Brooklyn, New York

I scored last week this nice auction catalogue for $5 in Brooklyn. This graffiti based auction happened at the Guernsey’s gallery in June 2000. I wish I was there… Good luck to find a Kaws or Espo at $3000-$4500 nowadays.

I was there, I watched Swatch diss those two Espo pieces in the viewing gallery, which was quickly removed. During the auction I was sitting next to Sace. He was bidding $20,000 on zypher/revolt tags on linoluem and vintage cans.

All 3 KAWS went for $1000 each, the ESPO’s #325 went for $425, #326 for $750, #327 for $600. All prices do not include the 17.5% buyers premium, so add 17.5% for total realized prices. Many items didn’t sell and some artists were hoping their items didn’t sell when it became apparent that the prices were very low.
A dozen old krylons went for $225, and the door #281A went for $22,000 plus premium. Every thing else seemed to go for under market value.

I see I made a typo, it’s hard to tell in the small box for comments. The dozen old krylons went for $2100, plus premium. More than some great works of art.
