My friend Laurence (culture marketing manager at Red Bull France) invited me last night to the Red Bull BC one B-Boy battle at Hammerstein ballroom. She hooked me up and homey Gorey with dope spot where we had a great view on the battles.The night was sick! Boogie down finest blast master KRS ONE was hosting the event and in between battles, Talib Kweli and Hi-Teck as well as the world famous Rock Steady Crew killed it.. It’s the first Hip Hop event in years where I felt I was watching HD TV. Huge bass and perfect sound, fantastic light show and perfect timing. The crowd (including, Ninth Wonder, Fab Five Freddy, Zulu Gremlins,Ricky Powell, Martha Cooper,etc…) was super hype the all night. The battle level was just beyond real and the true Hip Hop culture was at its best. I wish I could post the movies I shot but I leave it to you to go to the Red Bull BC NY battle 2009 to appreciate. Congratulation to Lilu for crushing the competition.

WORLD CHAMPION!!!!!!!

The junior swiss soccer team became today world champion. It’s the first time in the soccer history of my country that we won such a title. The under 17 year old selection beat Nigeria 1-0 in final in Abuja,Nigeria in front of 64’000 African fans! The earned their title after beating teams such as Brazil,Colombia and Italy to reach the final. The beauty about this victory is that most of the player have immigrant parents (Ex-Yugoslavia, Tunisia, Turkey,etc…) Switzerland needed this kind of “patriotic” victory to show all the dumbed ass racist recently elected over there that they are so wrong. Big Up Kids!!!!

Dam Dash created an interesting new project/collective named Black Roc. The project will come out as an LP mixing beat composed by the rock band The black Keys and a who’s who of mc’s including Mos Def, Raekwon, MOP,etc…

BERLIN WALL DESTRUCTION’S ANNIVERSARY

Today marks the 20th anniversary of the fall of the infamous Berlin Wall. I remember in 89 watching the news with my parents full of tears of joy.This wall haunted my youth. I was fascinated by the art all over it and scared about the photo and stories of the many people who died trying to go over it to escape communism. My business partner Eric allowed me to scan few pages of this incredible book he owns about the Wall of Berlin art. The cover actually contents a small capsule with a real piece of the actual wall.

No Mas + Ali Rumble in the Jungle 35th Anniversary Project

My good friend Chris Isenberg who is one of the person responsible for my obsession with sport graphic and sport in general released today an amazing project. Today is the 35th of Ali rumble in the jungle. To celebrate the event, Muhammad Ali Enterprises LLC (MAE) has commissioned NO MAS to create “Rumblevison”, a series of three original animated short films. To explore the legendary fight between Muhammad Ali and George Foreman and the iconic scene in Zaire, Chris tapped three fine artists with distinct styles: watercolorist David Rathman, oil painter Jerome Lagarrigue and pen and ink man James Blagden. In conjunction with a viral release, No Mas will also retail the original artwork, editioned prints and t-shirts based on key frames, along with its current collection of licensed reproductions of t-shirts worn by Muhammad Ali during his storied career. THE FIRST 10

Ten years ago exactly today I landed at JFK airport as a twenty something rookie graphic designer. I was supposed to be there for 3 month which quickly turned to 6,12 and on and on. Here we are! Ten years after my first walk on the Brooklyn bridge blasting Gang star Mass Appeal in my portable CD player. Yep! Technology has changed since… I just want to give mad props to all the New York people who gave me all the inspiration and energy needed to be where I am at today. Thanks to my wife and kids, the Alife crew (you were the first ever!), Elf (R.I.P), KR, Snoty, Staple, Base Crew, Marc, Marci, Raven, Randy Moore, Chris Isenberg, Raza Uno, Funder, PK, Justin, Steve, Tester, Dust, Left, Mare, Keo, Reas, Kaws, Espo, Skuf, Zuek, Zoo Crew, 5boro crew, Waris, Spike Lee, Eric Elms and to all the other friend I forgot… I love New York more than ever!

MASSIVE ATTACK

I was listening to the BBC when Massive Attack was talking about their up coming album “Splitting the Atom”. The album is due next year. From what I found leaked on the web, this album is going to be another classic. Guest includes TV on the radio’s Tunde Adebimpe, Damon Albarn from Blur/Gorillaz, Martina Topley-Bird, Liz Fraser and long time collaborator Horace Andy. Massive attack is in my top 5 group ever. They have a unique sounds since day one and always took care of their visuals and video in an impeccable way. The new art is done by massive attack’s singer producer 3D Del Naja who was one of the only UK artist featured in the classic “Spray Can Art” book.
Can’t wait to do a late night in the studio with this album blasting.

My parents were pretty broke as we grow up but they always found ways to put nice outfits together for us. My mom was mixing hand knitted sweater (she made them all), found army green jacket or whool peacoat jacket and denim worn already by my cousin’s other cousin or my older brother. Big up to my dad for shooting such nice flicks.

I AM RETIRERING

For 4 years I had the privilege to do the creative direction at Zoo. This journey brought me to meet some of the most talented people in the fashion and skateboard industry. My team was always working around the clock to meet deadlines and was always killing it creatively.Big Up to San Juanito, AdamG, Handselecta,connect, ScottyB, Mandré, Nar, Tester, Phallen, Rob, DanZ, Seamus,Ben, Jess, Lim, Ryu and Woods dog! In this time frame I also had the chance to work with some great people that brought me so much energy and inspiration; Stay High, Spike Lee, Matt Weber, Sp One, Skuf, Boogie, Zueke, Ghostface, Gorey, Forrest Whitaker to name a few. Today I am retiring my Zoo York Jersey. The number of personal projects growing, the need for Also Know As to grow, the new studio that I will open in Brooklyn with my partner next month made me take this hard decision. I am gonna miss my current work environment (see bellow) but I am definitely going to enjoy the freedom of being independent. More info and news on my website soon as well as on 12oz. I am out! DR. PLAYGROUND

I bumped into this truck with my family this morning in front of Tompkins park. In 5 years spent in many many playgrounds of New York with my kid, I have never seen one of these and will probably never see another one. In a way it looked more like a props for a movie… The reason for the Dr Playground truck in front of the gates? The official opening of a brand spanking new playground. The set design was impressive: Politicians, park commissioner, Tiki Barber, well behaved summer camp kids, free drinks and cookies, toy trucks and a detective in plain cloth that told my 21 month son he has to move from the send box while they were filming the opening. Another New York minute.

If you have kids, go check this new playground… Super 2010 NY illmatic!
