This brightened up my morning a couple of years ago. I literally laughed out loud and people looked at me bugged as I took the flic.
It loses in translation, but basically means: “Fuckin’ Gringos”.
* I guess this makes more sense when I mention that this flic was taken in the Bronx, on the IRT 6 line, at 138th St Station.
For those who still don’t get it, that is conveniently the first uptown stop in the Bx. Upstairs is the neighborhood that “they” have relabeled the enticing “SoBro” (South Bronx), and are hell bent on Williamsburging it out. It may be years before that takes place, but the area is already changing.
It’s not uncommon to spot an occasional hipster-doofus on their commute home, cowering past the Mitchell Houses at dusk, messed up hair, skinny jeans, smedium t-shirts and all. Ughh!
