Brooklyn style

Looking for Lil Soul but found killer kenny instead.

I shot this picture this past saturday in lower Manhattan not far from ground zero.  It’s dated from 83 and obviously has nothing to do with the attacks on 9/11 but a little creepy just the same.

One of the last if not the last of 400 black silhouettes done by Richard Hambleton in 1982.

This is what drawing for 30 days straight looks like.

The R-40 trains, (aka - slants, bulldogs and star wars, - because the fronts look similar to Darth Vader) were officially retired in 2009.  Sad to see ‘em go.

We definitely had our fun.

Anyway back to business…

Like many people I spent the time between christmas and the new year starting fresh with an epic house cleaning. It was long overdue and time to sort through and throw out things that I have held onto for 10, 20, 30 years.  After being scarred for life by watching 5 minutes Hoarders I decided I too should redefine my crap.  That said collecting things and putting them into my collages is a big part of what I do so I can’t throw everything away.  Here are some things that I found while sorting. 

The 1975 Moon Landing Lego set.  Only 6 years after the real moon landing and a few years before they made little people figures.  Also those red rims on the moon buggie are killing it.  I can’t throw this out.

The NY public school system giving me props and support several years before I even started writing graffiti.

This is a page out of the NYCT “Vintage Bus Fleet catalog.  The bus on the top right is just another reason that 1973 was the funkiest year ever.

Still Champs.

This is the program guide for the 1979 Comic Art Convention at the Statler-Hilton Hotel.  I always dug the Bil Maher illustration on the cover and that’s why I think I have kept it so long.

Some 1986 action, peep the old Williamsburg bridge in the background.

The must have for all true metal heads, with or without the angel dust burn mark on the cassette.

Laugh if you will, but every time I hear “Last Night” it still reminds me of union square.

Would be great if these two bands toured and did the Steely Dan thing of playing certain albums from start to finish.  The world peace/ re-ignition tour has a ring to it.

A sad day in the graffiti world, we lost a true pioneer.

Rest in Peace Mike Martin aka IZ, IKE 327, CI…TMB Forever

Neto is a sculptor from Rio who totally transforms the space, which was interesting to view against the old dilapidated building, (yes there is a firing range in the basement.) Also peep the trophy rooms designed by Tiffany. The pendulant sacks as stated in the press release are filled with spices like clove, ginger, cumin and lavender just to name a few.  You can see how they are staining some of the cloth.  It is a great place to bring the kids, you are encouraged to touch, smell, sit and walk through it.  It’s worth the trip and all proceeds go back into renovating the Armory.

This is fresh…Not necessarily graffiti but still hand done.  I believe this is also from the same era as the Rough Riders, possibly even earlier…still digging. More on this mission in the future…Thanks S.K.
