OK, first off… What the fuck man… I’ve been at war deep in the Creative Suite trenches so if reading a ‘Bill McMullen Blog’ is important to you, I apologize. I sorta hate blogs that talk about why the writer has been so silent, so I guess I can’t win with this direction. I apologize again. Let’s move on… it’s me, not you.

A while ago, I put up a post about how I did an iTunes search for ‘Police’ and I wound up with a great playlist. It sparked some interest and the comments were populated with great suggestions for more songs. Really cool. Well, last night, while working… OK, actually it was about 30 minutes ago, I’m still working. Anyway, I was listening to some crazy Hawkwind jam and the note progression reminded me of ‘Waiting for The Man’ by the Velvet Underground, and it put in my head that I wanted to hear it. So, I typed ‘waiting’ and wound up with this:

Awesome. Apologies to Sage Francis, but a 25-minute backpacker’s cipher is not on the agenda for the ‘09. I might skip that Gwen Stefani track too, which simultaneously bites Nina Hagen and Weezer’s ‘Hashpipe’. I guess I could have blurred that out.

I got alot more if you want to include songs with “wait” in the title

Ain’t No Fun (Waiting Around To Be A Millionaire)- AC/DC - Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap
Jesus is Waiting- Al Green- Call Me
I’m Still Waiting- Bob Marly- The Wailing Wailers (I believe his 1st studio album-not sure who wrote the song)
Waiting in Vain-Bob Marley- Exodus
Waiting For the End of The World- Elvis Costello- My Aim is True
Are We The Waiting-Green Day-American Idiot
Waiting for A Miracle- Jerry Garcia Band- Jerry Garcia Band (written by Bruce Cockburn)
Waiting on MyWings- The Word (band made up of Robert Randolph, Medeski, and the North Mississippi All Stars)-The Word
Waiting for the Worms- Pink Floyd- The Wall
Waitin’ For the Bus -ZZ Top- Tres Hombres (not sure if it counts cause there is no G at the end of waitin”)

and of course what should be near or at the top of the list…..

The Waiting- Tom Petty and the Heart Breakers- Hard Promises

PS It’s cool to see a Ronson post Foreigner

Fucking excellent songs suggestions, everyone! It’s a little embarrassing that I don’t already have many of those in my library… a Gwen Stefani song pops up in my iTunes search before Bob Marley, Pink Floyd, or Neil Young does? C’mon Bill, don’t go out like that! I will say the search becomes a little splintered as I have two machines, my main desktop, which has one library on it, and my laptop, which has a separate library which I DJ from… If the hardrives were larger I might completely mirror the libraries, but that would add up to about 100gigs of music!
Yeah, Matthew… I was wondering about that Ronson post myself! And another fine list - I remember your suggestions from the ‘police’ post too.

Thanks Bill….

Waiting On a Friend is probably my favorite on the list. A few cool things about it (that you probably know):

-The saxophone is played by Sonny Rollins.

-In the video, Mick and Peter Tosh are sitting on the stoop at 96-98 St Mark’s between 1st and A.  That building was also used for the cover shot of Physical Graffiti.  There was a vintage store called Physical Graffiti in the bottom.  Keith shows up and they go down the block to the St Mark’s Bar (RIP) on the corner of 1st Avenue.  (But you know all this cause the Swish store used to be there)

Peace

I never knew that was Peter Tosh. I haven’t seen that video for years… I’m heading to YouTube now. Thanks, Matthew!
