this is how you should start doing your 3d, dont worry about fancy schmancy stuff, this is also how you should be writing like your painting with a roller, get the feel for make clean consistent letters over and over and over, later ill explain how to make a letter have more style, you will though use a letter like this as a base.

all you do is draw lines the same width going left from all the points on the left side, you have to think of the letter as an actual object not a letter, its formed of bars, any left edge of the bar needs to have 3d to give it that popping effect.

then all you do is fill it in, sadly this took 30 seconds in photoshop, you probably cannot do better on paper.... this is how you should be writing, if i were to draw this same thing out it would look better and cleaner than 99% of the crap posted in here and it is just arial bold with 3d.

that EMK is a pretty clean simple, im not gonna be to harsh but that K is hurtin.. if you make the main veritcl part of the E more consistent in size it will look better, make the K in the same style and not so skinny

But be honest with ya'll, I think the biggest difference between the experienced and less experience is finishing what you started. And that doesn’t mean extensions, color and force fields. I’m talking about the adding the 3D to your letters.

do straight letters to practice keeping the width of the letters all the same. go practice UNDER A BRIDGE with paint, its not like drawing with a pencil. just dont go over anybody that looks like they are good. once you can do basic letterforms good, keeping the width and size of your letters the same, and you understand what exactly makes up a letter, you can THEN reinvent letterforms to suit your style. it will help tremendously when you try to paint your first peice or try to come up with a throwie.

you have no flow, what you guys lack is a balance a good flow and consistent letter styles throughout the same piece, as in it looks like you pieced together a few different letters that may look good alone but look horrid together. find any good writer and youll find someone whos pieces look like theyre supposed to be one PIECE not a bunch of half assed letters "pieced" together ;) hence why im so big on simples because it teaches consitently but maybe you should listen to that toy who says go out and paint your wildstyle burners all over the place and be mocked for ever....
