Great/Noteable Moving Pictures~

PLEASE OBSTAIN FROM POSTING STUPID CORNY NON-SENSE

Such as "huhuh,Remember that part in American Pie,huhuh"...

Big box office releases are really not worth recommending,
unless exceptional ,
or particular to the interests of the group...
Reviewing "The Island" and "Batman Begins" is what film critics and newspapers are for...

The purpose of this thread is to bring light to forgotten and/or Lesser-known movies..

Don't go see "The Holy Girl".

Unless you're a fan of Van Sant's "Elephant" and the other two movies he made with the same style ("Last Days", "Gerry"), you'll be VERY fucking annoyed.

"Crazy"

-Heddy Honigmann

Dutch Language/ English Subtitles

CRAZY is a film about the reminiscences of several Dutch UN soldiers about various battlefields were they served; memories that are inextricably bound up with one special song that brought solace far from home. Starting with the very first UN mission to Korea (1950), the film takes us on a journey to the Lebanon, Cambodia, Rwanda and former-Yugoslavia - to end up with the Fall of Srebrenica in 1995. Using home videos and photos, moving and also gruesome archive footage, the soldiers tell their moving stories about responsibility, consternation, fear, love, total impotence and death.
CRAZY is a very personal journey through the world of Dutch UN veterans through music.

Excellent movie

Web Site from the Production Group

This film is quite difficult to obtain,
You'll likely have to contact the production group to recieve a direct copy.

But if you have the SUNDANCE CHANNEL, (101 in New York City)
it will air on Monday, August 8th at 4:15 EST

This movie is as real as it gets.

"City Of Ghosts"

PRODUCTION TEAM
Willi Bar
Michael Cerenzie
Deepak Nayar

SCREENWRITERS
Matt Dillion
Barry Gifford

STARING
Matt Dillion
James Caan
Natascha McElhone
Gerard Depardieu
Kem Sereyvuth
Stellan Skarsgard

Bugged out and ironic story of an organized con-artist group that sold fake insurance , banked the profits in Swiss accounts and left New York when the FBI caught up to the scheme.
The majority of the film takes place in Cambodia and features the country as one of the stars itself.
The vibe of the country bleeds through the movie, and you truely get a feel for being there.
The plot is suprisingly life-like in the sense that it is a typical order of events and characters that surround the aftermath of a large-scale fraud scheme.
Greed, love, beauty and murder all play important roles in the twisting story.
Excellently written and excellently filmed, this movie will surely stick in your memory.

And if Peurto ricans are pro- niggerated then why not Mexicans and if not Mexicans then you might as mell include Cubans into niggerdom and while we're at it , people from spain should get the nigga pass too right? Even the Blond haired blue eyed big pimpin spain niggaz is like whoah. So, spain is right next to sicily with them olive- skinned gangsta pasta niggaz. And what about the sand niggaz, tan in a can niggaz, standin on the beach greek fat hairy speedo niggaz, kung fu niggaz, young fool niggaz, eskimo niggaz, frown niggas and grin niggas, yah dood Lynn niggaz.

This is 2005. and where I've been, I see all types using the word nigga. It depends on the context it's being used and by who. Some white dudes can get by saying nigga standing next to 20 black dudes, Some places you go, if youre white and you refer to Black folks as "black" they'll look at you funny nevermind "nigga" These types prefer "African american" so , me I'm like whatever, man, I've seen the most Bob Dobolina tight butt Bryant Gumbell black dudes who would get laughed out of the hood while white and asian dudes get over fine in these same spots. The Corporation (2003)

Not by me:

"This is a very well-intentioned and fascinating film. The corporate world stands - justly- accused of creating a demand for goods that we do not need, which are helping to destroy the atmosphere, but which allow the corporations to make lots of money. It would seem that the bottom line is all that matters and that institutional America - especially the Supreme Court in their decision to treat corporations as people (contrary to the framers' of the 14th Amendment's wishes) - has permitted the real people of the United States to be hoodwinked into buying (literally) into the deal."

