Brooklyn, New York

I remember this scene like it was only a few days ago… Things didn’t changed too much over there for the freedom of speech… For instance you won’t find that bellow youtube movie if you google “Tienanmen” in China. All you’ll get is nice & clean pictures of the place. For many, the Tienanmen square will always be the symbol of the 1989 chinese democratic uprising that ended up in a blood bath.

What does it take to stop a tank? Courage! Is tank man still alive? No one has seen him since the video. Will we ever know what really happened? How many were killed by the military? Do you know that the best estimates are over 300,000 Chinese troops were brought into Tiananmen to combat their own people? Well over how many the U.S. brought into the whole country of Iraq. Why is China tripling their military budget each year? Why did they attack one of our ships earlier this year? I guess I’m just glad they released the people they kidnapped when they knocked one of the U.S. military jets out of the sky eight years ago. Their military is too agressive towards us to be an ally. They have over 1,100 missiles pointed towards Taiwan as we speak. I hope they don’t fire them.

I believe they ran over the tank man with the tank - they never showed it because it was far too graphic for TV.  As far Chinese defence spending is concerned, it has been consistently around 8% of GDP for the last ten years, which is still less (officially) than US defence spending by around half to three times.  Furthermore, China’s apparent aggression is a part of an official strategy of deterrence - they do this because they realise that they cannot fight the US head on.  This is their current approach to Taiwan also.

This is pretty interesting if you are interested in China or International Relations/Politics in general.
