Swoon’s new installation at Deitch Studios in Long Island City is one of the most impressive works I’ve seen this year. In case you hadn’t heard, she and her crusty vegan pirate army have built, not only a small armada of DIY steamboats and beautifully ramshackle yachts, but sailed them down the Hudson River for three weeks in a project called Swimming Cities of Switchback Sea. They landed sunday evening at the Deitch Studio where there is an immaculately decrepit life-sized shanty town populated by her signature social-realism paper-cut portraits. A-
