The 16th of September was the Mexican independence day. I was cruising with the family Midtown when we heard a wild crowd going nuts! It was the Mexican parading.
For a minute I felt I was in the middle of East LA. VIVA LA RAZA !!!

ARRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH !!!!!!!
My homeboy Christian from handselecta sent me this amazing post from his Handselecta Blog about the “Pirate Clip Art”. Here is his quote: “My nomination for clip art of the year award, easily goes to the Pirate Skull. Homey is putting in mad work lately. The Pirate Skull cuts across all boundaries. Hitting the Cool-Guy sect, Punk-rockers, the main-stream, jocks and kiddies alike. He has mad mass appeal. Period. Thats why my nomination for Clip-Art-Of-The-Year award is clearly for PIRATE SKULL.” ARRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH !!!!!!!

MR POWERS AND MR WRIGHT’S STUDIO VISIT IN CONEY ISLAND BROOKLYN
After a 45 minutes subway ride, we finally arrived in Coney Island for a great Sunday at the rusty beach. Walking on Surf Avenue with family and friends to digest our heavy Nathan’s dogs, we bumped into Mr Espo who was leaving his signs shop. He kindly invited us inside and gave us a tour of his amazing shop. The atmosphere was really special. It felt like it has been there for years, totally blending with the “hard to describe” atmosphere of Coney Island. The bric-å-brac of artworks, enamel painted vintage signs, letter specimens directly brushed on the walls and Steve’s passionate speech about how old dude used to paint signs made this visit an extraordinary experience. Sharing his studio with Espo, Matt Wright learned to freehand letters at a real Brooklyn sign shop. He developed amazing lettering skills that he mixes with funny and sarcastic punch lines. Enjoy!

It’s hard to bring your kid to school and see such an ugly Polo hook up at 8 am in the morning…
It only took me one minute in photoshop to make it even uglier…

I just wanted to big up one of my best friend Justin Kay. He is one amazing designer when it comes to type headers and layouts. I have seen him stepping up every month since he arrived in New York couple of years ago.
His work has this beautiful nostalgia of 60’s graphic design with a nice contemporary twist to it. Go check his website for more industrial-organic.net
Justin is also the co-publisher / curator of the great zine 119
Hard to believe he loves Black Metal when you see his work…
