still cant log into my account. I still wanna use the oontz, but it doesn't seem as if it wants me here. I've sent emails 2-3 times now and never get a response.
I hate it when i try and post, but get told i have to sign in only to be told I'm already signed in followed by signing out of 'not being signed in' so i can be redirected to some social media profile and have to find and re-click forum and search for the thread - mind you without the useless search function provided by the forum (that's a whole 'nother rant) - just so i can drop an animated gif or chime in.
Is this a firefox problem? or is this the whole site? because it might have something to do with forum activity as of late

no this is the site.
there is going to be a forum relaunch, or i thought there was anyway, at some point so i don't know how much this place will still look like it does, and how much will become more like that new account page we're forced to go through before getting to the forum
i understand your frustration, i have to go through the same stuff and i'm not happy about it.
but. this has never been -my- site and i don't pay the bills. hence it is not my vision.
all in all in over a decade i think we've gotten a lot out of the place, and i'll stick around for that

Do you have contact with the guys running this place?
I'm willing to stick around also, but to be honest things have quite changed for the worst,
this is going on for months now, and it just looks like nobody is giving a shit to be honest.
I'm having a hard time believing it's a money issue, with all the ads the site is loaded with.
Re: New login/ account page -

yes,
but read it carefully.
there is a guy who started this site. it's his place. the costs of running this place are huge and since he not only started the place but also handles all the bills, he gets to do what he wants with it. it also means it sometimes takes a backseat to the myriad other things he's got going on in life. but this place is his so the future of it is up to him.

Extend the logout period of the forum login to the same period as the account login and there really wouldn't be an issue. Money is not required. I've been admin on boards with 20k members and we ran off of selling $5 stickers... The front page content is a different story, I usually just pluck public press to fill that, so a different scenario here.
I'm just wondering where everyone is going? Or how long it takes for someone to create a place for people to go? The uniqueness of the 12 is what makes it awesome, but also what makes the need for a new place to go that works seem like a sound idea.

Thanks for your reply symbols.
Somehow I was under the impression that this place is run by a group of people, not mainly one guy.
Of course there will be more pressing things going on in his life than this forum.
Of course he 'gets to do what he wants with it'.
If that means that the forum-part of 12ozprophet.com is going to be euthanized then so be it.
But isn't it sad?
Like theprotester said - the uniqueness is what makes it awesome.
When this place dies there will be others, but it won't be the same.
I watched SR die years ago, and also AF's, and while I understand the background it's still a shame.
And if this place, with all it's history, is dying simply because people are being put off as they are not able to login..
..bonkers, isn't it?

tahnks. happy holidays.
i think that is what confuses so many people, honestly.
raven started this when he was a student as a way to keep in touch with friends and shit. i don't think he anticipated it growing like it did. it literally is ONE person who makes the decisions.
i'm happy for other websites, running off stickers and such. i can't make much of a statement about why the financial side of the site wasn't exploited well, because i had literally nothing to do with that. i've heard the cost of this place is in the thousands-per-month. but i can't say with certainty. and i don't know how having our servers in another country affects our pricing.
just keep in mind folks, this started in 1999. the magazine well before that and that died. nothing stays the same forever, and one of the things that made this place special was the community. a large part of that community is now gone. it's ok, we move on.

Happy holidays to you too.
Yes, a large part of the community is now gone.
Why?
As far as I know because they often were not able to login. For months.
While the other parts of 12oz like daily news are lively and taken care of, the forum part isn't.
It really is like showing the whole community the middle finger, isn't it.
Can't really make a statement about the financial side either,
but let's just say it's very hard to believe that money really is an issue here -
there are almost 150k (!) registered users on this board, and there's quite a lot of ads from rather big companies.
You'd think that would pay for some servers.
Well, maybe the time has come - nothing lasts forever, no.
Just the way this is happening makes me shake my head.
Like, it's not rocket science to fix that log-in bullshit.
And, as I said, in my opinion it's like like saying "fuck it / fuck you"
to all the people who contributed, who have basically made this what it is today.

I took a few months off 12oz but didn't go to any other forums or anything like because they aren't 12oz.
This place still has a community (albeit small) I know people are fed up of login issues etc, but I honestly can't really think of another forum I would use.
Fuck knows the forum is pretty much left up to the users to create content and a lot of people just post the same meaningless shit so that gets stale after a while.
Credit Cards & Apple Pies
Lord give me patience because if you give me strength I may beat someone to death.
i have an idea, one of you guys should start up a forum
then we can all go there.
you certainly seem to know a lot about it.
/not even being sarcastic, i'd be interested to see someone try and see what happened.
I've been involved in three major forum splits already, and however seriously you think people take the internet, double it. Law suits, cease and desist, enough legal mumbo jump to make my head spin. I vowed to never be on either end of a forum split ever again.
@Decy: Was wondering if we'd lost another one for good. Glad you're back. Dead right, forums rely on user created content.

Yeah, I also help out on another forum, both with content, advertisers and promotion (much less now than I used to). Forums are costly more so in time than money....., and I have neither to spend on destroying the enjoyment I get out of using the net.
I'm not trying to bitch, because this site is free and no one forces me to come here. However I still stick by my previous call that when our passaround blackbook deal is all said and done I'll be content with lurking a few of the brickslayer and paperchase threads and that will be it for me here. The shine has dulled, for whatever reason.

I'm just saying some of us have donated significant amounts of money to this forum during projects and via premium accounts. Therefor it maybe free to a majority but some have paid dues regardless of their status now. Just saying. I had premium for 3 years and I can only login 50% of the time.

Yeah, the probs on this forum were pretty obvious to me back in 2007 and I told myself there was no way in hell I'd put money in for access that could drop out at any minute. Not trying to say anyone else was more fool for doing so, I was just able to recognise some issues I'd seen elsewhere previously. The most glaring was that there were a large amount of moderators on here but only very few doing anything positive for the forum (they were mostly either non-existant or ego tripping). Symbols is the only mod I can see that actually does anything here, Earl and others got out because of the probs, from what I remember.
That stuck out like dog's balls to me as an omen of no good. I believe my analysis has pretty much been satisfied.
Sorry to hear that you've had otherwise unfortunate experiences.

Sorry, did not want to imply that I 'know a lot about it' / be a smartass, just saying
- it would be sad if this place died (and it, in part, already has)
- it's hard to believe the log-in bullshit is rocket science
- it's hard to believe money is the issue, given all the ads
- admin / mods not giving a fuck is like showing all that helped building this the middle finger
Yes, one could make a new forum - but why not retrieve this place?
- would it really be that hard?
- wouldn't it be worth it?

i like 12oz. and i dont mind logging in daily. what i dont like is when it logs me out 3 times a day. if i could log in, and stay locked in until the next morning...that would be grand.
Going to continue my complaint/rant by adding that the 'forgot my password' password that I get sent to my e-mail does not work. I am unable to log into my account anymore - this happened after my previous password was apparently 'wrong.'
So. that's tight.