It's ok, if you like demonizing corporations (I do).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wonderland (2003)

Summary:

On the afternoon of July 1, 1981, Los Angeles police responded to a distress call at 8763 Wonderland Avenue in Laurel Canyon and discovered a grisly quadruple homicide. Ron Launius (Lucas), Billy Deverell (Nelson), Barbara Richardson (Wagner) and Joy Miller (Garofalo) were found brutally murdered, bludgeoned to death with a pipe, and Launius's wife, Susan (Applegate), was left in critical condition. The police investigation that followed--led by detectives Sam Nico (Levine), Louis Cruz (Frankie G. ) and Mike Peters (Gainey) --would unearth a seedy world of drugs and violence, ultimately revealing a motley crew from L. A. 's underbelly including ex-con David Lind (McDermott), nightclub impresario Eddie Nash (Bogosian), and porn legend John Holmes (Kilmer) as well as Holmes's estranged wife Sharon (Kudrow) and his teenage lover Dawn Schiller (Bosworth).

It's good. Watch it.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Chopper (2000)

Summary:

Chopper tells the intense story of Mark "Chopper" Read, a legendary criminal who wrote his autobiography while serving a murder sentence in prison. His book, From the Inside, upon which the film is based, was a best-seller.

Good fuckin movie, fun to watch. His books are wildly fucking entertaining, very much recommended. Eric Bana plays Chopper excellently.

American Pie - Dude, you gotta see this one part where this kid totally sticks his dick in a pie because he thinks that's... well, I won't spoil it for you, see it for yourself!

huh huh

Seriously:

Human Traffic - The Cardiff club scene in the 90's: five best friends deal with their relationships and their personal demons during a weekend. Jip calls himself a sexual paranoid, afraid he's impotent. Lulu, Jip's mate, doesn't find much to fancy in men. Nina hates her job at a fast food joint, and her man, Koop, who dreams of being a great hip-hop d.j., is prone to fits of un-provoked jealousy. The fifth is Moff, whose family is down on his behavior. Starting Friday afternoon, with preparations for clubbing, we follow the five from Ecstacy-induced fun through a booze-laden come-down early Saturday morning followed by the weekend's aftermath. It's breakthrough time for at least three of them.

"An acclaimed and controversial film that is a visual poem about metaphysics, Creation, the Death of God, and the birth of nature. Filmed in deep, rich black and white, this gorgeous work has been compared to David Lynch's ERASERHEAD. It is permeated with the sensations of a particularly vivid and perverse dream, or a fully engrossing hallucination."

i can tell you with confidence that this is one of the best movies ever made. show it to your hipster friends in art/film school and watch them not get it.........

You're joking right? The Big Lebowski and the Boondock Saints were both well known movies...The Big Lebowski I would highly recommend..I am not familiar with the Crow, what is it about? Is it recent?

Anyway, Biggus, you're the scum of the earth. Really, is ignorance true bliss? You are what takes a great thing like meaningful and original hip hop and lets it turn into doctored, marketable, talentless garbage. You let great forms of art beocme corporate tools because you feel that if it isn't acclaimed by the idiotic public of american then it is obviously shitty. I mean, why else would we watch it if it isn't famous?

I recently took a film literature class, some of these recommendations are things that I saw there, some not.

Wonderful movie the whole way through. Depicts an italian family sent to a concentration camp and the father's attempt to shield his son from seeing and realizing the horrors of the place, as well as protect his life. See it, especially if you care at all about the holocaust.

Documentary about two chicago public high school students trying to work their way into the NBA and college, while still facing problems like poverty and familial problems.

Yes, this is what movie that stupid online picture of the curb stomping with the bold white text saying "Owned" is from. Weird that I ended up picking 2 movies involving anti-semetism, but anyhow, this is by far one of my favorite movies. Powerful message, great film making. It covers a neo-nazi and what happens to him as he progresses the movement of a white-supremisist agenda.

I hope some of you actually check these out. For info about movies including message boards and reviews, hit up www.imdb.com

I recently watched this after Tarantino name-dropped it as "the toughest film ever".

It isn't. At all. But it's worth a laugh or two, especially how badly-planned out most of it seems. There's totally unnecessary porno shots in it, and almost every death is in super slo-mo (1000 frames a second or so) and takes forever to end. Also, after investing some time in showing how the main character trains to be a stunt driver, they seem to run out of money to coordinate a decent car chase, so instead they show the chick driving down lonely country roads and pushing completely random cars out of the street, where they explode upon hitting a small bush or any object of similar density. Ah, and they also slice a real eyeball (off a corpse) á la "Un Chien Adalou". Check it out if you enjoy crappy exploitation films and hairy vaginas.
