Stefanie Posavec’s work illustrates the organic geography of the written word.

These images from the Sheffield group show ‘Off The Map’ visualise the language structure used in Jack Kerouac’s novel On the Road. She’s developed rules to represent the rhythm of Kerouac’s language, the themes addressed within the book and the length of his sentences. Her work also shows how diverse the graphic response of mapping can be, her final designs having broken free from traditional mapping tools such as contours and grid lines.
