PALINGENESIS

This article was posted by Gorey 3 weeks, 5 days, 20 hours, 7 minutes ago.

Klughaus, in collaboration with LRG and Brisk, is excited to announce PALINGENESIS, a special pop-up exhibit in New York City’s Lower East Side featuring Gorey and Paris’ prolific PAL (Peace and Love) Crew. The group exhibition features a roster of internationally-renowned artists including GOREY, HORFE, CONY, TOMEK, SAEYO, MOSA, ESSO and SKUB.

One of the most prominent graffiti crews in Paris, PAL is united by its members’ shared love of creative expression. With GOREY as a forefather, PAL has developed a unique movement and style of graffiti that is completely its own. While there is a complicated, yet fascinating line between graffiti and fine art, the collective has made a seamless transition into the art world in a tasteful way that does not categorize the work as simply “graffiti,” yet sustains the collective’s distinct styles and energy within a gallery setting.

The PALINGENESIS exhibition will showcase the collective’s debut in the United States as well as its artistic re-birth as evolving fine artists. Gorey & PAL’s incorporation of fine art elements into their work on the streets is pushing the concept of graffiti in a new and refreshing direction and we are thrilled to collaborate on their stateside debut.

The exhibit will be on display through May 19, 2013, you can jump on vimeo to see a great video here:

Shot him in the ass on the downstroke

Feeling pretty nostalgic over this post as “A Bizarre Ride” was released over twenty years ago ! The Pharcyde to me was the real sound of NYC, embodying the fun, positive and no bullshit hip hop that I was listening on rotation as a teenager. The bright side of this anniversary, and getting old I guess, is that a lot of DJs today are broadcasting gems left and right. Today I present you a ill combo of 12 Pharcyde remixes and rarities never heard before, made by Jimmy Plates from   Southern Hospitality, via   The World’s Best Ever.

Art Basel 2012 // IRONLAK

This article was posted by Gorey 3 months, 2 days, 10 hours, 37 minutes ago.

Bates beat me to it (what else is new) but I’d still want to shoot out to IRONLAK for hooking it up last december.

Left New York wearing a down jacket to land a couple hours later to short and tee shirt weather, pretty amazing feeling. I painted as much as I could since I barely get to do it in Nyc and had an amazing five days. Here’s a couple pieces that haven’t been around the blogs too much for you to enjoy.

Big up to everyone I met there, hope to see you next year !

Special thanks to my man Astre, Pucho, Quake, Cushy gigs & Msg Fam, Victor, the Ironlak Team, Enue, Kems, Twigs, Rath, Klughaus crew, Jersey Joe, Toper, Smart crew, Guns…

This article was posted by Gorey 3 months, 5 days, 7 hours, 12 minutes ago.

Those of you that follow me on instagram already know about the launch of my label on the jeackthreads web site. This is the first instalement of Woolf and I did everything you see, from the brand identity, to designing the styles, and silhouette.

Fellow co-bloger Adam G was of great help to mentor me transitioning from the graphics world to the products and it’s been a fun very busy past six month. Hope you like the video lookbook done by Leighton Pope, and that you are curious enough to come check the sale on our site (prices are off the hook, quality is top notch and style will make you look good) http://www.jackthreads.com/sales/9594

The art of style writing

This article was posted by Gorey 4 months, 1 week, 1 Day, 19 hours, 6 minutes ago.

This is another aspect of style writing that I get inspired by. In a modern age where the computer is becoming the only tool for everything graphic I feel the urge to blast people like Jake Weidmann. When I receive mail from my step mom or her mother, I’m always stunned at how precise, innovative and neat the hand writing is. Penmanship used to be taught in schools, as grammar or geography is. The ability to transcript emotions and feelings through your own personal calligraphy is something unique and very precious. How often do we write to someone nowadays? Us graffiti writers practice the art of style writing. We reshaped the aesthetic codes and transformed the tools, but I believe it lays in the same foundations. Practicing and working on muscle memory to achieve a certain style, and build from it, deviates, innovations, complexification or even simplification. If you’re curious and want to see more of his work jump to his   website

I had tons of fun during Art Basel in miami, I will do a post really soon to show you how busy I stayed during those five days.
Klughaus is smart as usual, hooked up two trucks for us to paint on and was then driving them around the fairs with either a dj blasting music or a drum kit on top. Fun times !
