thickness...if you cant understand that i cant explain any better...

actyaulyl groove, your peice does have rather good structure it just needs to keep the smooth lines no little indents and outdents liek rinkles on the edge...just stay clam and smooth whiel drawing and dont shake or jerk/twitch your hand whiel drawing...so if you keep the lines clean and smooth your peice would look pritty good but id recommend witching it so the left side of the "v" is the higher not the irght so it wont be confused with a "j"

The easiest way to explain graffiti to you, is to compare it to skateboarding. Because from my knowledge alot of graffiti writers skateboard, and if you dont theres at least some chance you'll be able to understand the correlation.

in skateboarding you have the ollie, if you cant ollie you cant kickflip or heelflip, and if you cant kickflip or heelflip, you cant progress on to more advanced flip tricks. if you couldnt ollie you couldnt get up curbs very well or onto ledges to do slides and grinds. In skateboarding the better you get at simple tricks, the better youll be at more advanced tricks. I'm pretty sure most people in there first couple months of skateboarding dont try to do handrails down stairs, let alone flip trick into the rail flip trick out. Im pretty sure most of you wouldnt even try it, it would look really bad and youd hurt yourself. The only reason you try to to do the equivalent in graffiti, is because it doesnt physically hurt you to do so, but it looks just as bad.

In graffiti, you start off with tags, they are the starting point, they teach you how letters are shaped. The better your tags the better the rest of your graffiti will be. Next come throw up's, the throw ups get you used to drawing letters that arent like handwriting, but are drawn out. Also by doing throwups and tags with paint, you will get can control the more you do them. Alot of the effects that you see people do with paint, are things you just sort of pick up the more you write, and the more you write the better youll be with paint. After youve gotten good at throwups and tags, you should start doing simple simple simple simple pieces, they should be more like throws with straighter letters, and then you should start doing straight straight letters, then once your good at those you can start varying them into not so straight letters. And keep on going with that for a while, and then you can start doing more and more complex pieces. can you see the similarity?

Just call them pieces, wildstyle is a very archaic and antiquated term unless your reffering to the 80s and before. Each one of these stages of style can last for a long time. Your never going to stop working on any of these areas, if you stop getting better at tags, youll stop getting better at pieces, its like the cogs in clockwork.

Just get sheets and sheets of paper, don’t evne bother wasting black book space for this, do the same styles 1000s of times, over and over and over. Once you have a good tag and throwup you can actually start getting up and getting respect, some people only have a good tag and a throwup, and that’s all they need.

Legal piecing and productions is something left for writers who have been in the game for hella, have put in hella street cred (usually), and have elevated to the point where they can do those things.

You wont be there for years. I started writing when I was in 5th grade and I’m 20 now, and these are things I really didn’t start realizing till I was 14, and didn’t actually “get� the idea till I was 16. I don’t think theres any experienced writer out there that would disagree with anything im saying, other than that im prolly wasting my time telling you, cause I guarantee you wont listen. Graffiti takes years.

I made some examples of how the progress should look, remember used this loosely except for the vogue straight letter as your first piece, that’s exactly what people mean by simple, in almost every country in the world. Compare these examples to there corresponding styles in your area this isn’t the style guide this is just the basic evolution guide.

I just thought I would illustrate it for you guys. These aren’t my flicks, obviously, I just linked them hella quick. To show the progress better.

ive been drawing for a couple months just thought i would post a recent drawing.any advice or help is welcome.

