I recently scanned a few of Dondi’s old books for my good friend Michael White (Dondi’s brother). Here are a couple of images from the recent scanning session.

The large format scanner is a beast. It makes this piece look much smaller than it actually is.

Or is it go big and then go home? MUL whole train by Chicago based graffiti crew “Made U Look.”
I first heard about this train through series of articles I read on Razor Apple back in 2007: http://razorapple.com/tag/whole-train/ 
For the record, I did not take any of these photos. They were all posted as a slide show on: http://www.madeulooknyc.com/ 
I took screen shots of the slide show and later pieced the images together in Photoshop.

According to Razor Apple the train clocks in at “750 feet of painted steel, this is a major feat for the so-called clean train era and a possible
record for biggest whole train painted in history.” Impressive! As far as I know, only 3 other whole trains have been painted here in NYC: 
“The Freedom Train” by Caine1, Mad 103 and Flame on July 4, 1976, The Fabulous 5’s “Christmas train” by: Lee, Doc, Slave, Mono and Slug,
Christmas 1977 and the “Clean train” whole train by Ghost, Ven, Wane, Lace 357, Remote… and friends, 1988.

Beatnuts Reloaded

The target years for our first book Piecebook were (roughly) 1975-1985, Piecebook Reloaded picks up where the last title left off.
There are more full color pages, 2 page spreads, tag and throw up pages as well as some other additions to the over all design of the book which I believe add a greater degree of authenticity.

When possible we scanned both sides of the illustrations so we could print the ink bleed through on the backside of the page.

Some photos from my recent trip France.

Sacha Jenkins and I were in Paris to host / judge a Piecebook Battle with Jon One at Foundation Cartier.

The event rules were simple. Contestants were given an hour and a 1/2 to turn over pieces in their books or on paper. 

The top 4 artist selected then had to reproduce their pieces on canvases set up behind the foundation.

In the end, Reso and Katre wound up splitting first place honors.

4:30am from the balcony of my hotel I spot these 2 guys street bombing.

Those same guys must have wrote this too.

I had a chance to catch up with Quik at the studio of Alain-Dominique Gallizia.
