Steve Powers: Love Letter to Brooklyn

This article was posted by Chino 3 months, 1 week, 16 hours, 48 minutes ago.

The conversation about a  Love Letter to Brooklyn began in 2010. Steve is an old friend. I have followed his work since the days of On The Go. I’m a fan of the work he produced with the  Philadelphia and  Syracuse Love Letter projects, so needless to say I was excited to hear a Love Letter to Brooklyn was in the works.
The Fulton Mall is a short walk away from where I grew up in Fort Greene. Downtown Brooklyn has served as the backdrop for many enduring memories. The words that decorate the Macys parking garage were inspired by conversations about Brooklyn, between Steve and I. The mural begins on Hoyt Street and wraps around the block to Livingston and Elm with the last bit of the mural facing Fulton Street. I have a deep-rooted connection to the work, the location and the borough of Brooklyn. I am humbled, proud and thankful for the opportunity. BIG thanks to Joe Chan with the Downtown Brooklyn Partnership, Andrew Peerless and Jamestown Properties and Macys for making this all possible. An extra special thank you to the team at ICY signs and Steve Powers for the wonderful service he has provided for the place I call home.

Hoyt and State St

The part of the mural facing Fulton Street reads HOME. It is visible from Flatbush Avenue - waiting to greet all that enter the Borough of Kings.
