Incredible footage of Shaolin Kung Fu filmed in Tawain where a lot of trained monks escaped from China to not be killed by the communist force.

This article was posted by Grotesk 6 months, 2 weeks, 6 days, 11 hours, 17 minutes ago.

If you are in Toronto tomorrow or anytime between the 23rd of July and August 30th 2011, please come and support 2 of my good friends at the Show and Tell Gallery. Greg Lamarche and James Marshal are 2 fantastic artists with super hero skills and thought process. They are definitely part of the few people that inspired me on a daily basis. The way they are in constant art elevation and evolution every year without ever going off track of what make them great at the first place. Congrats brothers!

Thursday Night Triple-Header: Bash Brothers, No Mas & Victory Journal

This article was posted by Grotesk 7 months, 2 weeks, 4 days, 11 hours, 36 minutes ago.

Please join us this Thursday night at Salon 94 Freemans for the opening of For The Kids, a retrospective of ‘80s sports posters created by the Costacos Brothers, who produced such all-time bedroom wall classics as “Chicago Vice” (Jim McMahon and Walter Payton),  “The Bash Brothers” (Canseco and McGwire), and “The Highlight Zone” (Dominique Wilkins).

In partnership with Salon 94 and show curator Adam Shopkorn, No Mas has selected five Costacos posters for digital transfer on white t-shirts. Each design was produced in an edition of 50 and will be available only at the gallery.

Thursday night will also mark the debut of Issue Two of our new publication Victory Journal, which features behind-the-scenes tales from the Costacos’ wildest photo shoots, a journey to the boxing capital of West Africa and a Bud Schmeling interview with Jimmy “Superfly” Snuka.

NY Bets - A Requiem for OTB

This article was posted by Grotesk 7 months, 4 weeks, 2 days, 20 minutes ago.

The running of the Belmont Stakes tomorrow will mark another sad chapter in the vanishing of Fun City landmarks: the first time the final leg of the Triple Crown is run in a New York denuded of its once ubiquitous Off-Track Betting parlors. OTB was one of our last gloriously seedy institutions, and while each neighborhood storefront from the Bowery in Chinatown to Graham Avenue in Williamsburg had it’s own ethnic flavor, they were connected by an unmistakable vibe. Rumpled men, cigarette smoke (first inside and then out front), discarded white tickets littering the floor, the rustling of racing forms, scratching of free pencils, and the particular odor of unlikely but immediate possibilility overpowering the certainty long term failure. With the notable exception of Derby day, when women in hats and casual sportsmen of all stripes invaded, the glamour suggested by some of OTB’s ads, which often featured well-dressed couples dining on steak and lobster, was illusory.

By far the most attractive fantasy advanced by OTB was a 70s campaign which featured stars like Frank Sinatra, Rodney Dangerfield and Carole Channing declaring their love for playing the ponies and wearing t-shirts and sweatshirts with a graphic that’s an indisputable classic. As the archane laws bankruptcy make it difficult to understand who actually owns this work of art, No Mas will donate a portion of proceeds from the sale of New York Bets to Gamblers Anonymous as a small gesture to those souls who may have been enticed by this clever campaign into a downward spiral of speculation. No Mas x Cosmos

This article was posted by Grotesk 8 months, 4 days, 3 hours, 54 minutes ago.

After an insane Spring full of new exciting project, I am trying to come back on the blog sphere. Outside of my agency, I became partner with No Mas and we are about to launch a lot of new products. To kick it off,we joined the rebirth of the iconic NY Cosmos by releasing a classic 1977 tee.

Once and future king of US soccer, the New York Cosmos remain the iconic American franchise 25 years after their last home game. Founded in 1972, the Cosmos legend was truly born on June 10, 1975, the day they announced the signing of Pelé, immediately turning soccer from a New York afterthought to front page news. Over the next ten years, the Cosmos would win four championships, turn studio 54 into an extension of their clubhouse, and inspire a generation of New Yorkers to play the beautiful game. Inspired by lettering from a vintage program, this shirt pays tribute to the teamʼs 1977 championship run—a moment indelibly inscribed on the sporting memory of the greatest city in the world.