I dont think any of you actually want advice, you just post your stuff, and ask for help, but when someone gives you help, you ignore it.

graffiti is hella simple, like its less of an art, and more of a mathematical equation. Start simple, be simple for a really long time. thats all there is to it. your going to get more respect being simple, then doing wierd 3d. have a simple throwup, and a simple tag, and get up with it. All the dope graffiti writers youve ever seen anywhere, started that way.

some color advices, never use 2 light colors, like a white fillin and a light yellow out line, and never 2 dark, like dark blue with a black outline. the colors should contrast. Black/white, yellow/red, silver black, white/red.

dont buy paint ever (i wont tell you how to get it, use your imagination), especially if your under 18,

the only spray caps youll really need for a very long time, is a stock, and a fat.

you dont need hella crazy markers, sure there cool, but dont waste money buying big markers off the internet.

the best pens are silver and gold paint pens, meanstreaks, mops (ink in a shoe polish applicator), and a black marker of some kind.

write graffiti like people in your city, you might htink another citys style is dope, and it probably is, but the reason they write that way, is because of how graff evolved in there city, your citys style is a direct descendant of the first writers in your city, and a distant descendent of the first graffiti writers period, are you really going to diss every writer that ever held it down for your city, by trying some style from a place you dont even live. im not saying all the shit should look the same, but citys definitely have distinct styles.

the only paint youll need for a while, is white and black rusto, dollar paints dont work well on alot of surfaces because they have less pigments, if your going to write on smooth surface and your not going over hella other graffiti, they would work fine, other spots dollar paints just absorb into the surface and cant be seen unless your very close to the spot.

since paint is free, why would you have dollar paint anyway. its a waste of money to buy cans (unless your like 35, or have warrants, hella past convictions, probation, etc) and its an even bigger waste of money to buy fancy paint on the internet. its good paint, and there is difference, but just cause theres a toy ass tag, in a hella thick and dope purple color, its still a toy ass tag, a toy ass tag that cost hella money.

stop saying wildstyle, theres either straight letter pieces, or pieces. saying wildstyle is outdated.

its like saying "phat", or "talk to the hand".

also any one that comes on here, and has 10 people tell him his shits not toy and shouldtn post there, is 10x as toy any other toy on here, he knows hes dope enough to impress you cats, but hes obviously not getting respect elsewhere.

Its like being 22 with a hella nice car, and hanging out around high schools, malls, and roller rinks, looking for 15 year olds, except without the creepy sex. think about it

oh yeha dont change the k or the s, those are the sick ones, make your a so its not a retarded peanut, and make it closer to the same size as the other letters.

Let me tell you guys the biggest help I have found lately. I know I am completely toy but this is hardly about style and all that other stuff.

The truth is you really do need to stay simple and the best thing that you can do is go out and find another writer to --->TEACH<---
you how to write graffiti.

In fact i finally met a writer the other day and was showing him some of the shit i was posting on here, he told me to scrap it and start from the beginning. I was like what? it is not that bad, and he said you shouldnt be doing this yet, you have been trying for 3 months and your trying to do crazy shit.

So he put me back on the HANDSTYLE, and that is what i have been doing for the past week, I bought a dry erase board and have been practicing my handstyle, One thing that i also learned is that sometimes some of your simple pieces will grow from your handy as well

so people here who are trying to do it on your own, go find someone, find someone who even if they arent the best in the city, they can still teach you the basics, the basics opened so many doors for me and made me understand what the fuck people were talking about when they say letter structure. You have to learn letter structure in its simplest form, SINGLE LINES

Anyway ill post some new handys when i get my camera back to working

groove champion i suggest you delete those pics and never show them again cuz quite honestly they're the worst ive seen... just look thru all the pages of the HANDSTYLES thread, and check out what looks good.. lose the arrows, all the other unnecessary bullshit and make the letters flow.. all i see is ragged jumbled letters put together.. once you get a feel for handstyles, bombs and pieces should come easier.

that kief is one of the best attempts ive seen, black flux stop doing that gay 3d shit, thats not graffiti, i know you probably jock daim, look at his early work, it wasnt 3d, he got that style after he learned simple letters. that 3d is a gimmick, to mkae your shit look better than it actually is to people who dont know shit about graffiti, and i will post an example, give me a few days.

stale you've got your effects under control and your letter formations are pretty dope aswell.

roler if you added some fresh effects to that piece it would be my fave on this page

coon i'd try and keep more solid letter formations until your comfortable with the way you can construct your letters and add a bit of colour cos that always help makes the pieces look three times as good
