In response to my Metaverse post, 12oz user ghostdog221 shared with me an article written in the NY times about Dr. Nick Bostrom’s, a philosopher at Oxford University, assumption that “it is almost a mathematical certainty that we are living in someone else’s computer simulation.” In Dr. Bostrom’s notion of reality, the human brain would exist only as a network of computer circuits.
This reminded me of the work that NYU’s Dr. Rodolfo Llinas has been focused on. He has developed bundles of nanowires thinner than spider webs that can be inserted into the blood vessels of human brains. With this technology it might be possible to stimulate the senses directly - creating visual perceptions, auditory perceptions, movements, and feelings. Deep brain stimulation could create the ultimate virtual reality where direct communication between man and machine or human brain to human brain could become a real possibility.
