Butt Johnson

While doing some internet research on butts, I stumbled upon the crazy ballpoint pen drawings of a guy calling himself Butt Johnson. Some of his work is little more than a hyper-detailed version of what you drew in 8th grade, others are beautiful juxtapositions of Islamic ornament and wrecked up automobiles.

It’s like MC Escher converted...to ball point pens.  I think the wrecked up cars are supposed to be exploded up car bombs.

yep. They’re car bombs from Iraq.

I like the picture ‘Et in Arcadia Ego’ by Butt Johnson. But who is the dude with the wig (is it a wig?) looking at the human skull (is he looking at it?) And why is there an animal (dog? sheep??) skull there, too?

Thanks Bill. The guy in the wig is an Oompa Loompa. The skulls are memento moris, and in this particular landscape are meant to evoke a certain girl from Kansas and her little dog, too.

Thanks Butt. So from left to right the characters are Ninja Turtle, Smurf, Oompa Loompa, ? with the rabbit ears, ? with the handle on his head, Sponge Bob, Bart Simpson and Twinky- Winky. Who are the two that I couldn’t identify? Also, what type of filler and paper did you use?

Pikachu has the rabbit ears, and the handle is a Snork “blowhole”..  I use a zebra F301 ballpoint pen and that one is drawn on handmade paper, but I also use bristol 2ply and lately have been drawing on mylar as well.
