I managed to catch the last hour or so of the TST Presents: Urban Legends show at Ski Bar in Bayridge, Brooklyn
last week. The group show was comprised of lots of former BMT and IND (letter line) writers, including a couple of
guys I use to paint with, circa 1985. It was nice to reconnect with old friends and faces, as well as meet a couple of
guys who’s work I’ve admired on trains. Below are handful of old photos of work by some of the writers I bumped into
that night, in no particular order:

It’s all fun and games until someone loses an eye…
While on a recent walk with my dog, as always, she paused beneath a tree to take in some of the new scents.
As I turned my head to walk away a tree branch poked, then scraped me across my eye leaving severe abrasions
over my cornea. I’ve been (accidentally) maced, (intentionally) poked, elbowed and punched in my eye before,
nothing comes even close to the pain inflicted by the limb of my wooden assailant. This relatively unassuming tree
must have been part Redwood. Although my visions still a bit blurry I am grateful and very lucky there was no visible
or permanent damage to my eye. Yesterday the doctor removed the protective contact lens, it feels good to be able to
update my blog again. Some of the next few posts are stuff I was planning to post last week and earlier this week,
bare with me if some of this seems like old news. Big thanks to my friend Kenan for helping a blind man get to the
doctor.

Among the many people I was flattered to see at our book launch last week were Os Gemeos (Gustavo and Otavio).
After passing books back and forth they handed me a flier to their up coming show:
Too Far Too Close
June 28, 2008 — August 09, 2008
Deitch Projects
18 Wooster Street
New York, NY 10013
Os Gemeos (pronounced “ose zhe’-mee-ose.") are two artists from Sao Paulo, Brazil. Gustavo and Otavio Pandolfo
were born in 1974, identical twin brothers whose pseudonym, Os Gemeos, translates to “the twins” in Portuguese.
In addition to their incredible works created on the streets of Sao Paulo, the twins have in recent years exhibited their
art in museums all over the world.
In Too Far Too Close, they will be transforming the gallery into a fantastical cityscape with houses, doors, and passageways,
all brought to life with their signature style of imagery. Building upon a group of artworks created for the Museum Het Domein
in the Netherlands, this show features new paintings, sculpture, and installation bringing all the magical moments of their work
together in one tightly knit dream world of an exhibition.

Sometime last year I snapped a bunch of the old tags that were still in the hallway way of the building I grew up in.
For the past 20 plus years my family and neighbors had no idea these tags existed, they were only visible when you
stood beneath the light fixture and looked up into it. During a recent visit I noticed all of the old tags were finally painted
over, here are a few of photos of some of those tags. From top to bottom: KR, Veef (VFR), Cocer, Wolf AOK, Duel MCI,
ZU KT, Sueie CAC, Sez 7Ds, CS TFK, OD BTS, Chino, Cap MPC, Cro RIS, Teo MDC, Dez (SD RIP), Braer, Rae WIC,
Slo 7, RY TAX and Trim TNC…

The Belmont Stakes, the third and final leg of horse racings prestigious Triple Crown.
Comprised of three races for the top 3-year old thoroughbreds, there hasn’t been a
horse that’s won the Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes and the Belmont Stakes in
almost 30 years. With Casino Drive out of today’s race there is very little standing
between overwhelming favorite Big Brown and his quest for glory. Only 11 horses
have accomplished this rare feat since 1919 but none quite like the horse ESPN lists
at # 35 in their top 100 Greatest Athletes of the 20th Century, Secretariat.
Here is the super horse in his 1973 Belmont Stakes victory.

Casio celebrated the 25th Anniversary of the G-Shock watch last night at Guastavino’s in NYC. The gala event began
after a press conference with Spike Lee and Eric Haze, the evening ended with an impressive live performance by Kanye West.
The gift boxes contained a new Casio G-Shock watch worthy of making my post. A big thanks and congrats to Haze

One of my friends was recently working on renovations inside of the Pitkin Avenue Yard in East New York, Brooklyn
when he spotted this Vinny piece. He was kind enough to snap it with his camera phone and send it to me.
