WHOPPER VIRGINS

Though rare, every so often an advertisement or ad campaign comes along that is just so brilliant that it goes beyond resonating with me, to fundamentally change my perception of the brand, product or service itself. Obviously, the goal of all advertisements are to compel people towards the consumption of the goods, services or ideas shown in the ads. How often that actually happens is probably far less than the brand, ad agency or people delivering the ads probably care to admit. Who really knows how many burgers will be sold as a result of this recent effort from Burger King, but I’ll admit I’ll be thinking of it (and chucking) long after the campaign expires…

Much respect to Crispen Porter + Bogusky for a job exceptionally well done.

FAITH

With all the doom and gloom in the news these days, these two shots really resonated with me. No doubt, a human standing on the moon is compelling subject matter. There’s great detail, good exposure, and a nice composition going in each photo. What makes these shots so significant, however, is that they represent what we as a country and as a people can achieve when we work together to overcome a huge challenge. Respect to the generation of American’s that came together and put a man on the moon. Hopefully we can all get the country back together and accomplish the sort of goals that will allow future generations to look back at us, with a similar sense of admiration and respect.

AUGUSTxKAWS

Today my friend Kimou invited me to join him and his daughter Rio to check out a recent solo show featuring Kaws at the Gering Lopez Gallery in uptown Manhattan. I was psyched to get the chance to check out the show since it’s not everyday Kaws has a solo show and I’ve been so slammed with work and moving that I still hadn’t made it over there yet. Lately I’ve been trying to expose my 3 year-old son August to art and photography, so I figured this might be a fun opportunity for a bit of both. Needless to say the works on display were amazing, and August had a great time taking pictures of them. The first shot of his sister Ava, August and his friend Rio is mine, but all the rest of the photos we’re taken by the little man himself…

KRINK AIR FORCE 1

KR just posted a little something about his recently released KRINK AF1 at 21 Mercer, but I thought I’d follow up since I took some shots of the event myself. Despite the cold weather, and a crowd of sneaker heads having just camped out for Clark Kent’s Black Friday AF1 the day before, a good hundred or so people lined up for a chance at scooping up one of KR’s drippy, 3M wrapped AF1’s. The first 30 heads received an unannounced signed copy of his book, and a bunch of people got specially packaged NSW x KRINK markers, as well as NSW x KRINK tee shirts. Another really great addition to the Nike 1World AF1 Series

21 MERCER SHOE OF THE DAY 11-30-2008

After a lot of travel, a ton of work, and a move that took me two weeks and included my longest period without internet since the late 1990’s, I’m finally back online and ready to start posting again. Some of you that know me personally also know that I’ve been working on a lot of great stuff you’ll all get to see pretty soon, including an all new version of 12ozprophet.com that includes a grip of new bloggers, and loads of new content. More on all that later…

This weekend I was over at Nike’s 21 Mercer Flagship Store for the Krink AF1 release with my son August, and people were really digging his Air Jordan 1’s. The staff were kind enough to decide that a three year old sporting Jordans were definitely the shoe of the day, so after a bribe which included a free lollipop, we convinced August to stand still for about a second and a half so they could snap his picture. Anyhow, congrats to August and thanks to the friendly crew at 21 Mercer! Here’s a link to the entry on the NSW Blog.

If you happen to be in New York City’s SoHo neighborhood, make sure and stop by. 21 Mercer stocks all the impossible to get Nike Sportswear Collection product and regularly stock exclusives and special releases.

Oh yeah, and make sure and tell ‘em August sent you…

SATURDAY MORNINGS & BREAKFAST OF CHAMPIONS

In an age of extreme political correctness, macrobiotic diets and hyper-nutrition it’s hard to imagine that most of us grew eating some of the cereals we did. In fact, its hard to imagine some of the cartoons and commercials we watched while sprawled out on the living room floor shoveling sugar pumped goodness into our mouths. Here’s my personal little homage to simpler times…

JON STEWART vs ELECTION ‘08

Seriously, why hasn’t a major network news station given Jon Stewart his own nightly segment? Jon has an uncanny brilliance for speaking the truths that established news outlets can’t seem to figure out. Props to you Jon, hopefully people get smart and put you front and center before November.

Sorry for being M.I.A lately. Doing big things here, and life has got me slammed.

On that tip, I just wanted to let you all know I put my Millionaire’s Collection Super Set up for sale on eBay since I just got in my Billionaire’s Collection Super Set.

***OH SNAP! UPDATE***
After getting my Billionaire Collection Super Set, my lady nagged me into getting new ice for her ring. So if you got it like that, I put her old one up on eBay.

CRACKDOWN ON INDECENCY

Must be nice to live in a place that has so few social issues to contend with that they can allocate tax payer money and resource to stomping out saggy pants…

YOU KNOW YOU’RE NOT THE FIRST.

No doubt this will have feminists up in arms the world-over, but I think it’s brilliant. An advertisement out of Greece for used BMW cars that features an ambiguously young girl looking seductive and willing with the tag line, “You know you’re not the first”. Sex, temptation and taboo wrapped around one powerful question that forces what I’d guess to be the nearly unanimous (and most likely emphatic) response of: Does it really matter?!

Clearly meant to be an analogy to the conundrum some people might wrestle with when considering the purchase of a used BMW, I feel it makes its point exceptionally clear. Regardless of whether you stand aroused or disgusted, it’s a tough ad to overlook or ignore. If nothing else, it certainly makes me think of used cars in a great new way.
