12ozPROPHET ONLINE SHOP NOW OPEN FOR BUSINESS

This article was posted by Dirty Dozen Crew 1 Year, 6 months, 3 weeks, 3 hours, 26 minutes ago.

Since 1993 12ozProphet has been raising the bar for others to follow.  Beginning with the original magazine, we represented quality when it comes to graffiti related print media. It wasn’t just the photographs themselves that made 12ozProphet stand out. The attention to detail in the design, layout, and even the printing process of the original magazine put 12ozProphet in a league of its own, all while still focusing on the most important part, showcasing the real deal in graffiti.

Nearing the end of the 1990’s 12ozProphet continued to stay one step ahead by going digital. Our message board was the first of it’s kind. It wasn’t just a small local graffiti bulletin board, it was a global message board connecting graff writers from all places to showcase their art. The forum has continued to grow over the years and now has hundreds of visitors online from all over the globe at any given time, and tens of thousands of visitors check in on the daily to the forum and our blogs.

This brings us to 12ozProphet’s current phase of development, our online shop.
The same approach we took towards our past endeavors has been applied to the new store. In much the same way we focused on content first with the magazines and our forum, our first goal was offering the best products available for the new store. We are proud to announce the new online flagship store for both Montana Colors spray paint and Krink, both brands widely regarded as the best in their respective fields. Being the flagship store means we can offer very competitive prices on our product while having the widest variety of colors and products for each brand, ready to ship.

Our next task was the design and layout of the shop and how to provide easier user functionality to our customers. Anyone who visits our store will immediately notice our design and layout are leaps ahead. We worked for months refining the layout and functionality of the store to rise above our competition and meet our own standards. Every page you see in the shop has been custom built, from the first page, down to the shopping cart and checkout process. All product shots are taken in house with the most up to date professional photography equipment in the industry. We’ve made sure every detail was perfected and will continue to develop a whole new 12ozProphet online experience in the months to come.

Levis - Go Forth Ready to Work

This article was posted by Dirty Dozen Crew 1 Year, 7 months, 5 days, 18 hours, 50 minutes ago.

Levi’s keeps the results of their efforts authentic with their latest push, the Go Forth Ready to Work campaign. Developed to promote their new workwear line and driven by a pioneering spirit, Levi’s uses highly inspirational visuals highlighting a nostalgic side of America seldom seen these days. With the Go Forth Ready to Work campaign, Levi’s embarks on a compelling journey about the working class people of Braddock, PA and the decline of an American town.

Situated just outside of Pittsburgh, PA, Braddock has been shaken by severe financial misfortunes over the past few decades. It’s mayor, John Fetterman, has received national attention for going above and beyond the call of duty to save his beloved town with the help of artists, craftsmen, musicians and business owners.  As part of the Go Forth Ready to Work campaign, Levi’s will donate more than a million dollars over the next two years to help refurbish the Braddock community center and support the town’s urban farming program.

To bring the campaign together, Levi’s teamed up with Skunk-repped director John Hillcoat, well known for his films ‘The Road’ and ‘The Proposition’, to capture the reality behind the real working citizens of Braddock in a TV spot and short film series. Hillcoat gets deep with some touching monologues and moving musical tracks as he tells the story of what it means to be a pioneer in 2010. The latest installment,  a two-minute short entitled, ‘To Work’ features a series of beautify intimate glimpses of local residents getting ready to Go Forth.

The town’s residents also take on the roles of models, shot by Melodie Mcdaniel, as the campaign continues.

12ozProphet Presents… Speto and Nike Sportswear at 21 Mercer

This article was posted by Dirty Dozen Crew 1 Year, 7 months, 2 weeks, 4 days, 22 hours, 55 minutes ago.

FIFA fever is running wild in New York and it seems like every brand is out there trying to get in on the action. Everyday there’s another event popping off or a new collabo dropping to celebrate the World Cup.

Nike, however, seems to be going above and beyond the call of duty by flying in SPETO, one of São Paulo’s original graffiti pioneers, to paint an installation at their 21 Mercer spot. The AKANYC and 12ozProphet Crew were already down with SPETO through our Boys in Brasil OS GEMEOS, so when the opportunity arose to go see him do his thing right here in lower Manhattan… we grabbed the video camera and jumped in the gypsy cab.

Now, you gotta understand that while I am a practitioner and a proponent of traditional New York style graffiti writing, I don’t necessarily think that the whole world should be doing it. Quite the opposite, in fact, I think it is too often contrived and forced looking. “Mannerism” as my boy ARSON WKS would call it. It’s as if I were attempting to work in the style of the turn of the century Russian Avant-Garde, or imitating Aboriginal Australian Bark Painting; I have no direct connection to these movements which are specific to a time and place. So, I‘m always impressed when I see graffiti writers in other areas develop their own styles and tap into their own history for inspiration.

SPETO, like most of the world, caught the B-Boy Boogaloo Flu after watching films like Beat Street in the mid 80’s… but he didn’t stay stuck in 1985 for long. He embraced the traditional northeast Brazilian technique of rustic wood engraving known as Xilogravura, studying the craft and integrating its aesthetic into his already formidable style to come out with something totally original. He uses a sharp edged “cut-back” technique with spray paint that gives it the look of a block-print… the end result is pure Brasil; wide-eyed folksy fun that’s right at home on the roughest favela block.

For his piece at the 21 Mercer NSW boutique, SPETO worked in black and gold with touches of green, homage to his National Futebal heroes. Of course, the minute the match with N. Korea was scheduled to begin, all painting ceased and we ran around the block to the nearest bar to watch along with the throngs of cheering Brazilians rooting for the home-boys. I mean, art is wonderful and all, but one has to have their priorities straight…
