Bring back the irc,
in terms of security, you can pretty much weed out who is who in there, and adding things like a password makes it even more so. The efnet channels, although free, were a little laggy on my end. Does anyone know how much it costs to run one these days?
this is what i was talking about when i mentioned security.
it freaked me out everytime my ip would show up....even though most of the people in irc were trusted members and found out about it through word of mouth, i was worried about it being infiltrated by popo.
tinfoilhat oner.

IPs aren't that big of a deal since most people are on cable, which assigns IPs to blocks of users and not individuals. DSL is slightly more of an issue, but as I recall we never really talked about anything too incriminating in IRC.
If I were to land somewhere a little more established where I could set up a server I'd consider doing this, but I'd have to hand off the admin stuff while I go traveling (usually early summer).

lots of times on those huge networks, like comcast, the average computer user can only triangulate your general location
there probably is a very easy way, if you're the NSA or really good with computers, to find out the GPS location of someone's bedroom based on their IP, but in my experience, much more often you get a neighborhood or zip code.
i've gotten pretty lucky, using some of my neighbor's networks or the ones at university that make my precise location tougher to determine.

The feature is called "geo-tagging" a lot of cameras have this feature nowadays.
Posting raw images online can expose a great deal of info if you aren't careful.
I recommend stripping all metadata from images.
There is this handy tool called exiferaser.
(Pros: user interface, Cons: windows limited)
Instructions: Download, run, pretty self explanatory. source
Also, theres another one called jhead.
Instructions: Download/save/move jhead.exe to desired folder, open command console, navigate to desired folder, execute command "jhead.exe * -purejpg", impress your friends.
(Pros: command line, cross-platform, Cons: Not for the avg user) source
Dude, lucky I saw this. don't usually look at feedback section!
But fuck yeah, irc that shit hardcore. However in your face java access or something may be better over having to use mIRC every time, and it'd prolly gain the attention of more users.
a one month testing period? I'm no good at covering my tracks / anonyminity. Doesn't https:// instead of http:// help? n00b
IRC and http/https are completely different protocols. I don't think https would help your speed/latency much if you were trying to login via something web-based like Mibbit or Meebo.

yeah, gotta be really careful with the digi photos
in the comments section on the utah/ether blog post referencing this shit (see link), there is something about jstrip, a program that apparently takes all that exif data off. dunno. but, i generally don't post my flicks on the net. and never ever incriminating shit.
