Spiewak always has some nice heavy duty winter jackets for the -30° sufferers.
I like the one I bought a few years ago so much i'm taking it to a local seamstress to re-work it and make it fit better.
If your gonna get a TNF jacket.. get something with GORE TEX.. hyvent sucks by the way. only close to gore tex is ULTREX, which is the material they used on the vintage TNF Steep Tech's.
Heres my list of TNF jackets:
99 Mountain Guide. Black/Black.
Search and Rescue. Red/Black/Klevlar
Heli Pro. Brightass Blue/Black
99 Kitchana. Blue/dark dark Blue(almost black)
picked this up this burton jacket today on sale for 140, dropped from 190. i suggest if u live near a bob's clothing store to get a jacket there, they have a sale on a bunch of snowbaording and winter jackets (heli, quicksilver, burton, columbia, etc.)
its all about the layers especially in chicagoland
where the cold cuts through clothes like a knife.
go with a hoodie under a sherpa jean jacket.
then rock a scarf over the hoodie but under the sherpa.
that is what i rock and it keeps me nice and toasty.
peace.
